    I worked in a manufacturing plant where the women could wear skirts but the men couldn't wear shorts in the summer. One of the male workers queried this with management and they said he could wear a skirt if he wanted. He turned up the next day wearing a skirt and did so for the next few months until they changed the policy. A legend.

      @I_360_No_scoped_JFK I'm speaking about generally. So to lose your cool to the extent that you refuse to admit you're wrong and this is speaking in the context of someone who has a big outreach, I think some people do it much more than others and that it is much more prominent in others to the point of mentioning. Like someone like Joe I wouldnt say is wrong and loses his cool, sure he is wrong sometimes and loses his cool sometimes like everyone, but not to the extent worth mentioning. Peterson makes bold statements and hints at things that make him look stupid and he refuses to admit that he's made a mistake. He also seems to exaggerate things to the point of the far right who seem to play the "It's a conspiracy because it's against my feelings" card

    One thing about the makeup point: I feel like he lumps *All* makeup into just being sexually provocative when its not true. What about women who want to cover up their facial scars, pimples, eye bags, etc? This is not being sexually provocative, but being presentable to society standards. Obviously showing up to work looking haggard and tired is detrimental to how your boss and coworkers perceive you, its some womens way of making themselves presentable. Also he says that red lipstick simulates the lips getting red during arousal, but what about nude lipsticks? Many more women wear that then red lipsticks, are nude lipsticks sexually provocative then?
    Also, people are so angry for his comment that "wearing makeup is sexually provocative" because people immediately link that to sexual assault, and people think that he is then blaming the women for encouraging the assault when this is not the case. Obviously Jordan Peterson is not making that point, but people have been jumping to that conclusion. For all of his wisdom, it baffles me that he didn't phrase that sentence differently

    9:15 Very important point about this issue: With the baker in Colorado whose case went to the Supreme Court, he didn't refuse to serve the gay couple, he only refused to make a wedding cake specifically. Nobody is saying they shouldn't have to serve gay people. He said he'd bake any other kind of cake for them just not a wedding cake because that would violate his religious beliefs and artistic freedom. This is probably why the Supreme Court agreed with him and he won that case.

      @M S That's 100% false. You are making the insanely incorrect assumption that any attempt by a person to increase their visual appearance is for the purpose of attracting sexual partners. For instance, if you were going into a business meeting with a male investor, wouldn't you wear your nicest clothes, comb your hair, shave, etc, i.e. make yourself look as presentable as possible? Does that mean you're trying to fuck him? No, It's just a way to make yourself more presentable and pleasing to look at, which may in turn make a person take you more seriously or be more likely to want to go into business with you. Make up is no different than shaving, or putting in hair gel, or putting on a nice suit, or getting your shoes shined. The fact that you don't realize this makes me think you're the naive one that you've never actually been in an office or worked in a corporate environment.
      In case that didn't convince you, maybe you can answer this for me. There are several women in the office that I work in who are over the age of 60 and have been married for a long time. They wear make up every day to work. Do you think they are trying to get laid? Do you think it's appropriate to make sexual advances toward these women? OR is she only "asking for it" when its a hot 22 year old intern?

    • @trollnerd
      @trollnerd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Edimonde makeup doesn't send any "signal" it's just a way for a person to improve their visual appearance. It's no different than wearing nice clothes or a Rolex watch or hair gel. If these things are only to attract sexual partners then why do people dress nicely or put on makeup even when they know they wont be in a situation with the opposite gender? It's not someone else's job to make sure that YOU are not sexually attracted to them. It's your job to read the room and act appropriately.

    Personal experience from a woman-
    I wore a dress to the office, honestly about 2 inches above the knee, form-fitting. Got pulled into the office about complaints. I worked with all women.
    Come summer, co-worker wears short shorts, a good few inches above the knee & tank top, form-fitting. *crickets*
    I complained to another coworker, a really friendly lesbian. She broke it down as Karen looks like a librarian no matter what she wears& I “ooze sexuality” no matter what I wear (her words).
    No matter what the dress code says, it boils down to how you rock it coupled with how intimidating it is to those less attractive than you. Sad but true.

This is an entirely biased and emotionally charge statement. Whether or not the majority of cases are exactly that is entirely irrelevant. Makeup CAN be used as sexual signaling, but saying “it’s not even a question! Obviously it is”, implies that it always is, and based on my 30 years of being a woman, and being close to many women, I’m led to believe it usually isn’t. I was most into makeup when I was a preteen, I know asexuals who love makeup. Makeup is a creative outlet, and when used to make a person like their appearance more that day, that could be something that is only for themself, or could be a way to make them feel more secure socially, regardless of whether or not they will be encountering people of their preferred sex.

You clearly dont know anything about him. Your probably see snippets of heavily edited clips that try to slander him and dont actually listen to anything he says for real because that may break your perception of him.

    • @desnock
      @desnock 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TangerineGrizzly I'm not misrepresenting his bias towards the left (nor his conflation of all his enemies into a general "us vs them" standard that cults require to sell their BS), or his popularity with groups in the the alt-right, at all. He admits that many of his fans are incels, so I think you're trying to put a false face on the kind of bias he extols. He justifies their bitterness, and....that's it.
      I would agree he and his band of incel-losers shouldn't be so bitter, but he and his cult are some of the most bitter people one can meet, so whatever he's advising hasn't worked for him or his cult. They can be helped by significant therapy and growing the fuck up. The man almost died from anxiety and depression that resulted in a drug addiction. It's simply not working (most especially for him, never mind his sad sack followers). He may be fooling folks more desperate than him, but most demagogues find people who are desperate. I have certainly seen him in multiple settings, so the idea that I'm not familiar with his biases and failures is simply not true. As I've studied cults including their leaders, I can say with certainty he's running a cult. I would simply ask you to look up what a cult is, objectively compare the Peterson cult to it and then we can have further discussion on how to get you out of it. Deprogramming is a process.
      I'm not marred to any idea. I've consciously studied the rhetoric and behavior and outcomes of the man (among others of his ilk, many from cults and/or religious figures, but also political figures), and certainly one can assess his group of folks with daddy issues that is experienced on a daily basis on social media where the Peterson cult member tends to be the least literate, the most emotional and the most in crisis. Most judgemental, most biased, least amount of common sense, the list goes on. They mistake being an asshole for being strong and then complain even more when that doesn't work for them and they end up worse off, alienating everyone around them, not unlike Peterson's own story. That people have pitied him even though he's been a royal asshole to them is a testament to those who put up with him, not him. Does this compute?
      The problem of what's wrong with telling incels to get their life together is the bias he installs on rather dumb and desperate never adulted boys that don't take personal responsibility and like their daft leader, blame the "enemy" be it women, gays, etc - it's punching down on groups that have been systemically underserved and attacked, and it's evil. These immature assules are in a state of arrested development and Peterson gets them nowhere. Pure and simple. Not a SINGLE person has gotten their life on track because if this pathetic and desperate individual NOT A SINGLE ONE. The proof is there hasn't been a single person in my experience with hundreds of Peterson-bots that is better off. They all remain ready to blame others for their shitty lives. And now feel empowered by this individual that uses Trump/Hitler like rhetoric and sheathes it in Scientology like language. A despicable, desperate person who is in crisis. So I hope he gets the help he needs, but more to the point, hope the people he's made worse off get the help THEY/YOU need.
      It's a cult. Do your research. If I'm wrong, then nothing to fear. If I'm right, no need to thank me other than getting out...ASAP.
      God Bless.

      @@desnock He speaks against the left, but if you actually listened to him, youll know he actively speaks against the extreme right. He has constantly encouraged people to read the Gulag Archipelago which is an account from one of the inmates of the gulag to educate people about the horrible tragedies of political tyranny and authoritarianism and the damages it can cause to people and society. He has openly expressed disgust over the evil of it all. He doesn't really represent a 'side'. He attacks the left and the right both but the right doesn't have a significant voice in mainstream media after the left won the culture war hence the lack of criticism. He has, on multiple occasions called himself a classical libertarian. And thats a good place to be politically.
      He admits that most of his viewers are 'young men' not incels. Unless you think all young men are incels ( In which case there is no hope for you) I dont know why you would say that. First off theres nothing wrong with young men seeking support from a man who asks you to 'clean your room', ' take responsibility for your actions' and 'get your life on track' when many young men are hated on by radical leftist mobs in pop culture and labelled toxically masculine just coz they are men. And whats wrong if incels watch his content? Thats great. At least theyll stop being bitter and make an attempt at improving their lives instead of whining and complaining.
      He doesn't justify their bitterness. He explains that bitterness is futile and you better take responsibility for your tragedies and put your life back on order. If anybody is putting a false face on him, its you. Just the first paragraph of what you wrote is enough for me to know that youve not actually watched anything from him unedited. You probably got all the information of him from shady articles from radical leftists trying to slander him and heavily edited videos.
      What do you mean by 'his advice isnt working for his cult'. First off, I disagree that it is a cult and second,several people, both men and women give him credit for saving their lives from the doors of suicide. Not being dead is working great for many people I assume but you could make arguments otherwise(especially if youre obsessed with Hitler)
      Yeah tell depressed people to grow the f*uck up. Very helpful. Jordan overworked himself and was diagnosed with depression and was recommended benzodiazepines which caused his body to have a paradoxical reaction which resulted in a physical dependence. This is the truth. What you did there was more lazy mischaracterization and zero fact checking.
      You ate indeed not familiar with him at all. Ive scoured the internet for criticism against him, but none of it criticizes his ideas. They seem to criticize what they think he said or what they want him to say to make him look bad. If he said something preposterous, Id have no problem disagreeing with him. I dont agree with everything he says and I dont consider him a messiah. But I think hes a good man that means well. He really is helping a lot of young men get their lives on track. My life is a testament to that. I went from lazy, irresponsible and extremely neurotic to disciplined and having relatively nice things to say about life. If I was bitter and whiny like you think all of us are, I wouldn't have felt the way I do now. I used to be bitter about how unfair life is and trust me, that aint a good feeling.
      Your assessment of a 'peterson cultist' is a broad generalization. Every person's fanbase can consist of a wide spectrum of people with varying temperaments. I dont really know what youre basing this off either. I could use the same language you used to describe Peterson's fans to describe an alt-right, a radical leftist, a social justice warrior, a nazi, a nationalist, a football fan, a movie fanatic and everyone in between. Do you really think that millions of people follow him coz theyre all bitter?
      He hasnt alienated anybody. Look at his family. His marriage and the millions of people that adore him. Several people travel across the world to listen to him speak and thank him for saving their lives. Sure it may resemble a cult, but he isnt giving people orders. He isnt manipulating the people or the truth. People adore him for his insights, wisdom and assistance.
      Not for one instance did his solution involve 'blaming the enemy'. All his advice literally revolves around taking responsibility for actions and even tragedies that happen to befall upon you. I will add a video link down below. Unedited, straight from the source. Give it a watch
      th-cam.com/video/DzbWnaK46tw/w-d-xo.html

We discuss his work and his talks about it once in a while. Jordan is a good man but youre willfully blind. I hope you do 'better' research.

    • @dskcl317
      @dskcl317 4 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      itsC0ll0n Looking good is not inherently sexual. If you’re a straight guy and you compliment a guy on how good his outfit is (“hey man, that’s a really nice suit”) you’re not asking to suck his dick. Wearing good makeup is the same thing as wearing nice clothes and accessories, it’s just that it’s hard for some guys to understand because makeup isn’t part of their routine, and they think of it as something ‘extra’. As a guy, have you never complimented a girl on how nice her shirt/sweater/outfit is without any sexual intent? Maybe it’s hard to understand for guys who don’t pay attention to how they dress and look (and thus don’t appreciate when someone else dresses well; some people are just like that), but it’s very natural for those who do. Plenty of straight guys want to dress well around each other not cause they subconsciously want to start an orgy but because they don’t want to look like bums. People dress well in the workplace and out in the open for the same reason-it’s perfectly possible they’re trying to pull someone but 99.9% of the time they just don’t want to look like someone who doesn’t take care of themselves.
      This is unrelated to office attire policy or whatever but I just thought that it was important to make this distinction clear.

It's more that we're following a way of doing things as "this is how its done", and it was set up to be done that way 50-70 years ago.... wouldn't that be worth questioning at this point?

      @Morgan Blair - Have you've seen the full uncut Vice video? He's not saying women dress up in heels and wear makeup and are sexulized as a result of an implication nor is he saying men wear suits to be in uniform is a result of an implication. He firmly believes women wear heels and make up to make themselves sexually attractive. And he firmly believes men wear suits as not to bring attention to themselves. That's the issue. He wrong on both accounts as least to the majority of the situations. Sure there are instances women can use makeup and heels sexually , and yes there are some men who wear a suit because they have to. But both sexes wear these attire to look professional, to look proper. to look respectful and to exude confidence.

    1. What happens when she wears the “natural look” ? You know Jordan, the no makeup look
    2. Is Jordan sexually repressed?

    This conversation puts us back in the dark ages. How about Men learn to contain and control themselves when in the presence of a woman. Makeup is a part of grooming. I find it amazing that in the year 2019, we are still being treated like children when interacting with the opposite sex. Let men and women figure it out. Life is life, people are people. You can't regulate or police human behavior. These types of discussion, when heard by the wrong people, enact segregation and weird dystopian rules, like we all need to be controlled and told how to think.

    Jordan Peterson overthinks things to the point he loses sight of the actual issue at hand. If Jim Jeffries asks him a question about a baker refusing to sell a wedding cake to a gay couple, it shouldn't take him "a week" (his words, not mine) to mull over every potential aspect of the issue. He gets lost in his own mind.

Let’s put on our Captain Obvious caps on and think about why. Oh, right, because Peepeeson came out looking good in that interview whilst he was revealed as the conservative idealist with blatant disregard for actual science scammer he is on the Vice interview (both the full interview and the edited version, he looked bad in both). Cry cry cry is what this guy does when he can’t win a argument.

      He’s a smart man and is fully aware of his propaganda and utter bullshit he spews being misrepresentations of facts as well as many instances where he is blatantly lying. Him being a smart scam artist doesn’t make him right. Facts don’t care about your feelings Jordo Cry-A-Lot Peepeeson.

I'd bake a cake for anyone if they got the cash. And this goes quite well with my faith, because Jesus said: You should not Judge. Ok... so no problem! I'll bake your cake for you, and you'll pay me, and I'll even deliver it with a smile! That's just good business, and its good manners.

    The rules for the workplace are ridiculous and impossible especially the ‘can’t look for five seconds’. But I doubt placing that ‘wear no makeup’ policy will do anything. That argument/example wasn’t convincing. There have been countless of incidents where both men and women have been sexually harassed where the individuals were not wearing makeup or dressing up dandy. Even if women were to dress provocatively, there are still boundaries. Wearing makeup to sexually attract still doesn’t give someone the justification to harass them. What happened to mutual understanding and respect in regards to the ‘professional workplace’? There’s a significant difference between finding someone sexually attractive and harassing them because of it. How bout instead of arguing about appearances, we start practising general mental exercises in the workplace. Instil ideas like ‘hey, you’re really hot but unless we both want to engage further, I’ll just keep my body and thoughts to myself.’ At least both men and women would be equal in that sense.
