Nice work lad! Was good to see the proper use of the dining table 😅
Looking forward to seeing you get that boat back on the trailer as easy as you got it off 👌
Haha well actually just uploading part 2 and it wasn’t easy by myself ended up putting truck in neutral and winding boat on with trailer winch as the truck and trailer rolled slowly backward … very tense moment.
Diesel Bob has gone AWOL
Haha he sure has! He’s still around in hiding … plan to start on him again soon. I have a loose plan Haha. Thanks for the support.
bedford i think not a bidford pretty sure
Nice old truck I'm itching to buy one. The 'chuff chuff' engine noise sounds like an inlet valve not seating. But since this video is 2yrs old I guess you already know exactly what was wrong with the beast! I subbed, you're so close to the 1k milestone. (just watched next video in this series, my guess was miles off, I'll be quiet now haha)
Hi there, thanks for subscribing. Yes! A cool old truck had a blown head gasket and broken rocker caused by a snapped head bolt . All fixed up and sold 😢, small amount of sellers regret but looking for a 4wd model next . So close to 1k!!! . Cheers 🍻
@@jimifix Yeah there's an old Thames Trader truck for sale near where I live, I'd like to fix it up but it's the cost & lack of spares that's putting me off.
May have got water in the transmission
I remember some of those Bedford truck 24v used to run 4 x 6 volt ⚡ batteries 🔋 but were probably models from the 60's. Thanks for your introduction to your truck. PS - hope the drivers door finds its way home from your wifes kitchen 😂❤
If it’s to much mate move it on it’s not worth the anxiety you will end up rushing it and you won’t be happy with it I’ve been down this road many times have a great Christmas brother hope to see more videos in the new year
Cheers bro , I hear ya , have a good one.
Merry Christmas to you too. totally understand about projects being overwhelming. I made the decision recently to sell my long term project car. l love these old trucks, it sounds great! greetings from Melbourne Australia.
Thankyou
Luverly Juberly James, The old TK Bedford In many variations was once favoured to be changed Into Recovery / race car transport vehicles In years gone by. Then the use of lorries with HIAB type cranes seemed to have taken over, but purists still loved the old Bedford lorries. That diesel motor just wanted to start bless It. Nice job, thank you for the video- Ian UK.
Like a Swiss watch lad! Well done
Somewhere between practicality and madness you will find vehicle restoration. That motor sounded great after being worked on and sitting for a spell. It is a very cool truck, but it is a lot of time and effort to bring her back. Having a use, no matter how small, does help with the sting in your wallet. Whatever you choose, I am sure it will be cool. Cheers mate and a merry christmas to you.
Haha ahhh I can relate ! Thanks
Hi ya fella. Good to see ya ip and about. Sorry I didn't get that video of paints Trump ks fine, the place has been pretty much cut of either floods recently. Haven't forgotten though. The Bedford founds hood and healthy. You seem happy with it. Merry Christmas to you and ya friends and family. All the best mate. 😊
Thanks buddy sorry to hear of the floods
Have a good Xmas pal, see you in 2024 👊
One of the simplest most reliable vehicles ever made and yes that’s the heater in the middle of the cab. Looked after the variant you have there which in the UK at the time was 16 tonne gross and the earlier models. Good luck yo will have a lot of fun with her I am sure
That's a great project 👍 I have subscribed I worked with them in the eighties delivering cement blocks, great times, thank you.
Hi James Thankyou !
Possui uma patrol MD6 , o mesmo motor , conheço ele na palma da mão . Patrol Trojan , creio que é a única existente na face da terra , existe até hoje , porem com motor 1313 de mercedes .
Well you can hear the head gaskit leaking clearly
Sure can buddy ! As you’ll see on the next video I think , is a massive section missing from the gasket and a jumping bolt that caused havoc on the rocker assembly. Cheers for watching and subscribe please if you haven’t already 😊
Hi james new subscriber happy to see old trucks get a new life keep up the good work james please repley mark.
Hi mark Thanks for the comment glad you enjoy the videos Jimi

Cool truck iv got some new bedford mudflaps on trademe in dunedin if your interested in the final bling bits
Hi Dave thanks for watching, ah sounds tempting haha I’ll check them out. I have horded conveyor belt somewhere that probably will end up on it lol.
I'm really enjoying the whole process of tidying up this beautiful truck! It's a true marvel of engineering with how these where built back in the day. Nice an simple an not overly complicated. Beautiful work with the filming to james! It's a real joy to watch ❤
Thankyou sir , very cool simple old beast and looking forward to it being usable .
20 years ago I changed the head gasket on one of these but it was a coach built horse box so only had access through the small bonnet flaps .It was a 2 day mission and I look back and think what a great truck the bedford was compared to modern stuff.
Your so right! Nice and basic , most things you cast your eyes over makes sense.
Thank you, James, for sharing this absolutely beautiful old truck. I definitely have a soft spot for these bedfords. It would be an absolute joy to see the work that goes into fixing this beast up!
Hey there no problem 😌 she’s a beautiful old thing and I look forward also to seeing it work again. thanks for watching and if you can subscribe please.
Never drove anything but Bedford tk's during my 17 years as a house delivery coalman,78\95, when gas eventually killed the trade, perfect height of platform, for hand loading and carrying off, back in the day when every house in country had coal fires,3 and a half ton bedfords loaded with 120+bags, or over 6 ton , overweight by a ton and a half easy, and if by any chance we were ambushed by the WEIGHTS AND MEASURES MEN, because of how fast the coal was going off the lorry we were usually legal, or underweight haha, brilliant lorries, where even a broken accelerator spring could be fixed with a thick elastic band , that the postmen used to drop all over the streets, it would get you back to the yard, and the side flaps, brilliant if you needed a pee, lift the flap and lean in pretending You're looking at the engine haha, just brilliant, hard working and dependable lorries, I also did the signwriting on the lorries,
Wow that’s some cool history ! Thanks for sharing , and Thankyou for commenting on here.
@@jimifix cheers mate, I remember once I was stuck with no brakes, couldn't stop,so my gaffer came in another Bedford,an ex furniture removals lorry with the body cut down to the platform, quite a long lorry, and good for an extra 30 bags because of the length of it, so my gaffer jumped in my lorry with no brakes and towed me in the lorry with the brakes so I could do the breaking, and while we were on a long curving road leading to the coal yard, the chain towing my lorry starting moving with the bend on the road and broke loose the spare wheel under the back of the lorry came off, but whether it got caught on the tow chain, or wedged on something under the lorry for a split second, because it didn't roll, it just shot out under pressure, bounced once, and went over my cab and bounced off my platform and onto the road, luckily the road wasn't busy , but a foot and half lower and it was through the windscreen and into me, haha, brilliant memories, my gaffer had six lorries running, all of them bedfords, brilliant , and the box heater, the front and two side flaps open to thaw the hands out, in the cold snowy and frosty winters we seemed to get years ago, just brilliant hard working, and dependable lorries, keep up the good work mate.
Fair play fella. I hate hydraulic oil. Leathal stuff. Got covered in it a voiple years ago ate into me scalp. Had all me hair shaved off. Seen some dreadfull accidents with equipment failing. Be careful. 😊
Someone must have reved the nuts out of that engine. Just no need for it.
Nice job on the overhaul dude. Big thumbs up from me 👍
Smiths. Very good,my friend.
I have driven this truck it was owned by our neighbours in Southland 500 cubic in engine, good to see it again 6:51

try sticking the microphone into some sponge to reduce the wind noise. Enjoying the renovations
Haha thanks for the tip … but I just use my iPhone to make videos … lol maybe just film when it’s not windy as !
@@jimifixlol, keep up the interesting posts :)
Hi if you are thinking of doing a complete overall on it have a look at a video by K&R Walch they do a tipping cab one very nice 👍 and easier to work on
My father had one of those 1977. We drove it for 10 years till he died. Had an engine change in 79. Breakers yard had a smashed fire tender with a rolls Royce 330, guys changed it while we were on holiday. Never broke down, must have done a million miles in it. Fantastic lorry. Never forget it. Snb597r, I think that's its reg. Great video. Thanks.😊
Awesome ! I would love the 4x4 model ! Almost had one a few years back but it was in pretty bad shape… very happy with this one , finding the time to work on her is proving a little challenging.
We got a heavy recovery unit down the road from the quarry where I'm based, Thet still use bedford km tm and 4x4 ex military tlk. If you like I could pop in there and do a video with the old man I sure he would be up for it. Am I Wright in saying your in new Zealand ?
@@alanphillips556 oh wow that would be a sight! Ah yes I’m New Zealand
I'll see what time I got next month and get over there. By the way wife and I agree, awesome view from your property. Like WOW!! Cool videos, keep doing it like that , natural as as it is, no bull. Get back to ya soon.
11 minutos para ver como lo arranca ! Donde está la restauración ?
Good old school repair job on old trucks you can do this, long may they keep running. Modern high tech trucks are an electronic nightmare doubt they will last as long as this old Bedford. Nice truck to drive too.
Thanks for the comment, yeah she’s a pretty basic truck , and most of the parts are well designed , working on a new video soon
She got a crook valve or blown head gasket
Nice old trucks those !
I worked in Bedford truck Dunstable 80 to 85 in the cab trim ..Great days ...
Good one , they’re a nice simple set up. Mine even has a heater ! Haha
That Raspberry cordial mix should do the trick, Diesel makes a good parts soak!
Hi Fred , yep a mix of automatic fluid and diesel. Apparently it makes a good combo … I’m not far off making another video on diesel bob. Cheers
Great trucks Bedfords! As a native of Northern Ireland, I'm impressed that New Zealanders use the term "wee", as much as we do here! Cheers!
Haha yeah … I use the term wee a lot !
What an adventure, the excavator did well, that was quite a journey for it. Off and running now
Haha yep 👍 . It was scary how heavy it was!
What an awesome little dozer, many hours of fun ahead on this bloke doing some pushing once you get it going again.
That chassis looks pretty solid , you’ve got a great truck
There’s a wee bit of heave ,but I think it’s savable.
James, making good progress, yeah Marty T is the boy alright but you’re doing alright mate and just a matter of time before you have a decent following. By the looks of it you have an interesting library of jobs you’ve done so can’t wait to get into them. Go the mighty ABs
Thankyou sir , yep keep chipping away I’ll get there one day! Haha yeah Marty’s the man. I’ll head up country and go visit him one day. He’s a good sort. Oh man sometimes I have too much on the go but that’s all g.
Hi James, new subscriber, enjoy watching your videos, love these old TK Beddys, had a lot of fun in one when I had a fencing contract, great truck, very reliable. My old man was a great believer in Fisholene in door panels etc so maybe when you get those doors sorted it’s an idea. Great content, thanx for sharing
Hi Gordon thanks for the support and the suggestion. She’s a cool old beast looking foward to seeing it usable again. Yeah the doors aren’t too flash but the plan fix them up.
Doesn’t help pumping the accelerator on a diesel u must pump the lift pump
Yeah it’s habit thing cheers Amanda
These old Bedfords are adored in Pakistan, proper work horse.
Another great video, will you be giving the TK, a complete over haul or just a superficial job? Where abouts in NZ are you? Best regards from a ex ChCh lad now living in Melbourne 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks man ! Appreciate the support, at this stage I’m just getting her back to being drivable , and having fun and learning along the way … I’m really not sure if I will get it legal again , it’s such a hurdle here in nz and costly. I guess depending on how far I go with doing it up.
