I was just diagnosed with ADHD, used to do lots of projects but gave up until now. Your video was so clear and instructions precise that my first ADHD project turned out just great. I had one of the handles twisted so seemed ripped it and did it over, so glad I did. I will be making many more. I wish there was a way to share a pic so you can see what a wonderful teacher you are. I have subscribed. Looking forward to more of your project’s. 😊❤
Thank you for a great, quick and easy (to understand) tutorial! I appreciate simple camera angles and clear instructions 🤗. Can't wait to sit at my machine and be a busy bee!
Thank you. I have been on a tote bag binge and have been watching lots of videos. Yours was the most comprehensive and inclusive step-by-step video. Now off to finish my bag. I did finish and something didn't come out right!!! Have to look at your video again.
Thank you for this tutorial. I am going to make this tote bag as my give away for my 70th birthday. Simple and easy to follow.😍😍, have subscribed and liked
I made custom dimensions and decided to add interfacing to the outside layer, but otherwise used your instructions for my tote bag and I’m so happy with the results. Thank you for this tutorial!
@@jailynallen9891 you just cut it to the same size as your outside layer and iron it onto the wrong side of the fabric. It's not neccesary, but just a personal preference to help give the bag a little stiffness and body.
Will have to try this with the fabric straps - I usually use the nylon webbing. Quicker way if interested - I do a half yard per side, so only 2 seams pretty sides of one side together. Lining same. Then do a triangle with your fingers to box your corners, sew straight across to form the 3rd side of the triangle. I usually only do this on the outer bag. But I prefer my lining tacked down so it doesn't come out when the bag gets washed. Attach the lining by the corner to the triangle of the outer bag. Turn the outer bag around the inner one. Shake and adjust. I also try to get the bulky egdges on the opposite side so you don't get all the bulk on one side. Fold the two layers in at the top about 1/2 inch or more. Figure where you want to put your handles. To measure I just fold the bag in half so they line up - adjust the pinned handles as needed. Then you have your template to put the handles on the other side of the bag - no need to wonder if the handles are twisted because you can see them. I sew the top using a double needle and the SS setting on my Necchi machine - so rather than side to side which would break both needles, it goes back and forth or up and down - then you can have 3 colors of thread. If you want to do a bunch of them at once, I wait until I have about 20 bags - all with one pin for each part of the handle, so 4 pins/bag, then all that has to be done is sew the tops of the bags - hope that helps. Will try the fabric handles though. I usually use 1.5 yards of webbing, cut in half with pinking shears so they are less likely to fray, then put between the bags about an inch for each part of the handle.
Thank you so much Liz! I successfully followed this tutorial (as well as your how to put a zip in lining) to make a beautiful bag I am proud of. It’s a present for my sister and I think she’ll love it. Xxx
Hi Liz, I REALLY enjoy your videos! I have learned/re-learned how to create totes , etc. I am new to crafting, and like the way you share the who, what when and the why's. Please don't stop!!
I’m helping a 9 year old neighbor her first ever sewing project. She did a scrappy patchwork for the outer layer. Out of all the available tutorials this was best. Halfway through she decided to enter it in the Colorado State Fair. So we’ll see! 🤞🏼
Hello, I am new to this channel. I found this very easy to understand and very nice to follow. Absolutely love your kind sweet voice. Reminds me of my mother in law and she is one of my favorite people lol
Thank you sooooooo much wish I could attach my bag this is verry beginner friendly and I will be coming back when I make my other totes ! Your straps were a bit hard for me but I love everything else my bag is awesome thank you
I needed a quick "gift wrap" and had some fabric that was perfect for the giftee. Thank you for a quick and easy lesson in my first bag. The seams are's pretty, but I think it'll do! Happy Holidays to you!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I appreciate your simple directions and visibility of the details. I wound up adding a pocket and it turned out perfectly!! I am quite the beginner and have gotten a great boost of confidence to do more projects! I will definitely subscribe to your site!
TYSM for sharing this in - depth tutorial on sewing a tote bag. Am a new subscriber, so, I haven't seen all your videos yet. Sooo, do you have a video which shows how to make a bag with a "stay - put" lining in it ? I appreciate your help, either way. Love your channel. 👍😻😍
Wonderful tutorial, thank you. This is the first actual thing I have ever made on the sewing machine I have had for 20 years and I am so pleased with it! It looks great and you can't even tell that I can not sew a straight line to save my life LOL!
Me too this was my first ever sewing project. One thing I did to help get straight lines was actually to use chalk or pencil and use a ruler to draw a straight line, so when you are sewing you know your Stiches aren’t wonky.
Thank you so much for this tutorial well God bless you i love bags cant have enough, but the simpel way of explaining first thing for june 26 thank you so much❤❤❤❤❤❤
cool bag,i was wondering what kind of fabric are you using to line this tote bag with?please let me know because i want to make a tote bag my daughter?
Very helpful tutorial. Can I please know the name of the board with inch squares, which you placed the material and machine on. Can I also know where I can order it. Thank you
It's a self-healing quilting mat. I have some by Olfa, Fiskars, and U.S. Art Supply. You should be able to order them online on Amazon or other sites :).
The first one I made came out great. Then I made one with pockets. I kept the right sides together….the pockets, but then they ended up being on the wrong side of the lining 😖. Time for the seam ripper…
Quick question if you do not have a iron what else can someone use to iron? We just moved into our house not to long ago and do not have a iron yet lol
Never a dumb question! Yes it does but when you sew the corners again you will sew over those original seams so that they are locked in place again. Hope that helps!
The secion on the straps is very confusing. I have never seen anyone sew it diagonally. Also, why would you have extra fabric left. I've only made one bag but ...
Could you do this without putting two layers one inside the other couldn't you just put two layers of material and sew them and cut them all together and then turn the whole thing right side out
Helloooooo I’m new to your channel and I just joined and I hear the music while you are talking 😢 to which I going to ask nicely unless someone has already asked to STOP the annoying music 😊 thank you very very much
Why wouldn’t you just cut 2 x 24 inches pieces for the handles instead of mucking around with all that extra fabric and having an unnecessary join. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

aw thanks so much!
Grandma is making a library tote bag for my grandson. I would like to embroider his initial inside the bag as well. Great tutorial. Thanks
I made custom dimensions and decided to add interfacing to the outside layer, but otherwise used your instructions for my tote bag and I’m so happy with the results. Thank you for this tutorial!
How do you add interfacing what does that help with?
@@jailynallen9891 you just cut it to the same size as your outside layer and iron it onto the wrong side of the fabric. It's not neccesary, but just a personal preference to help give the bag a little stiffness and body.
Gives cotton more body for a bag vs stiffer upholstery fabric.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
I just saw this video about a month ago and have made about 7-8. Sew easy, I love it
awesome!!
This will be my first sewing project and this was so thorough for my ADHD brain, who has a hard time with instructions! Thank you!

What type of iron are you using? Do you use steam or a dry iron? I can never seem to get my iron hot enough :(
Thank you ❤🇬🇧💯
The first one I made came out great. Then I made one with pockets. I kept the right sides together….the pockets, but then they ended up being on the wrong side of the lining 😖. Time for the seam ripper…
Ah sorry! Seam ripper time... :)
Thanks
Excellent thanks 🎉❤

Quick question if you do not have a iron what else can someone use to iron? We just moved into our house not to long ago and do not have a iron yet lol
Hi - you can also press with your fingers or a finger pressing tool :)!
How many yards of fabric would you recommend for each piece ? 1 yard for each 2 squares ?
You could cut all 4 panels out of 1 yard or 2 1/2 yards :)
Waooo
So interesting
Appreciate you 🧵✅
Nice one
thank you!
Maybe a dumb question, but doesn’t cutting the squares from the corners then leave you with loose thread that doesn’t have a backstitch?
Never a dumb question! Yes it does but when you sew the corners again you will sew over those original seams so that they are locked in place again. Hope that helps!
That would be great to learn how to do a zipper on the bag!
great idea!
I made mine like this but it was reversible
Thank you!
You're welcome!
The secion on the straps is very confusing. I have never seen anyone sew it diagonally. Also, why would you have extra fabric left. I've only made one bag but ...
What is the finished size of this tote?
Could you do this without putting two layers one inside the other couldn't you just put two layers of material and sew them and cut them all together and then turn the whole thing right side out
What if you're using just one long strap?
That might work - maybe sew it in the center? Or on the side seams? Good luck!
It is easy to follow you. However, it would be much better if you could remove the music. 😊
Dilinizi bilmediğim için, sizi anlamadım, keşke yazarak tarif etseydiniz...mesela ölçüleri nedir?
Ölçüler cm olarak verilse daha anlaşılır olur.

I agree
Grow up 😂
Get a life. Or don’t watch
Yes ! I agree. It is a bad idea for people who have hearing problems and wear hearing aids.
I'd leave the opening on the side. Music is very annoying!
Why wouldn’t you just cut 2 x 24 inches pieces for the handles instead of mucking around with all that extra fabric and having an unnecessary join. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
I don’t know why such you tubers put a background music when they are explaining something ? This is just nonsense and distracting.
💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
Use the clips- not pins- otherwise it’s ok-Thanks
Wash fabric first

Why is there music playing in the background? It's very annoying. I won't subscribe.
