  • Departed from Augsburg (EDMA), crossing the German and Austrian Alps at 16.000 ft and finally overflying the Slovenian Alps, descending to the ILB VOR and heading West following the Standard Terminal Arrival Route to Portoroz. In order to enjoy the great scenery of Piran and the coastline, we were cleared for the instrument approach RWY 15 followed by a circle to land procedure on RWY 33.

      You heard the GEAR WARNING after the power was reduced to idle in order to get rid of 2000 ft pretty quickly after we were cleared for an extra turn over the scenic town of Piran - following an indicated routing after passing the airport ahead of us.

    How fast were you going during the landing. It seemed like you were going 100ktas

    • @wolfgangkarner
      @wolfgangkarner  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You could easily watch it (4K) on the screen - preferable not a mobile phone! The turn to the final was flown at about 90 kts and flaring began at around 80 kts. It is very easy to get rid of the speed in a DA62 as soon as you reduce to idle due to the big props ...

    Does the passager need oxygen also at 16000?

    • @wolfgangkarner
      @wolfgangkarner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes of course! 16.000 feet is equivalent to almost 5.000 Meters. At this level the atmosphere provides only 50% of air pressure and oxygen compared to sea level. In order to mentain a healthy oxygen saturation status in your body you need to add extra oxygen supply either by a pressurized cabin or oxygen masks / canullas. Our body could survive easily at this altitude if our blod system had a higher level of red blood cells - but it takes a few days for our organism to adjust to the lower oxygen levels by a higher level of red blood cells ...

    what is this thing under the pilot's nose and why did he measure his heart rate (I think?)

    • @wolfgangkarner
      @wolfgangkarner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because the DA62 doesn't have a pressurized cabin, Markus is wearing an "oxygen cannula" as our flight altitude is above 11.000 ft. This little inflated device is a pretty comfortable way to wear small plastic tubes which provide pure oxygen into your nose. On his left index finger you can see an "oximeter" which measures your oxygen saturation permanently. In case of an undersupply of oxygen you might not realise this dangerous situation.

      @@wolfgangkarner oh ok, thank you for answering. is there any pratical reason to fly that high in a plane like this?

    • @wolfgangkarner
      @wolfgangkarner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@segaquartet Oh yes! It is almost the same reason why airliners are flying high. The air density decreases with the altitude. As you have less drag on the aircraft you can fly faster und use less fuel which allowas you to go further with the same amount of fuel / weight. In this video we were crossing the Alps from North to South and we flew over the highest peaks of Austria (12.000 ft). It really makes sense to have a few thousand feet between you and the mountains. And last but not least: In case of an emergency (engine failure, ...) you have more time to descend safely in order to reach an airport for landing .... ;-)

    Oxigênio para 2 pax dura quantas horas?

    • @wolfgangkarner
      @wolfgangkarner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It depends on the altidudes you are flying. But we needed oxygen for more than an hour during this flight and we used maybe 400 psi. There are 3000 psi on board - If you calculate 200 psi per person and hour so two people on board couldn't use all the oxygen before fuel ends.

    Why have you sold the plane?

    • @WolfKarner
      @WolfKarner 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The DA62 was replaced by a Piper Meridian with a turbine and pressurized cabin, because we are travelling a lot with two very little kiddies. It is not possible to make the girls wearing these oxygen cannulas during flights in high altitudes. With the Meridian we fly comfortablely at 30.000 feet on much higher speeds ... it really made sense but it is of course much more expensive :(

    Bei einem solchen nach IFR durchgeführten Flug würden die navigatorischen Themen bedeutend mehr interessieren als die unruhige Kameraführung ohne interessante Details wie diffuse Fernblicke etc.Dass die beiden Triebwerke drehen, kann man auch auf andere Weise feststellen. Schade, dass die Chance einer möglichst exakten Prokollierung des Fluges verpasst wurde.

      Selbstverständlich könnte ich im Cockpit eine starre GoPro montieren und nur die Sicht auf die Instrumente abbilden. Ich mache aber keine Lehrvideos. Mein Fokus liegt aber auf dem fliegerischen Gesamteindruck, sowohl auf der "situational awareness", die sich aus der Instrumenten-Übersicht - plus der Außenperspektive ergibt. Jeder Pilot wird nicht nur den Blick auf die Avionik im Auge haben sondern auch die Lage des Flugzeuges, das Wetter, die Landschaft, den Traffic rundherum ... Klar gelingt es nicht, immer den Autofokus perfekt auf die Landschaft zu richten oder die Kamera schön ruhig zu halten - wir fliegen ja auch häufig in turbulenter Luft. Es sei erlaubt darauf zu verweisen, dass sehr viele Viewer - darunter viele Piloten, meine Videos gut finden und Enthusiasten einen authentischen Eindruck vom Fliegen bekommen - ohne perfekte Footage zu erwarten. Jeder nach seiner Façon.
