How odd... This Whelen is running on a Federal Signal UV, and is sounding hi-lo and alternate wail. It's rare for a MOD/DSA to be running these signals, so seeing a Whelen do them is even more rare.
OH MY GOSH! I LIVE NEAR THIS SIREN!! It only does a short alert now for about 45 seconds. I recorded the ambience from my house but I don't post them on TH-cam.
Awesome! I think first UV Whelen Hilo on YT and For sure the first Whelen UV Alternate wail! Almost sounds like an EOWS Except it does not go all the way down in Alternate wail
Like I said before in the other comments it is stupid to put in UV controller in a siren that's designed for low pitch tones this is too high in fact if it was very very high or make this high-pitched that's not good for your ears they be blown out in 5 hours or less
okay, thank you so much, I love the alternate wail tone but I don't like how high pitched it is, since whelens are more powerful than modulators does the higher pitch travel father?the largest modulator model available now is the 8032 and its 70db range is about 4200ft and in the modulator booklet it says that that is it effective range, and a whelen vortex's 70db range is about 5200ft but that is with a whelen tone, and id love to hear alternate and pulsed wail in a whelen 440htz and 560htz tone
Even though this is a vortex and can't do voice with whelen controls, could it do voice messagess since it has the ultra voice? And why do communities do this to whelens?
3 things. 1. Ignore my comment above, I was a stupid idiot back in 2020. Two, I believe they can. 3. My guess is so it can be activated with the same activation tones as the other sirens that specific community has. That's just my guess though...
TheJakeman789 ati makes them too, as much as they suck, they need a better alert tone. I swear I'm glad my county has 2001's, I cannot stand the crappy ati alert tone.
The fin are on the Whellen Vortexes but there not on the 4004 I think the fin is for decoration for the back but there 4004, 4008 and 3016 don’t have the fin present but the 4004 is literally the same thing as the vortex
@@triclamite I’m sure he knows that, I think he’s pointing out that it sounds like a 612 because SiraTone controllers and UV controllers sound very similar especially in Alt. Wail.
wolfmaster While most sirens have collector rings, whelen sirens have wires coming from their rotator boxes. If they have 360 degrees of rotation, then said wires will snap, rendering said siren useless.
Man, an Alternating Wail of an Federal Signal UltraVoice Controller on a Whelen Vortex Finback. Sounds like a fever dream, but it's true. It even have kinda vibes with Chicago's old siren system.
I literally just go into watching sirens today, so I'm a total amateur. But I'm hooked already! Why doesn't it spin all the way around? Also, can anyone tell me where to start learning about all the different kinds and stuff? Thanks!
A great place to learn where I spent most of my time when I was into the hobby is the Siren Board, can be found here: www.airraidsirens.net/forums/ Lots of great people that are very knowledgeable on the hobby chat there, and you can connect with them and learn so much.
This siren doesn’t have collector rings which helps the siren rotate all the way, so it isolates back and forth to prevent the wires from getting tangled up and snap.
FOR ANYONE WHO IS NEW TO THE COMMUNITY AND STUMBLES UPON THIS COMMENT: Older rotational Whelens(I'm talking about the 2000R like models) had conduction rings(my term). Newer Whelen Rotational models don't have that, instead they're hardwired. They use an oscillator. What this does is that it helps the siren not get the wires tangled up, and it stops in a specific position and switches direction. Like I said, this is for anyone new to the community.
THE ALTERNATE WAIL SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE FEDERAL SIGNAL MODULATORS! Yes I know the siren has a Federal Signal sound card and that’s why it sounds like a modulator or EOWS-612
One of the only times that I've ever liked to see an UltraVoice controller on a non-Federal Signal siren. I'm in love with the way how this sounds in those signals. When is this siren tested and where is it located?
That's a stupid that UV controllers can blow out of the drivers more easily seriously they're not supposed to take high-pitched tones I don't know why they put the UV controller in there but it sounds like a federal signal modulator and I really like the Echoes from the background
Some reasons why communities might choose a third party product (the UV in this case) might be because they want a two-way radio system for feedback, original controls might have gone down the crapper, activation problems, or because it is probably the cheapest and most affordable upgrade kit for a tad quality. As far as voice goes for Vortexes, I've been asking that question to myself lately. I'm going to take a guess and say yes, but don't quote me on that.
The Killer Clown actually Monroe Co., Michigan put UV controllers on their Whelens to upgrade them to have them activate with their new Modulators. I think.
