- Have I found the perfect tow vehicle and perfect convertible in one IAA walk around video? I'll ive you a 1992 Mercedes 500SL review, a 2008 Lexus GX470 review and a 2002 Lexus ES300 review! We'll talk about a Mercedes 500SL restoration, the Lexus GX470 tow capacity, and the Lexus ES300 reliability. I'm really interested in the 500SL. Do you think it would be a good addition to the channel??

Did anyone else catch that Mike opened the gas fill door on the GX instead of the hood release? Mike, you even went back and closed the gas fill door without realizing what you did. Always enjoy your content...keep up the great work.

That SL looks rough but at least doesn't have the biodegradable wiring harness.

Either one of the Lexus cars would work! Mike...you REALLY need to carry a charged jump box with you! Seeing and hearing cars run will really add to your videos.

The SL would be good for the channel. You could spend some time mechanically evaluating it and fixing it up, then make a decision whether it makes sense to spend money on paint and cosmetics. Also, imagine the looks you’d get driving around town with the top down, Lola in the passenger seat, and the duck supervising things from the package shelf.
As a surprise for your followers, you can grab one of those Lexuses, it will be a nice variation from the regular Benz and BMW on the channel.
Yeah Mike… you pulled the “wrong “ lever to open the hood… but 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️the M B… you know that’s your thing,and you’re getting better at restoring them.. you may even have some needed bits for it… all for the RIGHT price of course..

I love the lexus I'd drive that to the moon and back its a beautiful car and I personally would love to see it on your channel the maroon is a very nice colour
The reason for the nipples on European cars is usually on the glass lenses . the proper way to use the tool to align the headlamps attached to the three nipples ! Some times four ? But on volvos mbenz and BMW it was a tripod type device that attached to those to set the last ,right ,up and down to particular settings !
Hello Mike aka Monkey Wrench Mike. The 2002 Lexus XC is a good looking car even though there is damage on the back bumper. The 2005 Lexus ES is a good looking car even though it's got damage on the drivers back side.
If I was stateside and can get to Tulsa, I would pick up that 02 Lexus ES 300 in a heartbeat. There's a slight buckle on the trunk lid apart of the damage you pointed out. Only thing I'm a little concerned is the coolant bottle. Looks like it may have overheated or has a damaged/leaking cap.
Mike, my GX470 has 500,000 miles. All original powertrain etc. Can't beat 'em.

I have an identical 2005 ES330 in old man tan. Was my dad’s. He passed away 2 years ago and mom gave it to me. 63,000 miles when I got it. 77,000 miles now. I drive it every day.
The electric seat adjustment on the R129 may not work because the connectors under the seat are loose or corroded. Happens often with these vehicles. If he's cheap give him a go Mike! Greetings from Germany ; )

The lexus would be a nice change. The engine is dependable, but is a timing belt engine. This is on the camry frame.

The Lexus SUV sounds great!!! It's interesting because I'm in Puerto Rico and we've just had a bunch of cars......... I would believe from Florida and the hurricane that happened several years ago hitting our used car market. There was lots of this type of vehicle.
I do believe a Lexus for something a little different might be interesting but definitely something without a major project because I think you have enough of those.............. keep Safe!!!!

That ES300 was my first Lexus. Nice car but the transmission was a bit iffy. You should buy that old merc it's great.

Mike, you pulled the wrong lever on that GX470. You pulled fuel door release, not the hood.

Oof - I'd stay away from that R129 personally (and I'm an R129 lover). You can get a nice example for dirt cheap - market values for them are in the toilet. 92 has the CIS-E as you showed, with the fuel distributor. If you had to get the M119 engine, I would get one with LH. The color on that one is 199 Blauschwartz. If you do buy it, you'll have to look at all the top hydraulics along with the cosmetic issues you saw. It's hard to find good condition door cards for the 1990-1995 style 😭

Mike, look at the driver rear tire on the Mercedes, it appears to be pointed inward looks like it hit something on the underside.
Mike, you popped the fuel door on the GX which is right next to hood release......You never popped the hood.

Hmm...maybe not pre 1994 SL. Not only the hydraulics for the top probally needs rebuilt the wire harness is another issue, and for 1992 fuel distributor ie Bosch CIS fuel system are pain in the ass to deal with too
Double check that the main harness was replaced they are bio degradable and almost impossible to find. Other than that it’s a great car I have a 1997 with the Pano 55k miles
The rear drivers side wheel looks bent inward on the 500 SL.

Ironically, the R129 (1990+) can be bought dirt cheap compared to the R107, especially the 86-89 560SL! The R129 has never had the respect of the 560! The early R129 had evaporator problems when new which required dash removal! MB quietly approved many warranty claims from furious owners!

You Americans would love to own a pickup truck!? Here in Europe they are rare. Here in Sweden, the big seller is a station wagon or an SUV. With the Lexus, you can tow, fold the seats and drive spare parts. We think a pickup truck is big and clunky and uses a lot of gas. If we drive a lot of waste and other things, then we have a small trailer. You drive a Mercedes, be a little more European!👍😎
