Ah, the bulk tomato canning days. 10-13 years ago we were a household/family of 5. Us 4 plus Aunty M. Aunty M would help me in the garden regularly. One year I put in 25 tomato plants and bottled 150 jars of plain diced tomatoes. Aunty M was convinced that that was far too many plants and jars but, you know what I'm going to say next. By the following start of summer we had run out already.
So happy to see you enjoying your stove so much. One tip, I found that on my propane canning stove, that I turn the burner to halfway between medium and high level, it prevents the chance of the handles of pots getting too hot( or melting if not metal).
I feel like the burners aren't getting as hot as they could, especially compared to the camp chef, I am wondering if the previous owners changed the jets or not, they said they were running it on LPG, but it had a Natural Gas regulator on it, so I'm wondering if they haven't changed the jets from natural to LPG! I'm going to have to investigate, because even on full its quite a small diameter burn, not like on the camp chef :D
I've been a bit slack! lol, I end up with all this footage collated and then it gets to dinner time every night and i'm like, argh, I didn't get a voiceover done again! Summer is a bit easier for that, because its nice and bright so much longer!
Just a simple hint that works every time.....put a pinch of baking soda in with vegetables when you cook them. It will bring their colour back. I use it to freshen up the colours of carrots and beans and cauliflower and even corn.
It worked really well, I know the kids aren't really into thin soups, its like they don't find it as much of a meal... so adding that ravioli in and serving with garlic bread seemed to just hit the spot for them! :D
Our weather’s been so rubbish in the UK this year that I’m already actively planning for Christmas! It just seems fitting, when it’s grey and cold and you can’t get out and about much, to sit and make lists of things needed for the depths of Winter time…
Another wonderful video of you working your magic in the Kitchen... I just love you green chicken curry , the more sauce the better & it looks delicious 😋... I am sure your frozen vegetables will work better for you this shop.. Can't believe that I am watching you really early.. love your new stove Nyssa & your knives... Happy weekend 😊
That curry looks amazing… yum!! If you ever have a spare eggplant or some baby corn they have become my favourites to add into my curries lately. And at the end of shopping cycle, I use up my sweet potatoes or pumpkin in a yellow curry sauce with chickpeas and that’s pretty delish too!
I love this wide shot of you working but also all the different used cooking objects in the background across the table. It makes it feel like I'm there sitting watching. Ugh I FKn LOVE tomato soup and a cheese toastie hell yeah never thought to make it. Look at you all inspiring and shxt every damned video Nyssa ❤!!!!
OMG, Christmas! I can't add that to things to consider right now but I admire you for being able to. Yummy video, I love tomatoes and roasted are the best. Thanks.
I enjoy watching your videos as it is giving me ideas on how to stretch out my food even though I'm only on a pension and have an adult son still at home plus a boarder. Keep up the great effort
Just watching your lovely latest video and spotted at 1.35min in, your chopping board has a face on it. She looks shocked that you’re about to use your knife on her…..so funny…. Another fabulous video…❤
Oh me too! but no basil in these temps atm lol! and I didn't end up preserving much in the end, I used it all, making things like basil ice cream hehe :D
Nyssa, your voice seems to have more pep in it, you are obviously so happy with your new stove/oven which I don’t blame you. Enjoy experimenting with new and old recipes. Snookums 😃
I remember the first time I tried coconut rice at a Thai restaurant, I thought they'd given us dessert rice! It was so delicious! Gotta love a good curry at this time of the year!
hehe, yes, the coconut adds such a sweetness, and sometimes I add a tiny sprinkle of raw sugar as well, just to pull that coconut flavour even further forward, but it could be a dessert! I used to make a rice pudding with coconut milk, orange juice and a drizzle of dark chocolate... so good!
The curry looked delicious! You inspire me to want to try new things. I'm trying to get in my mind what it actually tastes like. We love spicy food so that's not a problem.
It’s a lovely flavour, but I like most Thai curries, they’ve got some heat but sort of delicate flavours too, much more hrmm floral ? Than say Indian curries!
If you’re in Australia, pick up a Marion Thai green curry kit in the International aisle of Coles or Woollies. It’s a bit more expensive to get the kit, but everything is in there and you can see if you like the flavours. Ps. We don’t even use the chillies they include, and it’s plenty hot! Pps. You still have to buy say 1-2 chicken breasts, 2 zucchinis and a can of corn kernels.
@@OurSmallFootprint I actually think you do it more economically. Her kits are around $8 now. I was more referring to the other person who commented, because they might not already have all the ingredients (which you do!)
I have never thought of not using broccoli stalks. We love them. Curry looked great. I transplanted an avocado that came up itself into a large pot but I am afraid it did not like being transplanted and is looking pretty grim. A couple of frosts did not do it any good either. It could not be left where it was unfortunately. Hard to try and get things into sheltered spots but still have access to sun when it does shine in winter. I have planted a lot of peas and am hopeful of a good crop. Beans have not done well. Off outside to pot up a size or two for some other plants before all the rains come again this coming week. Hopefully they do not mind being repotted. Glad the stove is going good for you cooking more at once.
Yayy your back nyssa, love that green thai curry and coconut rice it looks absolutely delicious, i need to try it ialways do red thai curry for aome reason, but this looks good. Thanks for another great vlog nyssa and for dinner inspiration 😀
Sometimes I get some big gaps between videos and sometimes I get on a roll lol. I'm always filming each day, but getting them to a point I can share can be challenging :D
Neither D nor I are fond of capsicum, which is unfortunate, because it is supposed to be nice in a lot of things! Some of the kids eat it raw, but aren't fond of it cooked, its one of those ingredients because I don't like it (It repeats really badly on me) I don't use it much and the kids haven't had much introduction to it.
oh, my cast iron ones probably would, I dunno if having both levels completely covered might impact heat movement in there too though, realistically I'm probably better off having those gaps and allowing better air flow rather than having to rotate the pans, because they're heavy!
@@CarriesCulinaryCrafts oh, I wonder how they fit turned around, whether they’d go two deep…. Though getting them in and out is hard work, being so low and them so heavy and my issues with hands/shoulders. I do call D out to help sometimes though.
@@OurSmallFootprint Yes I too have issues with hands, wrists, arms, shoulders and back so I know what you mean! Today I had the next step of relieving the pain, I had cervical shots between vertebra's so hopefully it works. its has been a 2 year long issue testing and procedures to nothing working yet.
We have solar :). We have two arrays, one on the main house and one in the garden and we have a generator to help top up the main system in inclement weather :)
My daughter was really struggling with understanding the 8,9 weekly. I told her 6 times per YEAR. That she could understand. Maybe an easier explanation?
Yes, that's true, concise. I think because its only recently that I've upped it again that I'm working out how to explain it, I was doing 6 weekly for most of the year so far, but with the change of employment that wasn't feasible anymore, so I've had to chnage the cycle to accomodate pay cycles/project work etc.
I totally get it, but it was as if the concept was beyond her. I have a freezer of meat and a garden so I have to go to the grocery as little as humanly possible!
@@jenniferr2057 the plan is to get more self sufficient with the gardens etc, but I don't know that I could ever do enough to not have to do my trips, not with 8 of us here, its a nice thought lol.
Thank you Nyssa❤️ I love watching this while I’m doing my thing in the kitchen. Helps to inspire me to create new meals for my big family of 9 ☺️
Thank you Nyssa. Thank Daryl also for his much appreciated flourish.

I bet you are loving your new stove! The Tomato Soup with Ravioli, looks so delicious. Also, tell Daryll I love when he shows the food off. 😂
It has definitely streamlined some of the meals, being able to have 3 pans on the go rather than putting stuff aside

That spray bottle for the olive oil is such a good idea. It’s become so unaffordable at the moment!
