    Tobias' vocals are not what you would expect with a rock act. Clean, melodic. You will get used to it! You should hear him in acoustic sessions. Outstanding.
    I'm surprised you started with Zenith! It's been a hidden track and unavailable for years, except on one user TH-cam upload. Ghost fans have wanted this for years. It's finally been made available.
    Ok, here's lesson 1. Ghost is pretty much one man's project. He was anonymous from 2010 till 2016. He played the character of Papa Emeritus I for the first album, Papa Emeritus II for the second; then Papa Emeritus III for the Meliora album. All completely different characters, wearing a prosthetic mask... This song (Zenith) came out on a special edition of Meliora, but nowhere else, in about 2016, and hasn't been on streaming services till now. Yes I agree, it has a Blue Oyster Cult vibe.
    Since then, Papa III was replaced by Cardinal Copia for the Prequelle album. He was in turn promoted to Papa Emeritus IV at a concert (or 'ritual') in 2020, and in 2022 the Impera album was released, which has an '80s arena rock vibe.
    The man behind all this is a Swedish guy, Tobias Forge, he is a master songwriter, and in person is completely different to what you would expect! At the start, he wanted someone else to sing (he was a guitarist) but ended up doing it himself. Ghost's catalogue has pop/rock, hard rock, metal, prog/rock, it varies so much. It doesn't fit into a genre. And the backstory or 'lore' is funny, and very theatrical. The music is always super-catchy, and the lyrics are very deep and multi-layered. Tobias writes most of it, with some collaborators. On earlier material, he plays a lot of the guitar and bass.
    If you want a deeper dive, start with the track *Cirice* from Meliora. It won a Grammy.
    There endeth lesson # 1.

    I love everything about Ghost, the music has such a nostalgic, old metal feel to it and the band lore is such a fun and funny way to hype it all up.

    Before Ghost started the singer was in a raw lofi death metal project called Repugnant. Pretty fun to check out since it's hard to imagine it's the same guy doing the vocals lol.
    He and former Ghost members also a more pop oriented project called Subvision.
    I see Ghost as being somewhere in between those two projects, although definitely more on the pop/rock side. You won't really hear any harsh vocals from them except in maybe the live version of Mummy Dust. They are often jokingly described as "Satanic Abba" because of this.

    For being the first track you ever heard from Ghost, you are quite spot on.
    Ghost have been around since 2006, realising their first (of five) album in 2010.
    Sometimes, they have an aura of Bluy oyster cult, and they have influences from Metallica. James Hetfield is a known Ghost fan also!
    It's hard to put them in a genre. It's metal, rock, and even pop in their sound. Tobias Forge, singer and mastermind of the band, is a fan of different genres himself. He has sung in a death metal band and even a pop band and, as a Swede he is, have influences from ABBA along with metal and 70's and 80's rock.
    This particular song is one of few songs that another in the band were participating in the song writing.
    Every album is very much different in styles but they have one in common. Really good and catchy tunes.
    If you like to, you have a really deep rabbit hole to dive into.
    I'll recommend you to listen to Cirice. It's from the same period in time as this song. This song were a special release and has not been on Spotify outside Sweden since the release in 2015.
    The meaning of the word Zenith is
    The meaning "the time at which something is most powerful or successful".
    And, the band is a satanic band. Even though the members say they are not satanists. It is more of a opposite pole of the Christian church, the Catholic one in particular. That's why he is dressed and looks like a pope with a skull painted face.

    • @GeorgeTheCloud
      @GeorgeTheCloud  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, wow I wasn't expecting to be listening to a satanic band, not sure how I feel about that since I'm Catholic. Thanks for your comment and observations. The meaning of Zenith is quite interesting, might have to start using it. Welcome to the Channel!

    • @absea7918
      @absea7918 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ghost is about as satanic as horror movies or Scooby Doo. They are critical of the Church, since Tobias (leader/mastermind) had a negative experience growing up. @@GeorgeTheCloud

      Fair enough.

    • @henrikvidin
      @henrikvidin 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The take on the satanic part. I'll see it more like a questioning on religion.
      And of course, it's bad habits in religion should be questioned.
      The song I recommended, Cirice, is about manipulation, in religion, disguised as a love song. I think you'll like it!

    The " Gregorian " chant you heard was actually Latin. Tobias uses a lot of Latin phrases in his songs. The chant in Zenith is, " Secula Seculorum " which translates to, unto the age of ages. I'm sure you'll see a lot of suggested songs to listen to. Ghost has it all. If you have Ghost you have everything. Not just a nice phrase but a song title as well.

    For me, Tobias's voice was the biggest draw to Ghost. I just can't get enough of listening to him. His voice is very versatile (check out Mummy Dust for a stark comparison), and melodic, and genuine, and raw, and I think his voice being the way it is is sort of one of the biggest things that makes Ghost so special.
