They desperately wanted to believe Tōsen was brainwashed or misguided, never considering that the Soul Society could be at fault. They always wanted to believe it was all Aizen's doing and never looked into Tōsen's past to understand his reasons for leaving. I would of loved to see him in a support role against Gerard where his new bankai is the only one that’s physically strong enough to hold Gerard down while the others hack him down. Imo I think with this new form he is way too strong for the non elite sternritter (except gremmy) but would fit perfectly in an assist role against an elite sternritter like I just mentioned.
