  • After WWI, American troops were looking for a less complicated backpack system to carry their gear. One of the products to come out of that was the M1936 musette bag. Issued to a wide array of troops this bag performed well for those who used it and makes for an inexpensive and easily obtained item to add to any wwii collection.

No idea what the loop inside was for. I figured it was either something that was done either as part of the manufacturing process or for some kind of reinforcement to avoid wear. Thanks for the info on the side pouch, makes sense after you said.

That makes the most sense that I heard yet, thank you! I myself was thinking that it could've been used to cut patches to sew holes in the bag.

So any idea what the loop inside the bag is for? I just got one and I am curious. I do know one thing. That small buttoned pocket on the side, was for the "Shoulder" strap. So you could store the strap when using the bag on the suspenders.

Thank you for the video. I have one question what is that loop of canvas inside, near the top of the pack is used for? I've looked at it and thought about it since I got mine and I can't figure it out.

Not sure. If I were to guess, I’d say it was done by manufacturers to befuddle future collectors. Thanks for watching the vid. I hope you enjoyed it.
