- We're Phil and Kayleigh, a husband and wife living in rural Bulgaria with our two children, Alex and Ember. It's always been our dream to live a more self-sustainable life off grid. So, we've sold all our belongings, escaped the rental rat race and bought a plot of land. Complete with a derelict house and 3 barns, we hope to create our new life mortgage free. We've faced lots of hurdles already, so hang on tight as we show you highs and lows of moving abroad and starting again.

The steps are steep but are holding together, these are temporary until we can afford to build a deck out the front. Thanks for the kind words! See you on the next one.

Hi , wish your wife well I’m 67 and busted my upper right almost the same way in 2020 . Just do what the doc tells you to do an you’ll heal up fine . I’m from the US but I lived in Austria 17 years , and had to take a truck to Sofia , Bulgaria is a interesting place . The truck broke down and I met some nice people . Hope all works out with your new home good luck .

@@OffGridWithTheUdens cmon they refurbished the high street not long ago xd but yea once you done with the house you won’t need to drive that amount of miles as back in UK as I use to live in Canterbury and work in Croydon was a nightmare 😵💫 then changed the job to one in Tilbury just spend my lifetime on Dartford crossing traffic jams and M25

hey maybe a tip good to see u back btw ;) for ur road i might know a fix iff thats possible in bulgaria tho, but when a demolition company breaks down concrete buildings, they often make the stone smaller for easyer transport, in my country they eventually have to pay to dump it aswel, so often when u aproach those company and ask them iff they can bring u a few truckloads of smaller/concrete stone, u can devide it all over your driveway and it makes it easyer to drive when they are pushed in eventually of the weight and stuf, would also make water less functional to keep u stuck. Dunno iff its possible in bulgaria tho but thought id might share the tip as it litterly costs nothing, they happy they can dump it somewhere, i did this often for forest roads.

Congrats on the move and taking the plunge, looking forward to following along! I was wondering what is the connection like out in rural areas? Do they have cable internet like we do in the UK?
Bulgarian Internet Speed is actually one of the fastest in the world and makes it ideal for remote online work. The speed varies where you are, but in our little village we have always had mobile signal - actually better signal than back in Ashford! We have a video coming up on our internet set up so we will be sure to put the speeds in for your reference. 👍

What could possibly go wrong really? Top skiing in the winter, good food and the best-Greece is only 4 hours drive away…😂😂😂
BTW you both look like locals so you’ll blend right in.
For us Greece is only 25mins away 😁 and we may well head out and try skiing at some point. 👍
@@OffGridWithTheUdens Oh that’s even better then, if you are that close to Greece means you are also close to Bansko which is one of the best skiing resorts in Europe and you are also close to Rila and Pirin which are fantastic mountains for hiking.

Hey again. Thank you so much again for the information you give and awesome info on your videos. It’s hugely enjoyable to watch and thoroughly filling me with excitement for future plans to potentially move to Bulgaria. just a quick one regarding your travel across on the eurotunnel. all it says on the web is AGW load 3.500kg. My van weight is 3.100kg. looking at your van and the caravan how does that work are you allowed both on and what’s the weight limit? I also want to drive my 2019 Vauxhall Vivaro van across, so curious to make that journey at some point to obviously take things across. Just curious about the weight.? You seem to be way over with that load.? 😂 how did that work? TIA
Thanks for the kind words. Weight wise I have no idea we turned up and got loaded on no trouble. We certainly were very heavy both with the van and caravan and the land rover and trailer (both separate trips) never had an issue.
They might be more sensitive if you're going on the double decker carriages. Due to our height we were only in a single decker. Hope that helps. 👍

@3 mins you only had 1 hours before train departure? How did you make it through customs etc? Doesn't Euro train depart from St Pancres in London - or is there a stop you caught?
The Eurostar is for passengers only and departs from London St Pancras. The Eurotunnel departs from Folkestone and is for vehicles. In this video we used the Eurotunnel. 👍

Yes, but not with the caravan fully loaded. He was also doing us favour 🙂 it's amazing how much more straight forward things can seem on a video 🫣

Guys, you wanna invade us quietly or what? 😄 Welcome to the huge garden called Bulgaria but ignore the broken roads and beware of the nosey neighbours and always buy stuff from local shops🤣🤣 Welcome!
It's a better way of life out here for us and although once great, England felt like a constant battle for the basics. Since moving here we have gained more family time and learnt so much. ❤️ Always supporting the local shops too - so important! Thank you for the welcome x
