In this video excerpt from an online Rosary led by Bishop Joseph Strickland, Fr. James Altman provided his reflections on the necessity of Our Blessed Mother as our intercessor in these challenging times, as well as some thoughts on Pope Francis' recent remarks.
How beautiful are those words from the Gospel of John 19:26-27: "When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom He loved, He said to His mother, 'Woman, behold, your son.' Then He said to the disciple, 'Behold, your mother.' And from that hour the disciple took her into his home."
We have to keep in mind the context in which Jesus is saying this. He is on the Cross, asphyxiating - literally drowning in His own blood. In order to speak He has to push Himself up (pulling against the nail in His feet, scraping His scourged back against the rough wood) in order to draw air into His lungs to speak. He utters 7 words from the Cross (and given the excruciating pain, all of those words had to especially count), and in the Gospel of John, bestowing His Mother Mary upon John (and by extension, all of us) is His last gift before He offers up His spirit.
When we are hurting and in pain, how often do we turn to people we love (our parents, our friends, our priests or pastors, etc.) to ask them to pray for us. Doesn't it make sense that in our sorrow and in these dark times we would turn to the Most Holy Mother of Our Lord Jesus, the woman who was closest to His Sacred Heart, and ask her to also pray to God on our behalf? What a wonderful mother that Our Lord Jesus has given to us. Let us not be afraid of seeking her aid. As St. Maximilian Kolbe once said, "Never be afraid of loving Mary too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did."

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! I'm a cradle Catholic but because of the protestant influence in our world, I have always felt a bit guilty if I loved Mary too much so I didn't let myself. I was afraid of "worshipping Mary". But the last line in your response where you quote St. Maximillan Kolbe saying "never to be afraid of loving Mary too much because we can never love her as much as Jesus did" is music to my heart! I've never heard it explained that way before. I always felt as if I was worshipping Mary if I loved her too much or called upon her too much so I didn't. But you have set my heart free! Now I can love Mary and be devoted to her without having any doubt that that is what her Son wants me to do! God BLESS YOU Sangreal!!

God bless you, Fr. Altman! Your words are spirit and truth! Yes, the last couple of days have been unbelievable, but not surprising. I agree with you that we have all the saints and martyrs, and our Blessed Mother! Without our Blessed Mother we wouldn't have Jesus! We had 40 hours Devotion at our parish the last couple of days-perfect timing, given the past days' events. The storms are indeed coming to us; our Faith will be tested. Jesus IS the Way, the Truth, & the Life. So no matter how crazy the world gets, (& it's getting real crazy). Bringing all this to prayer, a wave of peace and grace swept over me, which made me feel good. As I left the church late this morning, my Pastor, Fr. Mike, asked me when shall we do the next 40 hours? I suggested when we have the next Rogation Day, during Advent! Fr. Mike liked that idea!

Lk 1:41. St. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit that's how she recognized Jesus in Blessed Mother's womb. Just like all of us who make positive comments on truth that Fr. The pope has made statements that I know promote unholiness and encourage rebellion against our God. What do I do Mother?”
I believe She would say, referring to Her Divine Son, “ do whatever He tells you.”
Mother has told us what to do. Pray my children and offer many sacrifices, that souls may not lost. Prayer unceasingly for my beloved Priest and the church. Consecrated yourself to our Mother and walk with her. She will help us, if we ask in prayer. She wishes to present us to Christ. Let us pray!

I never call on the name of mother Mary in my prayer, Jesus answer my prayer..when i read my bible, i never found the first Christian ask mother Mary to pray for them..

We don’t pray to Mary, we ask for her help and intercession. The words we use were used in the Bible, the Angel’s exhortation.
What beautiful words of Scripture..."my soul magnifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, the Almighty has done great things for me & holy is His name" beautiful!! Full of love of God!! She calls on the name of God....we should imitate her love!! we should always call on her.... because holy is His name!!

Read your Bible! There is only one God to whom we can come if we received Jesus Christ as our personal Savior. Mary knew that that’s why she called Jesus my Lord and my Savior. If Mary was without sin why Jesus has to die ? She could’ve died for your sins. If your works can get you to Heaven there would be no need for Jesus to die for you. All the glory , prayers.worship are to God alone!
Read the Bible! Study ! Get to know the God you believe in. See his plan and what is He expect from you. Stop listening to others but go to the source.

Mary is just a human being. And she is dead now. Why are Catholics praying to a dead person? Is that not allowed?
