I’m Fern! A 20-something gal living on beautiful Vancouver Island, Canada with my partner, our 2 dogs, and around 200 houseplants. Plants have changed my life - I love tending to them and sharing the joys and discoveries of my planty journey online. I am passionate about all things living and I have been vegan for over 5 years - it was the best decision I’ve ever made. For those into astrology, I am a gemini sun, scorpio moon, & libra rising. I know what it's like to go a couple rounds with someone, the painful awkwardness of still living with them after a break up and the fear and stress of looking for a new place to live. Whenever something seems so stuck, I always feel like it's because what's coming next for you isn't quite available yet. Fern..I am now 75 yrs. Old and I have to say that sometimes we do make better friends then a couple. You two have been very mature to recognize it as soon as you did. Just ended my 11 year relationship for the same reason.. 2 dogs 2 cats... but I found somewhere! You will too!! It's so hard but EXACTLY focus on the fun and the goals !!
For the rental: bake a cake and take it to the viewing- I know it’s effort but you’ll stick in their minds and more likely to put you forwards for the rental or they’ll feel guilty eating it.
The plants are stunning! And ignore that 0.01% as they’re not worth listening to. None of us are entitled to an opinion on your life anyway, but know that you’ve got so much support behind you and we love your content!

You’ve been through a lot this year! Every time in my life where things start going wrong I’ve noticed that everything comes back together in a way that almost seems like it was meant to be. The perfect place will come to you and at the end I’m sure it will all be worth it. You literally have a whole community of people cheering you on!
Oh I feel ya, in my town there’s literally 20 apartments available and that was last week so Im sure its dwindled, so many students coming in, and my rent just went up almost $100 and I’m working my butt off to make it, feeling like I have no down time cause it’s constantly stressed about one thing or another, you are not alone! I went through a similar thing with looking for places for 5 weeks until I finally got a place that was perfect for me. I would recommend trying to apply to landlords directly (through Gumtree, Facebook marketplace or private listings) rather than through a real estate agent. Establishing a personal connection with the property owner can help if you are not the strongest applicant on paper. It really sucks how they will prioritise those with certain incomes or jobs, but the property manager who helped me get my apartment said that high income doesn't mean compliance with the rental agreement! You are intelligent, kind and have a wonderful vibe and any landlord meeting you would be thrilled to have you and Olive as a tenants. Your strength and bravery is inspiring, as I know how scary and stressful it is to be in a limbo of unknowns- especially coupled with a breakup. I feel like the universe is holding out something amazing, and it will happen soon ❤ Sending the biggest hug from Australia ❤

Every rental I have gotten was through private people. Not property management companies. There was always too many folks compete for a place.
Yes, you didn't have to tell us this, so why do you feel the need to put your personal business in the street??? I truly don't mean this to be offensive or hurtful at all, but I come here to here about plants, NOT someone's personal business, as that's what Facebook is about. I enjoy yours, and other women's plant vids, but more and more I have to suffer through a ton of person psycho-babble just to hear a tiny bit about plants... PLEASE keep personal business personal, or for your patrons. And allow plant vids to be able plants. I truly hope you take this as constructive, as it was intended, and not offensive.

Re housing...if you're looking for a place in a city with a lot of Universities, just wait a bit if you can. August is usually the toughest time to find a place (because of all the students moving and looking), and it gets easier after in Sept and Oct. Also, I'm not an advocate for lumping people together, especially to hate on them, but landlords are trash. Profiting off of others basic needs for shelter (which also drives up prices and making it more expensive to buy a home) is wrong.
I don't break the root ball either ; ) I have anxiety too, and I understand the stress of the unknown. Things will work out, and soon this part will just be a memory...xo

You need a frosting spatula. I use them to get the plant out of terracotta pots by gently sliding it down the side of the pot. It makes it sooo easy when they are stuck!

I love how we had the same planty journey in a way. I had all terracotta pots too and learned that clear plastic pots were the way to go over time. I am glad you are in a happy place now Fern I haven’t watched all your videos, so I am missing pieces of your life story and that is okay. In the States it is quite easy to get a letter from your doctor to state that you need your pet as an emotional support animal and renters that dont typically accept pets cannot deny you based on your pet. I wish you all the best Fern! You may not see it now, but looking back at these trying times it will seem like a blessing in disguise. Just keep your heart open! ❤️ PS - My chihuahua loves my new boyfriend 😉
About finding a place to rent. I’m in Florida and 66 years old. I can’t afford where I’m renting now and have been looking with no luck. 5 year waiting list to get into any affordable housing. I’m scared when my lease is up that I won’t be able to stay here at all. I already have someone buying my groceries. I’m on a fixed income. Praying you will find a nice place.❤️

You'll love Victoria. Vancouver Island is so gorgeous. The little jaunts to the Gulf Islands or San Juan's are fun, too. You might love working at Butchart Gardens as well. You've got a talent and you're personable. If you ever want a trip to the desert, I'm in Tucson. I owned a nursery for many years (Washington state), long time plant guy. You would definitely have a stress break in the desert. I built a guest house on purpose, so I invite people I know or who interest me to come visit. Heated pool and the works. I'm also a photographer, but while shooting is available if it's fun for you, it is not a requirement. I am new to your channel. I probably should try to find a more recent post to see what's up, but this is fairly recent so I thought I'd reach out.

Renting right now is the worst and so expensive ☹️ is it possible for you to get your dog as an emotional support animal? You’d be allowed to live somewhere that says no pets. Or just not have to pay for pet rent at a place that does and it helps save a fortune 💕 if u can I would try! It’s super quick to obtain
i know your pain.. my ex had to be enlightened about his problems and cheating.. i am now living here to be able to keep my cats and corgi.. and 200 plants..

I could tell something was up. Sorry your getting negative comments. It's brave to talk about it and hope you get to have your fresh start. Think sometimes we all need that and I wish I could have the same but financially not able to. In the same boat relationship wise, going through a break up about roughly the same time line. But not the moving thing which is stressful and emotionally draining. We are all holding thumbs you find your place to call home.

Literally one of the hardest parts I experience ending relationships is missing their dog or my dog missing them 😥😥
Moving (over an hour away- would be further, but I'd be too far from family though) is the best decision I ever made to "recover" from heartbreak that just would not heal. It's not about running away, but about creating new memories. Thank you for sharing!
I live in Victoria and I feel you so, so hard with the state of the rental market here. I would recommend the building I live in in Fairfield, but its not pet friendly :( Wishing you all the best, Victoria will be lucky to have a rad person like you living here.
First time watcher. Consider opening your search to other cities and leaving your dog with your ex. It might be better for her to not leave that house and leave him. This way she only has only one change.
