    Two medias that fit this at least in my opinion is Hellsing and Postal. Hellsing has that religious counterculture. A vampire named Alucard fighting other vampires, Nazis, and The Vatican. Manga, OG TV Show and Ultimate version. Postal the visuals. Religious theming to demonic overtones. May not seem like it, but in Postal 1 and 4, especially 1. From the hellish writings to the demonic appearance and heavy rock music. It definitely has that Demonpunk feel. Loading screens, scythe and sickles being weapons Postal Dude uses in official art. To the sounds and the demon voice/ wings Postal Dude has. And has slight overtones in it.
    Thanks for making this video. Always been obsessed with this aesthetic but sadly it never had a name. I'd check anime for more examples. I listed Hellsing but Beserk too. Even slight aesthetic designs of characters like Stain or Goblin Slayer can give that feeling. Just not the political Undertone.

    I think a common character archetype in this kind of genre is what I would call “the slayer.” The doom slayer, Gutz from berserk, Kratos, Asura from Asura’s wrath. They all embody a character that defies the wills and desires of gods and those that would wish to be gods. Their own will power being the strength required to literally reshape the world at times. It’s a bit of a hyperfixation of mine

    I think the stories, aesthetics and overarching themes of both Diablo, three and Path of Exile one and two, fit the demon punk sub genre, pretty well. They both have themes of the angelic, and the demonic, seating the mortal world, and warming its way into reality outside of their own. Path of exile, especially as strong ties with this, I think because of the ancient cultures that utilize demonic blood sacrifices, and ancient other worldly technologies, alternately to their ruin.

  • @implozia1360
    @implozia1360 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Idk, I envision this a lot more "religion" related than merely a status quo. If we are still doing IRL relations, then demons don't exactly exist, we can only become them in opposition.
    And humans only embraced a title such as "demon" when faced with paranormal powers or in relation to one's spirit, rather than, say, political. I know religion tends to go political, as well. Not only that, but "demon" is used to explain a lot of mythological creatures besides christianity. Yo-kai are very loosely demons. Buddists have their own. So the term is already very loose.
    So if I already explained my thinking on "demon", and punk is anti-establishment, to me it seems that our goal is to demolish any single "central" religion to dominate. Anti-the established religion, so to speak. This could support the change for 2 ends: no religion, or many scattered sects/cults.
    The very first Bayonetta does exactly this, to then do it again in the second game, even subdoing the very demons she "controls" (rather, is a contract) to rescue Jeanne. At the end of the first game, Bayonetta is one of the last 2 remaining Umbral Witches. Her status in an "establishment" is lost.
    So the changes required to make this "punk" or "alt" also exist. And to top it all off, she isn't a god, therefore an "established" power. She is but a rogue.
    I am not sure if Kratos entirely counts, as he is a god of the Greek pantheon, however! He does count in the games based on Norse mythology. No power to speak of (at the beginning at least), not of the pantheon, and no longer part of the establishment, to explain the change necessary to explain this as "punk" or "alt" in relation to the rest of the context. Not sure if this counts either, but maybe Legacy of Kain potentially?
