🚨The Ultimate Hiking Guide to Carauntoohil, Ireland: www.natashabergen.com/irelandguide 💪This is perfect for you if you want to save time and be fully prepared for a new Irish hiking journey! Happy adventures friends!
It's nice to be nice, you have a lovely open attitude, please visit again. And yes, you were extremely lucky with the day you picked for that introduction to Ireland's highest 😂
Very cool. I'm Irish from Waterford (founded by Norwegian Vikings!) I am glad you enjoyed your time in Ireland. I feel ashamed that I've never been to Carrauntoohill. Kerry is very beautiful and magical place and every landscape there is like a painting.
The devil's ladder is definitely not easy, but on our way up we encountered a 70 year old gentleman who had just summited in 2 hours 15 minutes! I liked your video, you have a new subsciber!
I never tried going up the Devil's Ladder, but came down it once. Beautifully done video. Thank you for your kind mentions of Ireland and her people. WE NEED MORE WALKERS!!! They understand things properly.
Its not even close to being a high mountain (36th highest in Europe) but it is so technical. It has claimed many lives over the years. Be proud of your achievement.
Celebrating you and your journey all the way over here in the US! Thank you for bringing us along for the journey - it's so powerful to watch you find your way and persevere. One of my favourite moments of the video is when you included the part of you talking to yourself to keep your head in the right headspace. As a fellow TH-camr I know it can feel sort of vulnerable to leave stuff like that in but I'm so grateful that you do. I hiked on the Appalachian Trail for 8 weeks here in the US (don't know how many hundreds of miles I ended up doing) but throughout that experience, talking to myself and watching my mind was the HUGEST thing and it's great that you include that part of this journey because it's so real! Thank you for what you're doing, so inspiring! 💛 Sending love from the Southwest US
Thanks lovely! I appreciate all the support and yeah super weird to show that I’m talking to myself but it helps to say it out loud sometimes 😊 Sounds like you had a wicked time on the Appalachian 💛
When you're in the middle of a tough climb, those 'out loud' motivational phrases are as important as your hiking boots, they focus the mind for the next careful step, I do it all the time! 😁
Go on ya girl yee! good on you 👏🏻 I am from the North of Ireland near Belfast and you will will have to come back and climb Slieve Donard up in the Mourne mountains. It is not as high as carrauntoohil but just as rewarding. I am a tour guide around Ireland Scotland and Wales, you should do Ben Nevis and Snowdon as well as Donard. If you are coming let me know and I can help you out. Great channel ❤ wish you all the best Slàinte agus Go n-eirí an t-ádh leat 🤗
Thank you! Lovely to feel the positivity!! Defo will be heading back, and soon! I had to add Northern Ireland to the list after I experienced so much beauty the first time 🤩 It’s as if you’re reading my mind, I’d also like to do the 3 peak challenge 😁 I’ll be sure to reach out 🙌
That mountain is a good hour walk to the base and then you climb not too difficult in good conditions but when the rain bad weather and snow comes… Anyway lovely climb. Especially in summer.
Very nice Video !! There is an annual race up and down Carrauntohill starting and finishing at Cronin's Yard and going up and down the Zig Zags. I have done the race four times but have never gone up the Devils Ladder- after watching your video, I think I will challenge myself to do the Devil Ladders so thank you !!
Just seeing this and delighted to find you have a growing channel with lots of content. Binging shall commence in short order. Fair play climbing that beast. I'll have to give it a go next year. Good luck on the rest of your adventure!
Wow, Excellent Work!!! its like all Mountains i suppose, you need to climb/trek them in good weather, but that said you might head off in lovely weather but it can change rapidly. its a tick in your book of achievements for sure!
Thanks for this. Will be doing this route towards the end of March. Very insightful and really, really enjoyed your personable video and narration. Well done 👍
Hi.What a wonderful video. Thanks for sharing with us.I enjoyed it very much. Hope to see more from your channel soon. Have a great day. Greting from Danmark.
love your video and Irish Mountains. I'm from Donegal and can I recommend Errigal and Muckish via the miners path . Stunning Mountains just like Carauntoohil. Errigal is Irelands most iconic mountain IMHO . Subscribed !
I love the "motivational coach" comment about the fellow climbers. I was up at the weekend and everybody was encouraging eachother and chatting and making eschother laugh. You don't get that anywhere else. I did no training at all, am a stone overweight and I flew up the ladder and to the peak, but am in bits 4 days later.
@@NatashaBergen Hi, I did the "Horse Shoe" trail ... did a 360/3D visualization , about 20-50 m stops/ 15, including all thre tops of the Ireland. I am now allaready processinbg the photogramerty and data in my graphic stations , will be ready for the use with HMD (Head mounted diplay) or "just" internet virtual walk until next January. I had a luck with clear weather most of time, only at the Bones was a short time foggy. Had a great time and returning in April/May to visualize the Kerry way (200 + km) and Beara Way. I also completed a 360/3D virtual tour of the "Star Wars Island" - Skellig Michael.
I climbed carauntoohil via the devil's ladder in wet conditions with my brother back in 2013, wearing only trainers and carrying my tripod, leaving me with only one hand for grabbing rocks. It wasn't so bad, but on the way down I realised there was an easier but longer way to the left lol...you got great weather, when I got to the summit it was covered in cloud
@@NatashaBergen I got some shots but nothing spectacular, was too misty for good photos. I read that you intend to climb all the high European peaks, so I guess you will tackle mount blanc at some stage? That is a great project, you will have many adventures along the way, I will follow your channel from time to time and see how you get on, in the mean time good luck my friend :)
@@zenith7024 brilliant but even sometimes the cloud can be nice 😁 Yup you got it, Mont Blanc in a few months if all goes planned and there are some bigger ones I’ll go on to do as well 😁 Thanks for joining in! Maybe I’ll see on a path someday 😊
@@NatashaBergen yes that's true but in Ireland we have too many clouds lol...ye you never know when we could cross paths, in the mean time good luck with the next peak my friend, all the best :)
Great video! Done Carruntoohil back in 2016. Pretty experienced hiker at that point and had done all the peaks here beforehand (I'm from here!). I was a bit cocky on it going up tbh. I was training for 3 peaks challenge in UK - was fit and mentally ready etc. Went up the ladder decent time. But made the mistake of going down it aswell. Slipped and broke my ankle.! Slipped a good 6-7 feet and landed on left ankle and just knew something was wrong. My mate from work was with me. Had to go down parts of it on my arse but got down. Went back to the B and B in Annascaul (Across the road from the South Pole inn) Another reason why I wanted to go! I'll do it again soon. Always swore I would never go back but I will! Different route though!
HOLY SHIT MATE! I’m sitting here drinking my coffee and nearly spilt it while reading! I can’t believe it 😬 Ouf I feel the pain, yikes! Good thing you were with someone else eh? BUT all that said I’m glad you wanna go back again - that shows grit! I’ve heard O’Shea’s Gully is a great route too! Let me know how it goes when you conquer it next time, I’m routing for yah! 😁
This makes me so happy. You killed that hike!! For the first section of it, I was really curious why people are known to get hurt on that one, it looked like a really easy and peaceful hike!! Until that devil's ladder, that made it make sense lol
Wow that is so beautiful. Been invited and never been. Wanted to. The nearest I have been is Islay in Scotland and I never wanted to go home. Love it. Born in London. But f**k flags I'm child of the universe. 🤠❤👍🙏
You are really good. I had sweaty hands only by seeing you climbing up. But you know what, I saw the other way how to get there, which is Brother O'Shea's Guly and it looked even more dangerous. I think the most safe (from those three) is Caher Route even though it is little bit longer.
@@NatashaBergen Great video. I go up Carrauntoohill about twice every year, always up & down the Devil's Ladder. Was there on Monday this week, amazing day / full sunshine all day, but I fell twice on the way back down the Ladder, and nearly fell a few more times. It has become too unstable in that gully, especially near the top. Zig zags next time for me 🙂
Exactly what I was thinking. I'm doing this again over the Summer and I understand it's mostly covered in clouds. That's been my experience of the Reeks anyway.

Waterford founded by the native Irish. Foreigners built some houses

Thanks Paul! Will be in your neck of the woods next year!

I've AS and I did it three years ago, stopped a few times on the devils ladder for a smoke 😅
Such a nice video of your outdoor adventure and a great source of inspiration for my hikes in the Balkan mountains in the coming weeks ;)

Hehe you’ve got a good ear! Defo Canadian! 🤩
Congratulations. Best regards
Hello, how are you? Love your videos are you ever coming back to Ireland to do more walks I have so many questions as a beginner Walker
For sure will be coming back! Plan to this year 😄

Discretion is the better part of valour...
After all, why the Crown of Europe and not another continent?
Because I live here 🙌 It's more affordable than flying to another continent all the time
I asked because I have the same problem. Good luck and I hope you conquer all the peaks soon.
