Birkenhead at its most alive and vibrant not like today - it’s just wasteland and industrial areas now. How did the town Planners get away with it ? It was a crime to break up communities and I feel sad to see the town now. I loved watching this it brought back so many memories.

Nice Video Jayne, my grandmother had the Shamrock Inn from ?1944 - 1971. Betty Freeman. As a student nurse we used to go to the Pacific on a Friday night to listen and dance to the 'A Team' blues band, happy days.
I used to live in Vittoria Court, right next to the Sea Dog pub, and went to school (Cathcart Primary) in the late 60s to 70s, I used to have a friend named Bernard Lively, and his Nan or auntie lived above the Shamrock Inn, so I was there a few times in the living quarters upstairs, I remember the old lady who was most probably your gran, I'm 56 now, Bernards' mum used to serve behind the bar in the pub, one of my best memories was his mum shouting to us to come into the bar because Steve Highway (the Liverpool football player) was having a drink there, and we were allowed to meet him and say hello, coz I was a mad Liverpool fan, and she gave us a glass of shandy, great memories, were you related to Bernard Lively by any chance?
@@rollacoastaride1937 Hey Rolla, Bernard was my brother, he left us 4 years ago :(, and Val is my mother. I vaguely remember Cathcart St school, Bernie had a friend called Tommy Cooper, I think. My grandmother used to brag that she rented the very first 24" colour TV in the Shammy. I'm a couple of years younger than you and Bernie so memories are vague
