    This thing already looks like a sturdy contender for any publication's SUV of the year for 2018. Such an impressive jump from the last model.

      Ano Nymous So, why would you want a Wrangler if you don't offroad???

    • @sdk1991zzang
      @sdk1991zzang 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Sad to know you did not catch me implying that the new Wranger is that desirable even to non off roaders.

    • @earthling1984
      @earthling1984 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ano Nymous I got that. But, it's a very dumb choice for a non-offroader. People get Wrangles to be "cool". It's super dumb, and, a waste of money. There are so many better cars and suvs out there for the normal on road driver. More room inside, more comfort on road, better gas mileage, the list goes on. Anyone who gets a Wrangler for simply road use isn't using their brain very well when buying a vehicle.

      @kevman949 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you actually watched the video, then you'll see that the new wrangler is now decent on road. So people can drive them and look cool. So what?

    It's amusing all the people who were saying how fortunate they were to get a JK before FCA ruined the Wrangler with the JL... I think a lot of those people are feeling that sting of buyer's remorse right about now.

      FlyLowLikeRylo right?I had a friend that paid full retail for a Rubicon 3 months ago, because all of his jeep "expert" friends had it on "good authority" that the new model would suck. He paid like 58 grand out the door.

    Base model gets manual locks and no AC.
    But it has keyless go and a backup camera.
    Who the hell thought this made sense?

    • @tenhundredkills
      @tenhundredkills 6 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      The backup camera makes sense because it's legally required by on all new vehicles starting in 2018.
      I do see your point though about keyless go but manual locks. That makes no sense at all!

    • @ast5515
      @ast5515 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The regulation that mandates a backup camera doesn't make sense to me either. Maybe if they only mandated it for longer vehicles? I mean... Do you really need a backup camera in a Smart? You turn around the the back of the car is 2 feet behind you.

    • @swossek3563
      @swossek3563 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a 2 seater roadster and it's a complete bitch to back up with. Ever driven a car thats ass is 1/4th the size of its hood and with terrible visibility? It's hard. Hell, the viewing angles in Lambos are so bad people sit halfway out the door on the door jam with the door open to back up. I used a front cam for the first time in an Explorer I rented, that was awesome too. Made parking that bigass truck in a parking garage a lot easier. th-cam.com/video/S9S_2-vZZ80/w-d-xo.html They're convenience features but they're damned great and you appreciate them once you've got them.

    • @ywu60
      @ywu60 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      no, the backup camera is not installed for the reason of easy back up. It's for safety concern that some naughty kids would get behind your car and you could easily ignore it and continue to press on the pedal.

    • @swossek3563
      @swossek3563 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I owned cars with backup cameras way before they were mandated, hell, before Obama was even in office, Lexus has had them forever. And they have parking lines to help you park. Two birds with one stone. Child safety and easy parking.

    I know someone could easily break into it if they really wanted to but does the lack of zippers on the soft top make this Wrangler more secure than previous generations? Does the tailgate need to be open/unlocked in order to take out the windows? thanks

    Removing the soft top side panels is easier if you just detach the rear first and then pull from the rear. And the rear panel is easier if you pull from the left since you don't have to deal with the tailgate getting in the way.

    What transmission is being used for the manual models? I am actually surprised that it would be lower than the 8 speed auto. The 8 speed has to have at least a 4.71 found in current ZF 8 speed and if it this is the gen 2 trans I believe a 5.0:1 first gear.

    • @stevenp3176
      @stevenp3176 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TRANSMISSION: D478 MANUAL, SIX-SPEED WITH OVERDRIVE
      Availability: Standard - 3.6-liter V-6
      Description: Synchronized in all forward gears and Reverse, multi-rail shift system with top-mounted shift lever
      50% shorter throws
      Gear Ratios:
      1st - 5.13
      2nd - 2.63
      3rd - 1.53
      4th - 1.00
      5th - 0.81
      6th - 0.72
      Reverse - 4.49
      Final Drive ratio - 3.45 standard, 3.73 optional (4.10 Rubicon)

      Too bad the diesel won't be offered with the 6 speed. That would be too much fun for me anyways. Nice turbo diesel and manual transmission in a wrangler. Guessing there are probably a few reasons. One being that the D478 might not have a high enough power handling and probably more importantly not enough demand for manual transmission.

    • @Aroundtheworld1019
      @Aroundtheworld1019 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Oxyrisen I started out car shopping wanting a 4Runner TRD Pro, but I couldn’t make myself pull the trigger on it because of the outdated transmission and lack of technology. They wouldn’t even let me add a sub roof or push start to it, let alone blind spot monitoring or Apple car play, etc.. the JL Wrangler I ordered is coming with more safety/tech than my wife’s Lexus from 2014! It will probably have a better crash results and gas mileage than a 4Runner too. So, say what you want about the reliability of a 4Runner vs FCA products, but from what I read the engines do okay in the Wranglers and at least it feels like it has 21st century tech. It is by far the better product and will be until Toyota updates the 4Runner.

    After looking at hundreds of built up JK's, and their custom builds; will many of these after market parts be able to be installed on the new JL, or will companies be retooling to provide the same after market parts for the new JL... I think from a fun point of view; I'll stick with a newer JK.... The JL looks like it belongs to the Hollywood, rich pony set, and not to the average joe/jane

      Don´t they are terrible to maintain, we had them in Europe for years. The little you save in fuel will be spend to maintain that diesel

    As a whole, I like the new JL, I own a 4 dr JK. However, I don't like the way or the look of how the new soft top folds down.

    Continuity problem. Shows the 2-door and talks reduced rear legroom then cuts to the 4-door "plenty of cargo space," which is something the 2-door doesn't have. Oops!
    Other than that it's a great vid.
