Hi from The Netherlands. I solved the problem with an actuator in another way. I drilled, carefull, a 3mm hole in the case near the electric motor gear. Then I blowed WD40 inside the actuator. Now the actuator is working again. I could reach the actuator without removing the door lock.

good idea, maybe it is possible to seal the hole afterwards with a tip of glue from a heatgun or smthng else?!

I just bought a secondhand vehicle with two broken actuators. Auto wreckers want hundreds of dollars for replacements. This little video has given me a major boost toward fixing the problem myself for nothing, thanks so much!

If you dont want to do this twice. I recommend replacing the DC motor. The brushes get worn and carbon builds up on the commutator creating resistance.
A lubricant for the bearings would be to use 3 in 1 oil.

more like graphite powder, any 'oil'/lubricant will heat up Annnd, burn out the motor.Really.

Ther s another problem with those junk little DC brushed motors. The dust from The brushes Will deposit on The copper commutator/collector of The rotor, and There will be no more good resistance free of The current to pass from The brushes to The collector, hence, The motor will move sluggish, or not AT all or randomly,. You can measure with a meter on resistance/ohms, and turn slow and stop, read The value, turn, stop, and so one. A bad one will have for example, 5 ohm, 10ohm, 80 ohm, 200 ohms, în different positions of The shaft. A good one will have a constant 3to 5 ohms, values depending on various motors. The Best option îs to carefully beat those lateral metalic tabs, and open The plastic part with The brushes, carefully and clean The collector of The rotor with a sharp cutter/knife, gently scraping The copper plates/armature, and clean whith a needle The space between them(dust from brushes collect There and shorts The armature/not a good thing for motor torque)

      Correct Andrew.
If I could get a similar motor, I would simply replace it.
Also, for lubrication, I would use silicone lube instead of WD-40.
      But nice video guide still.

I nice tip I have, when you want to pop or separate two plastic parts stuck together, use a Wood chisel.
Jam it between the two piece and slowly/gently try to separate them by prying or turning the chisel (Be careful when doing this).
Using a screw driver works, but cause more damage to the plastic.

    Beaut vid !!
I would highly recommend NOT using a strong 2 part type glue to put it back together though !!
I would recommend a light layer of silicon and zip ties so that a repeat fix in the future can be done again easily without busting the cases completely..and if small cracks are made like it this vid, i would say seal those little areas up with silicon too for less moisture entrance.

This is not an actuator fault.
It is likely a fault with the lock itself or a faulty pull cable between the lock and the door handle.

Hey there. I have an 08 Town Car, and it looks like I need to replace my lock door actuator on it. Same location as yours; the rear door on the driver's side. It's currently jammed and I can't get the door to open at all. Here's the thing I wanted to find out from you: it was actually briefly working for a day or so, a few weeks ago, after getting it back from a mechanic who was diagnosing something on the car for me. I haven't been able to talk to the mechanic since then......but I suspect that he might've briefly dissconnected the battery for a brief time. Do you think dissconecting(then reconnecting) the battery is the reason why that door was briefly working?

    • @thelimogarage9665
      @thelimogarage9665  ปีที่แล้ว

The most common reason for a door lock actuator to not work is a poor connection. Try lightly hitting the door while pushing the unlock button. You might get lucky.
