    I couldn't get how to use the ratchet straps then I watched the video and realized someone put it together wrong and thanks to you I took it all apart and found out how it was supposed to be threaded. It works now!

    Best ratchet strap video I've found. Should have watched this before trying to strap for the first time. I made the exact mistake shown at 6:30. At least now I know I didn't completely ruin the thing. Thank you!

    Great video! Thanks very much for this information. You may have saved my husband's motorcycle from falling off the lift behind our motorhome. I'm going to show him this video so he'll learn what I've learned here.

    It’s a simple thing...drove me nuts! All I had to do was pull the excess out BEFORE tightening up the ratchet! Your video was easy to follow. Great teacher...now, I’m smart again! Lol...

    Well done! Great video, now I understand how to use these things.
    I also appreciate the verbal explanation without some crappy music blaring over top of it! Seems like most TH-cam creators want to be DJs and insist on a "sound track" when it's not necessary. And others avoid any narration at all, even when it would be helpful.
    So thanks again for a helpful explanation that I could easily hear and understand!

    Done this wrong forever, always getting loop wrong. Best video on this subject, it truly is a nightmare if you wind the strap the wrong way, real hard to undo it .thanks for the great video, good job!

    Thanks for this great explanation & demo...it's by far the best I've found. Since I don't use mine every day and have done it wrong a few times I like a refresher. They work like butter if you run the strap the right way...and are a nightmare to separate if you do it wrong. I know first hand as I did about a dozen wrong one time & spent many hours getting the straps unwound. I like to use some spray lubricant on the mechanism every so often to make them easier to use. They are tough little critters & mine have taken a fair amount of abuse over the years. I'm glad I found your video...Thanks for posting it.

    One thing you might also want to do is have a twist in the strap between the ratchet and the tie down point. It greatly reduces flapping when at highway speeds.

    You do not pull all the slack out before you start to ratchet. You need two to three wraps on the barrel to get the proper tension to hold your load.

    I just bought two ratchet straps, and it looks like I'm going to have to throw them away, because they're now totally jammed. I didn't know that they were going to be so difficult to use, and I didn't know that I could find operating instructions on TH-cam. I could buy another set, but I think I'll just use a rope. Oh, hold on...you shamed me into trying again, and I finally was able to get the strap out of the ratchet on one of them. I'll now try to fix the other one. Easy? No, that's not the word, but it might be if the "instructions" that came with the set were helpful. "take up slack" ? How much slack? All the way to the other end? handle? where? which part is the handle? "bar lift handle"? What's that? Well, I think I'll now be able to do the job for which I bought this tool, but maybe manana.It will be a better day.

    • @quabledistocficklepo3597
      @quabledistocficklepo3597 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJRockinRob ,Well, I've made progress, but I'm not done yet. I was able to rethread one of the ratchets, but not the other one. That strap was just too tangled-up by my earlier efforts to remove it. So now I'm working on my third ratchet. I had hoped to finish with it today, but I ran into an unexpected difficulty; the strap was too ong to ratchet up all the way, so now it's jammed in a different way. This is not fair. The instructions say nothing about this. The strap is 16' long, so I threaded it into the ratchet at its end, when I should have...I don't know. The rolled up strap in the ratchet is now as big in diameter as can be, and I can't wind up more into the ratchet. Well, I had meant to finish today, but I'm going to stop now and come back tomorrow. One thing that would work would be to cut the strap to a length that will fit into the ratchet. If that's the way it's done, the innocent buyer should be told so.

    • @quabledistocficklepo3597
      @quabledistocficklepo3597 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJRockinRob ,Well, I may just buy another ratchet if I can't get the strap out. It sounds to me now that I am supposed to thread the strap through that part that resembles a barrel with two slots and then continue pulling it through the "barrel" until the thing I am trying to tie-up is almost secured. Then you use the ratcheting feature to tighten it up. Is that it?

    • @quabledistocficklepo3597
      @quabledistocficklepo3597 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJRockinRob ,You may have wondered how anyone could have viewed your video and have made the mistakes I did. Well, the short answer is, I didn't. I didn't watch your whole video, that is. If I had, I wouldn't have made them. Now that I have that clear, I'm going out to secure my ladder to the tree. Oh, one last point: removing jammed straps. I thought you had discussed this, but I couldn't find your comments again, so I went to another video. The answer was simple: stand on the strap and pull on the ratchet with both hands. That worked just fine. Now I think I know everything I need to know about ratchets.

      "it sounds as though you have fundamentally used the ratchet wrong."
