Im glad we have so many multiple championship winners here picking apart someone who has worked their ass off to compete in these competitions, prepared to put her abilities on display to be judged by her peers. Her appreciation would be overflowing Im sure
Omg I can't believe I didn't expect that I would find this kata, is I am in karate classes, I am advanced purple ribbon and my sensei is teaching me kata shisochin !!!! I LOVE THIS KATA 🥋❤
Great Precision, Focus and Execution. I also admire the move between Soft and Hard. I don't myself do Karate so I don't understand the kata, still I can admire it for its own sake. Terrific.
I’m still learning this kata but I found that it’s a good way to learn katas by watching higher belts do the kata. And this one is really good to learn from because she does each movement slowly and has good technique
Absolutely beautifully performed and probably perfect demonstration of Shisochin, one of my favourite Goju Ryu kata. I can only dream that one day i will be this good. Many thanks for sharing.
Building on the comments of Matt Henderson, a perfect demonstration of this kata can only be relative to the ryuha from which it was learned. A search of TH-cam will give one several different interpretations of this form. As a second to several of the comments herein, this is what 'sport' karate does to the art. A jizzed up interpretation, for nothing more than pretty and points, of a pattern which was developed to simulate an attack, defense scenario. There's certainly nothing about her 'performance' to suggest the aforementioned. Can the BS and give me serious traditional kata execution if you want to compare abilities of a stylist.
Student here... Who is sure how this kata should be done...everyone seems to be giving opinions... I have seen two versions from 2 different masters then there is this... Can someone give clarity? Anyone ?
Depends on a few things. First, your style. I'm no expert, but this looks to goju-ryu karate. Other similar okinawan styles may do this kata slightly differently. Second, many kata are performed differently in tournament versus traditional manner. This is 100% a tournament version. They look a little extra flashy and dramatic, with over exagerated pauses followed by very fast movement. To the average bystander, seeing a good tournament kata will get some Ooos and Aahhs. Often time people will say that tournament kata lacks the same power and refinement that traditional kata has, which can often be seen by looking at hip motion--the tanden--where power is generated in goju. For a great example of this kata performed traditionally, I personally would recommend Morio Higaonna Sensei.
Exactly, shouldn't each move look and feel as though it is part of the last one. Also you can tell that she is very tense in her moves as there are long pauses where it looks as though she is unsure. I have been training for 4 years and this is only what I can see, so please tell me if I am wrong in parts.
Thanks to Shisochin I won many medals, my favorite kata

Excellent.
So many fundamentally important aspects of this kata omitted for "style."
Matt-san, yes the techniques between the movements have been lost. :(
Perhaps you can enlighten us as to what is lost?

Pas fan, je préfère la version Morio Higaonna.
Lame: Yagi Meitoku's great-grand-kids do theirs more better than her.
Agreed.
Too much posing. Its a performance i know but its like she was making a instagram vifeo
THIS IS WRONG!!!! it should be fluid and natural. She is forcing her body to move, she should just be allowing it to
