Regardless of the size of this wonderful player. There are two immediate things that come to mind: 1. The understanding of the rotation of the ball, and 2. The feeling between the way he struck the ball with his paddle.
We are talking about Ye Minghui. I should use the word "sturdy guy" but not "fat guy" to refer to him. Because in Vietnamese, or in Chinese, calling a guy is fat is funny, but not offensive. Sorry for that.

I am very touched by how actively you are trying to understand how our languages work!
Although english, spanisch, italian, swedisch and german e. a. are diffrent being called fat seems to be offensive all along.
Thank for your corecction and understanding.
The video as always is asbsolutely fascinating and inspiring!

Table tennis has proven to me that I can do anything if I put my mind to it. It also taught me there is always an answer to everything.

Losing weight tremendously helped my game - my endurance got better, my knees didn't get sore (because there was less load on them), lower back pain was greatly reduced, etc. Putting a bunch of it back on during the pandemic hurt my game (beyond the degradation in skills that came from not playing during lockdown). I'm in the process of taking it back off, and gosh I wish I'd been more disciplined!
It's true that there are some fat dudes who can play at a high level because they have strengths that aren't degraded by the extra weight they're carrying (great serve, great touch, great ability to read spin, great ability to predict the opponent's behavior, etc) and/or they have adapted their style to be less affected by their physical limitations, often by adopting a close-to-the-table blocking game. But being fitter is better, ceteris paribus.

That is how it's done properly nowadays, no body shaming no insults. Very good presentation and most importantly, you made it clear that there are differences in the meaning of the usage of the word fat in different languages used in your videos. It's a very good TT channel and I am looking forward to seeing more videos like this in the future. All the best for 2022.

Can affect the Knees. It's okay to call someone fat. Sturdy means strong and well planted if I understand correctly. I can balance myself much better after losing weight. I had trouble with movement and coordination when I was fat.

Fat (overweight) is not a problem in tabletennis if you are clever, intelligent and quite young. Then, getting older, fat could become a problem for knees, back and hips. Tabletennis is one of the few sports that you can practise with fun till old age, indipendently your weight, provided you check your health status every year.

I'm middle aged, very fat, but still play well (I win most games, even against national players). I'm planning to lose a lot of weight though, as I know it will improve my game.

As a 300 lb + plus guy who plays , I can honestly say it certainly doesn't help!I. In a game that worships at the altar of speed, hand speed, reflex spee, even foot speed. Hauling around extra weight is certainly a negative. I am a shallow chopped at this point. Lugging all the weight around gets to be a chore, but there are few who can really exploit this a disadvantage. The extra weight does not make me a badplayer, or poor athlete , it makes me a fat guy in a game all about speed. I had a young player ask me wouldn't I be better if I lost the weight ( very repectfully) . I told him sure but if it was easy, then I would have done it a long time ago. It's not just putting down a fork for many of us.

If you know how to shift your fat around to add to the weight transfer, you get a ton of power on your shots. But it does slow your footwork

Overweight can still play good TT games, but it does prevent players from competing in the very high level of pro tournaments. Having too much fat not muscle in the body will be even worse 🤣

Being fat in table tennis is not a problem, but surely an overweight player would be even better if he/she was in better shape. Speed and agility in table tennis go a long way.

Definitely being fat is a great impediment to doing any sport, especially one as fast as table tennis. Whoever says otherwise doesn't understand anything. A sport with fast and explosive movements doesn't forgive the accumulation of excess fat. In fact, in the video it's clearly seen how the fat man cannot reach the balls when his opponent moves him from one side (of the table) to the other. End of discussion.
