    Good old school repair job on old trucks you can do this, long may they keep running. Modern high tech trucks are an electronic nightmare doubt they will last as long as this old Bedford. Nice truck to drive too.

      Thanks for the comment, yeah she’s a pretty basic truck , and most of the parts are well designed , working on a new video soon

    I love when simple things like bolts cost you time or just reck important stuff. I once had a bolt jump off a table, dive into a tractor transmission, stop in sight but out of finger reach, and finally fall to the bottom of the transmission case. I had to split the tractor and partially strip the transmission to get it.
    I find taking a deep breath really helps. More breath allows for more bad words, and that is what really helps

      Haha oh that sounds crazy ! Or bad design ? Like why do tractors need to be split in half ?! Like this truck of mine , any work on the front of the motors requires three drunk swearing midgets ! To abseil the block! Haha yea my editing takes all the choice language.

    Old Bedford doesn't look too bad to work on even though the cab doesn't tilt.

    • @jimifix
      @jimifix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s fairly roomy underneath , and with the inspection cover in the cab it’s great , but the alternator and water pump are in a super tight spot

    Maybe MartyT watches your channel and reaches out to you with some of his bloodhound capacities for finding "stuff"? Pretty sure parts for older equipment in NZ is hard to come by without having some connections to sources. Looks like you've got things covered fairly well though, all things considered. Good luck with the build, should be a nice useful truck once you're done with it.

    Great video study of the Bedford engine restore. Any ideas why that bolt failed as it did.

    • @jimifix
      @jimifix  ปีที่แล้ว

      Matui69 may have some ideas … personally I feel someone may have over torqued it. Or it’s failed due to the gasket leaking right at the bolt miraculously turning it with each comprsssion stroke ?! Haha hmmm but the threads were stripped so … the damage to the rocker assembly is incredible !

    Was the replacement head bolt a high tensile one?
    If not it could be replaced with an appropriate size capscrew as they are a much higher tensile strengh than a standard hex-headed bolt.
    You should be able to source another rocker shaft assembly ok. Ive only got a 4 cylinder version left or Id happily give you a shaft assembly.
    Injector will probably need another nozzle and a cap nut altho if undamaged and the needle is free in the nozzle it could live again. Use Anti-seize on the part of the body that slides into the head, either Copper or Nickle anti-seize ( Nickel taking the higher temp rating).
    Injector hold down bolts dont have to be heaved down ultra tight either. Pull down evenly and imagine the ratchet or bar you use is only around 4 inches long. Thats all the torque you need or you can distort the injectir body, more so with a longer body like the Bedford has.

    • @jimifix
      @jimifix  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes its a high tensile bolt, I was a little shocked at the damage to the rocker assembly by that bolt and of course the tear on the gasket was at that bolt also. I used the copper spray on gasket so thanks for that tip. Yes I’ll be super gentle snugging the injectors down.

    • @matui6983
      @matui6983 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good its a high tensile one.
      Ive seen damage like that a few times before the combustion gas going thru the blow in the gasket helps pounds the broken/loose bolt up n down like a jackhammer. Its a not uncomon issue in Bedfords and the D-series Ford engines too.
      Should be a different animal when shes up n going again.

      Good solid engine.
      Biggest thing I see with Bedfords nowadays are injectors dying from plain old age or NZ's rubbish diesel and injector pump leaks caused by the same 2 x reasons.

      @@matui6983 true , and hey they’re getting old also , this one’s the same age as me ! Haha I maybe falling apart also.
      Hey question… I noticed online the Manual for this truck , states you adjust the rockers at idle speed ?… is that with it running ? I struggled with putting the alternator back on too lack of room up the front .. I’d struggle to find tdc if I had to look for marks …

  • @alanphillips556

    Someone must have reved the nuts out of that engine. Just no need for it.
