Put whatever you can fit inside your meat can. Put the sweater and raincoat out flat. Wrap the rest of the contents of the bag in your sweater and raincoat and slide it into the bag. It should all fit if done correctly and the raincoat will keep the contents reasonably dry, even in a fairly heavy rain.
The water container I would have never taken in because I would use my helmet as a wash basin. The mess kit bag I would leave behind because you can pack the mess kit with the KFS inside it wrapped in a small face towel. You can pack 3 D Ration meals inside your M36 pack for combat. You may also need a can of oil and bore cleaner to maintain your weapon, but those can be stowed into the pockets of the M42 Jump Jacket. There also can be room for an extra bandolier of ammo inside too. In my opinion I would pack it that way if I were to jump into combat. I went to my Airborne School reunion 2 years ago at Ft. Benning and went to the US Army Infantry Museum and saw that majority of Paratroopers also carried a 6 foot length rope stowed beneath their M36 packs. It was used to cross small streams tied together with other squad members ropes.
In a way you are right. Gi's would probably pack it to their liking. Tho i wanted to stick to the instruction as it was written in the manual. The rope was often ditched after the jump because they wouldn't need it anymore and if they needed rope they could ask battalion or even the engineers. Thanks for watching and your comment!
@@martinscolthistorytoursree635 Great watching your channel the first time tonight here in the US. The American G.I. was the best equipped soldier during WWII compared to other soldiers in the world to include the Allies. I like your presentation of how it was supposed to be packed by instruction or by regulation. I will keep watching and enjoying your content.
Good video! Where did you get your original pieces of kit? The chocolate fascinates me...Do you ever feel tempted to take a tiny sliver & taste it? Is the bag original as well? I imagine you covered all the physical areas involved in Market-Garden...What did you think of "A Bridge to Far?"My complements, I have previously read your source, & as far as I know, you are the only one that packed his gear according to specs...You look like the real deal in all your gear...what do you use for armament? You remind me of the combat pictures of paratroopers I have seen...Lastly, my best wishes to you for a full recovery....subbed...
Nobody carried any of that crap, brother. LOL Spoon went into a pocket. Mess kit? Wash kit? LOL They carried ammo, food, cigarettes, condoms, personal letters. If you want to be "realistic" then don't follow manuals or unit policies. Go spend several days in the field and you'll figure it out.
Yes but no. I used the manual to fill up my bag. What they did afterwards was personal preferance. Just like todays army it days in the manual how to pack your bag in basic but as soon you're finished you Just stuff your bag with the things you think are most important.
@@martinscolthistorytoursree635 Always remember that "the manual" is written for peacetime. On a training exercise, you would be expected to carry what the checklist said. But in the real world, GIs burned through ammo very fast. Bandoliers added more but they actually had special vests designed to supplement bandoliers. Rangers and paratroopers would fill every pocket and sack with ammo. Maybe a little food. I don't reenact but I would think it would be important to figure out the context. Are you displaying the gear a paratrooper might have before a jump . . . or during the Battle Of Bastogne . . . or during pre-deployment training at Camp McCall?

Yes I did enjoyed your video! I've been trying to figure out just what the loop canvas inside near the top of the bag is used for, would you?
