Provincial high level players have very good form usually and are VERY consistent, they’ll have a 40 ball hit rally with you any day. BUT… the only thing preventing them from making China team C-B-A is mobility. They do not train mobility properly and most move awkwardly, so they play more static. So once players like Liang Jingkun, Lin Gaoyuan, MA Long or Fan Zhendong start moving provincial players around the table, they lose efficiency and lose most rallies. That is the reason why people like Zhou Qihao will probably never make Big Four, he is a very top level provincial player, team C-B material but not for team A in the Olympics. He can’t aspire to be Big Four because he has bad mobility. That is the reason this match looks very leveled, and the provincial player looks like he’s sending everything back consistently and perfectly. But if you notice, Wang Hao doesn’t move too much anymore and he also doesn’t move the provincial player around the whole table quickly and when he does, it’s a sure point because this provincial player favors the forehand even from the backhand, whereas the Big Four would attack from both wings easily, this guy pivots too much. If Wang Hao retained his previous younger years mobility this match would’ve been done very quickly and the score would’ve been very differently. This goes to show you, that if you do not have good mobility in Table Tennis, any provincial player would mop the floor with you any day of the year, that’s how high Chinese Table Tennis level is.

Yes - the weight loss and looking younger is almost certainly due them adopting and eating very clean food and staying active. By clean food I mean a lot of fresh raw and cooked plant based food as opposed to animal products. Plant based diet keeps one young and fit, animal products accelerate aging.

wang hao is in his 40s now and he could easily come to my country and with the national championship with ease, the best ranked worlwife from my country is like 100 or something, thats how good this guy was and still is, he may not have the mobility of 12+ years ago but hes still very consistent with his technique and placement, the best RPB we will probably ever see, unmatched, he could hold a consistent rally of backhand with any shakehand player, his backhand was godlike, xu xin also developed a really consistent RPB but nowhere near his level, nice to see him play and have fun,
Just search on it coming from the horses mouth. He gives an explanation on how to execute, not much to it, just practice practice to execute it. Wang makes it seem so natural. I joined a table tennis club and a 60 percent are penholder but only 2 RPB users the rest are old school using the same side for forehand and when a backhand positioned paddle (opposite side) should be used. I find it more natural to RPB than the traditional style but I'm new and started that way. Some did the traditional way and won't change. If Ma Lin and Xu Xin made that transition it must be worth something.

With all the money ,programs and population of players to pick from its not surprising a provincial player is as good as Wang Hao. This provincial player could easily be in the national team and be selected if playing well. There is not much skill difference between a national team player and a peasant from the countryside ( provincial player) just a 1_2% consistency difference and that's the small slight edge you need to be in the national Chinese team
1 or 2 percent consistency difference is huge in table tennis. Plus this is china. This is a very good provincial player but you would have to assume that several areas of china has a player with the same skill as him plus more. Not to mention his age is a factor. If youre skilled but already too old(25 above) i assume the country would invest their training more in a younger similar skilled player. It will be very hard to be in the national team. That 1 percent consistency can cause him one tournament... and then that could be it.
