PearFleur when I was beginning to gain an interest in fully doing art your videos made me admire and love watercolor paintings. From that day on I bought my first official art supplies being arches water colors and I slapped those bad boys on a green plate and started to paint. After two good years only painting in my house I got one of my Altoids tins and bought Windsor and newton watercolor six pack and my favorite arches paints and made a travel container. Although I’ve slowed down on watercoloring I still claim it as my favorite medium!

Just a regular old chewed on school #2 pencil is what I had first, then a set of crayola pencils, then balm lots more over the years. I’ve stuck with watercolor because of the versatility and gouache too. :)

PearFleur every since I was a kid I used a pencil for everything until about 3 years ago I really tried to take Acrylic paint and learning how to use it seriously. It was honestly not that easy because mixing colours and getting the right amount was pretty difficult, but I got used to it eventually. Now I’m testing out Watercolours cause the challenge of using it just makes me want to try it out even more.

Solenne Cortes i had that same problem i would end up with too much of one mixed color i figured later on that i could freeze it. Which is great because i loved the color i made and didnt want it to go to waste

The very first art supply I had was probably that big art kit -- you know those children art kits that had small markers, color pencils, a palette of watercolors and crayons all together. I was probably 6 years old when I first received it, and I can say that receiving that art kit served as the key in opening the doorway for love my for art! I remember using the supplies in that kit so much, that I actually used up everything! 😆 12 years after having recieved that kit, I'm still in love with art, and especially with watercolor :)

My first art supply was a peace of broken brick (is it an art supply?), I drew along the small path in my village (with my friends). It's really fun :)). After that, my mother took me to a bookshop in the town and bought me pencil, rubber and crayons (they were not good quality at all :( ) but i also would thanks my mother alots because she did everything for me. Now, I still only use normal and cheap art supplies (because i live in the countryside). But I think it's no problem if i have my own passion. Maybe this difficulty can help me to create something different.
I think I would love to try some art supplies which were showed in your videos because it's so great and I have never try them.

After watching your blue monochrome video, I decided that after a lifetime of *never* touching art, I need to try watercolors. I went to the only art store I knew and purchased simple acrylic brushes and the most simple, childish, brandless watercolor palette. I did the trick :) Now about 4 months later I'm still water coloring and getting better everyday. Thank you for inspiring.
P.S your Celtic painting is my wallpaper 😉

BEAMEAM haha don't worry I'm still relatively bad at it, but I am seeing small improvements everyday. Maybe try better watercolor brushes, and focus on painting things that u believe u can succeed in. Each time try something a bit more complicated.

Love the idea to have everyone talk about their first experiences! I don't know if this counts, but the earliest memories I have are from all of us kids on block getting hyped up because a neighbour was doing construction work and we would take the leftover bricks and dried plaster and use them as chalks to paint all over the pavement. It was so much better than the super bad quality watercolours we used at school. I remember hating watercolours as a kid but loved all other kind of paints and after not being very successful with acrylics I switched back to watercolour not long ago thanks to your lovely videos and some other awesome artists'. I now enjoy my mission gold watercolours (thank god for amazon).
Thanks for bringing up such fun childhood memories! Anyone else with me on painting over pavements? :D

I remember yeah I used to do that as a kid probably at 6 or so, I loved covering the sidewalks with chalk and those pieces of bricks too. But I don't remember if I was more into writing or drawing on them at that time, it was super fun though also the walls of my room were a mess too

Once there was this construction work was going was going on in one of the nearest buildings, so we used left over sand and calcium carbonate mixture that is used to white wash( I don't know what are they called in English lol), to draw cats and my pet dog on the concrete roads and the just dried tar coated terrace. And my friends and I sat and breathed in the tar and basked in the art we made on the late afternoons in summer hehe.

Technically my first art supply came from my brothers ex girlfriend. He was in a long term relationship with an artist (I still use the tips she gave me when it comes to sketching from life). I remember she gave me and my other older brother a couple of water colour crayons. I'm pretty sure they were daler rowney. They were boxes of 5 colours, i think? A dark, haunting green, blue, yellow, tan/sepia and somethibg else. I say the green was haunting because I still see them around the house, no matter whatever I'm doing. A five year old really didnt know what to do with them but lordt, the underneath of our table (my chosen canvas) still bares the scars of the true chained soul of an artist. I think I still have a couple drawings but those sticks will always be the mortal enemy of my childhood.

Its so amazing to see how much you have grown as an artist! I’ve always loved your sketches, watercolor paintings, and even your miniature clay. Your art and just the vibe to your videos bring so much peace and inspiration to me and I am really looking forward to seeing you go bold and beyond with your Art and into inspiring so many others like myself. With the help of your experience my first ever art supply was actually polymer clay haha. Id try to create the miniature pastries that I wasn’t to good with but really did enjoying making. Eventually I got more into painting and ive always loved paintings before but was always to scared to try it because I feared mine wouldn’t be as good as others. I learned though that art isn’t meant to be as good as others or even slightly similar, its for creating our own piece or connecting with one another through our creations. Thats what ive come to learn and appreciate.

I remember in middle school not having enough money to get any art supplies so I asked my art teacher if I could take a crayola watercolor palette Home. She said yes and that’s where my art journey really started I stayed up every night painting anything that came to mind. When high school came around I wanted to join the art department of my school and my mother said no telling me I could never be successful in the arts. I did a year of health science it was the most stressful and depressing time of my life. I had one art class as an elective. I looked forward to the hour of art I got to do. My art teacher became my closest friend she was a mother to me. She urged me to focus on art my sophomore year and I agreed to switch. I came home after my freshman year and told my mom I’m dropping out of the health science program to join fine arts. Now Ive graduated high school and focus on mostly photography and rarely have time to do any painting. I want to get back into it so badly I remember how peaceful I felt when I painted.

The first time I clearly remember of doing art, was when I was around 9-10 years old, my parents bought me one of those paintings with numbers, where each number corresponds to a coloured paint! i was hooked on to it for hours. ive always wanted to try watercolours as they seem less of a mess than regular paints, and ive seen so many beautiful art pieces from many artists using watercolour!

when i was 5, i saved up my pocket money (50 cents a week) to buy a $3 set of chalk, which had pink, white and blue colours. i think i drew on every driveway in the street. i loved horses at the time and i would try to draw a horse and give it a name for every house (very small street). but some ended up with dogs. my mum said that at the time the neighbours were very confused but told them it was me and some of my neighbours even gave me old art supplies that they used to use, including my very first set of watercolours. i have been hooked on art ever since.

My first ever art supply was oil pastels. I used to use them when I was a kid and surprisingly I was very good at using them. But when I grow up I started hating them coz there were other better mediums than that. I kind of miss my old artistic childhood days. When we get new expensive better art supplies we kind of forget our old ones, but we can still draw with our old ones. I would want to go back to my old supplies and use them again and try to have fun.

I can't remember the first ever art supply, but I do remember the first I tried since I started doing art again. I stopped when I was maybe 11, because I started comparing myself to others, and I thought I wasn't good enough. Then my mother bought me a set of Winsor & Newton watercolours two years ago, and I was hooked! It started out with the basic set of 12 colours, and I now own about 24. It's a real treat watching you paint, and someday I hope I have even the slightest of your talent!

My first experience with creating art, that I can remember, was with watercolours. (I definitely made wild scribbles that looked like nothing with coloured pencil before that, but I have no recollection of it and only know this because my mum kept them all on the fridge, bless her.) But watercolours was and still is my dads favourite medium, so naturally he taught me how to paint with them. He used to read me his favourite fairytales and afterwards we would sit down and paint images inspired by the stories. I wasn’t very old and my skills weren’t as good but he always told me how much he loved my drawings and encouraged me to keep practicing and get better. We made a whole little book inspired by fairytales that he still has at home. Your painting actually kind of reminds me of one of the stories. 💛

I have anxiety and often get panic attacks, and I’ve come to the realization that painting, colouring, sketching and all these things brought peace into my heart. I’ve never owned a colouring kit not have I been able to purchase a nice one. I use ones that I found in my old pencil cases ever since I was a child, and although they are not the best, they have helped me quite a lot and I think I want to go back to drawing and painting. My first art medium was gouache! As a child, it was so fun to sit every Sunday afternoon and paint! It was such a great activity that, as I got older, started to put aside for other things. Thankfully, I have started slowly to reincorporate it in my life and I am only beginning to realize how therapeutic it is for the mind and how nourishing it is for the soul. I am now exploring for the first time watercolours and discovering the fun intricacies of its character :) Thank you for the inspiration and guidance you infuse in your videos :)

My first art supply was probably a regular pencil (the ones they sell at the store for "going back to school”) and I used it in a book, that I still have, that my mother gave me about "How to draw birds step by step." It was a book of exotic or amazon (the Amazon forest) birds in which I fell in love with. I remember not wanting to fill in the lines of the birds but rather, I grabbed a separate sheet of paper and drew on it from there. I didn't want to ruin the book by adding my linework and still till this day, it is almost intact. This was back in the 80's.
On a side note: I am here cooking while I was watching your video. I do that most of the times 😀with videos.
Thanks again and ready for more of your content.

My very first art supply (which I don’t even think qualifies as an art supply) was my mother’s old makeup. When I was about two and a half to about three, I would wait until my parents went to sleep and would draw on printer paper with cheap lipstick crusty mascaras, dull eyeliners, and brown nail polish. And almost every single time I felt artsy and made an entire mess, I would leave it for my parents to clean in the morning (not on purpose though). To be honest I think the lipstick was my favorite because of how soft it glides on the paper.
But I would love to try gouache, I’ve seen so many beautiful masterpieces made with it and I would love to try and make a masterpiece of my own.

I was about 3 years old when my brother introduced me to art. I always had a hard time expressing myself as a kid and he knew that I loved to go to museums and stare at the sculptures and beautiful painted canvases. It was the first time I ever tried to make my own art and was incredibly nervous. I drew a pretty decent picture of myself on an island alone with colored pencils that had a surprising amount of detail haha. I remember I wanted to have my own pet crab on the island and had the island itself almost come alive. It was my proudest moment and my parents made a magnet out of my very first drawing. Now I'm still in school to get my master's in Art Therapy because art became such a therapeutic constant that changed my life. I brought me out of dark times and gave me lessons that I never knew I could gain from from art.

While I know many people knew they had a love of art from when they were younger, that never really happened to me until I hit school and started my middle school compulsory art classes. Ever since then, I have fallen in love with so many different mediums. My favourites are oils & acrylics, and I have always been interested in watercolour and how it always seems to be so beautifully simplistic and have so much detail at the same time. My first medium I tried out I saw Kasey Golden doing watercolour art so I wanted to what she did. This was about 2 years ago and I searched up watercolour set and found the Koi Sakura watercolour sketch box and I asked my dad he really supported me in the art thing so he bought me it and I remember getting it and freaking out I showed everyone I knew and I started watercolouring and loved it ever since I still have it and it's old used and loved. (I love your work and so proud of you I wish you all best in the future!)

Actually the funny thing is that the very first art supply I tried was the exact same one you had in the video xD The SAKURA KOI was the very first piece of art supply I ever owned, I started drawing anime but got really tired of drawing sketches so my mum got me those fro my birthday. I never knew the beautiful things you could do with watercolors, and honestly never looked back I love how watercolors can make an art atmosphere change so much. I honestly never regretted using the sakura kois, still have my very first one with me, but since I got more use to watercolors began experimenting with other watercolor brands. But I could say if it was for my very first watercolor set, probably wouldn't of done traditional art ever. So I am hella glad I stuck to watercolors :)

I always always loved using watercolors and I've been using them ever since I could remember. It's always been quite the experience as a little child. I remember always being stunned by results even if they weren't really good executed xD coloring with watercolors has always been rewarding for me. When I was a kid, I had to put my little brother to sleep before I could paint with them, and now after a long day of school and work, it's still as rewarding for me.

As far as art in general I started with a simple pencil and pen. Some of my earliest memories were how I reeked havik on anything in sight. I couldnt fathom transitioning to color after using grafite for so many years, but eventually my love for watercolor blossomed! Love the piece!

The first medium that got me into art was just graphite and charcoal pencils or sticks, I had art lessons and the first things that we did were sketches and then we used coloured pencils. I haven’t used water colour for that long but, I first use Chinese brush painting ink and I made a few artworks with them. That’s what got me into watercolour and I love your work, it’s so beautiful and I watched your videos to learn and evolve as an artist, thank you so much for that :)

I have loved drawing for as long as I can remember. I think that when I was young I mostly used coloured pencils and some really cheap water colours once in a while. But one day I was helping my grandmother cleaning up her attic and we ran into her fathers paintings and art supplies. There was a watercolour palet with still a bit of paint in it and when I tried it out the colours were still beautiful. It is since then that I have been more sirious about painting. I ran out of paint though and I wasn't sure which brand to try out. I have heard about the koi watercolour sets before on other TH-cam channels too and I would love to try one of them out! 🎨

My first art medium, and still my favorite traditional method, is the typical graphite pencil on paper. I always enjoy free sketching or creating detailed realistic drawings. The first art medium I splurged on was Prismacolor pencils that I'd often use to add accent colors to my drawings. I have since also started inking and digital art, but I have always wanted to practice watercolor painting. I stumbled upon your video when I was searching for reviews on the Koi Watercolor Palette as a potential beginner starter kit. I appreciated your feedback on the palette and loved watching your painting process!

The first medium I tried out was markers! They still are really dear to my heart, but I am more of a watercolor kinda gal now. You can’t quite get the flatness of watercolors with many other mediums! I would love to try sculpting. I have tampered with it a little bit, but I’d like to actually look a bit deeper into the art.

The first time I got into drawing was by recreating catwalks looks I saw on the television, it was mostly about geometric and volume, but I really loved to make shades and texture by trying out different techniques: crayons, guache, Acrylic or even cutting pieces of my own clothes over the bodies I sketched with a pen. I kind of gave up on this activity when I moved to another country, but i’ll be trying again soon

My first art supply was a Sakura Micron pen set. It was expensive and I saved up for it for months! The pens were amazing and I created so much art that I still keep today. It was my first time using something other than crayons and stuff used in school.
Deviant Art used to be great. I miss the days of when it was about art and not softcore porn. The tutorials and work constantly flowing into the website was perfect inspiration. Sure we have instagram, but the images are so low resolution and sometimes I can't even make out the details of the art.

I started out with prismacolor colored pencils in middle school! I can't remember a time before that where I wasn't drawing but I considered those pencils to be my first ever "expensive" drawing item! I was so excited to use them so I colored in a drawing I did a few days prior. I was so happy with the results that I showed my parents and they thought they were markers. The very first medium I truly got into was Ink!! Of course, it was the cheap kind that you could get at the dollar store, but I loved the way it looks on stark white paper. I liked the way it looked on its own and didn't even bother to decorate it or color it. It just felt so smooth under the pressure of my hand, I felt truly in control of my movements then. Back then I would just draw random lines of varying thickness just to see how even I could make them.
Sadly though I mostly do digital now, but I would love to practice and hone my traditional art skills. Thank you for the opportunity!!!

The first "art" supply I ever used was probably when I was in kindergarden, we did a project with wax crayons melted onto cardstock - it was the late 90's, and teachers were more leniant on what young kids could handle back then. However, the first art medium I used (aside from some cheap 2HB pencils) was gouache paints and Crayola markers. I was 13 when I decided to be an artist and mediums that gave me the ability to give my simple little drawings colour really pushed the idea that I could make things from anything I could get my hands on. Granted, the paintings I made were absolutely horrid in comparison to my works now, but my family still hangs them up to this day.
It's amazing what a supportive family system, a multitude of resources (DA in your case, TH-cam for many others now), and a deep passion for creating in your interests can result in.

My first “medium “ was probably pen, which I would avidly use to create books. I would scribble the zany, dreamlike illustrations and make my dad write down the storyline. I now own a huge box filled to the brim with books that I made ranging from early to later years of my childhood. Looking through my oversized collection brings back a lot of memories, and I can see how drawing from so young continued to now. I’ve seen pictures of white walls covered with scrawls and scribbles made by a two you old (who happened to be me) and a handful of crayola crayons and markers. My parents weren’t too pleased but they taught me to shift my creative expressions onto paper and for once their ideal white painted walls stayed white.

I think I was the most creative during my early years. At 2/3 years old I used to borrow my grandfathers digital camera and take photos of literally everything I could find. I actually still have an album full of these pictures and some of them aren't that bad. I started drawing in preschool and I totally fell in love with it. I still have a lot of those drawings from preschool and most of them are in marker so I would say that is what started my journey into drawing and painting (that and crayons of course). Nowadays I love trying out new mediums and exploring all the different ways I can express myself artistically with various supplies.

I started off with a small, really mediocre cheap watercolor set from Crayola. It was very difficult and frustrating to start off but I got the hang of it eventually. My first ever art supply is a out of the ordinary-it was nail polish. Now I know what you're all thinking, "so you painted your nails?" NO. I painted everything BUT my own hands! Both of my parents own a nail salon, and as long as I can remember (and through embarrassing retelling of my baby years), I've been painting with half-empty/unpopular/cheap nail polish on printer paper, fake plastic nail models, and napkins since I was the tender age of 4. And yeah, I am a 1-Gen American, and as a child my parents never really had the extra money for other art supplies--but that didn't matter to 4-year old me! I had NAIL POLISH and I was always surrounded by women and men who made amazing art through nail lacquer. I would paint anything I wanted and I even (to the displeasure of my parents) paint on tables, windows, and even all the bed posts in the house! I never really cared for a "medium" until I reached middle school, when I started painting for real, and of course- it was watercolors. But We're talking about my first ever medium, Nail polish, and it will always have a special place in my heart...and of course, my nails!

First of all, I love to watch your videos! They are so relaxing, love your voice, your art and the music you use~ [sorry in advance for my really bad english]
The first art supply I ever tried was a set of really REALLY cheap markers, I used them with my little sister and my big brother, so lots of colors were always missing. I hated using them because (since I press down a lot while draw/color) the ink so many times destroyed the paper and the drawing, I spent so much effort to create, with it. Really frustrating isn't it. So I stopped using color. It was during the '90s. Probably during the first years of 2010 I started digital art, and started to love colors again. I resumed to color my traditional drawings only some years ago, when I discovered watercolor pencils. My sister gave to me the ones she didn't use for her art school and I felt so blessed. I'm now using some promarkers, that people I love bought to me. But my secret dream, since I was a tiny little chubby cutie pie, was to learn using watercolors! Long time ago I tried to use my sister's (please don't tell her), I remember I dipped the brush in the water, brushed the color and slipped the brush on the white paper... It was pure magic. So peacefull. So beautiful.

My first art medium were when i was about 4 years old .My mother bought me crayola crayons and markers after seeing my inclinations to art rather then toys. I scribbled my little heart away on numerous sheets of paper. My focus at that time were portraits. So, the inner narcissist in me bloomed and i drew tons of self portraits involving a triangle as my body with a circle head and big sausage fingers. I was bold with colors using purple as the skin and red as my body. With the background I used rapid strokes almost ripping the paper to create a sky using the last surviving 3 colored markers that had severely pushed in felt tips. Than, 2 days later when I lost/destroyed all the markers and crayons I went back to the good old faithful,a chewed up 2B pencil .
Now a days, one medium i'm into now is watercolor and i still tinkering with techniques. I also really want to own a Holbein watercolor palette!

I used to draw in my school notebook's back when I was a kid. I couldn't concentrate in class so instead I drew. I wish I still had those notebooks... they were full of doodles and sketches and it's interesting to see how the way we draw evolves in time. Now I'm 20 and I have completed a few sketchbooks, mainly in black and white, which is why I'm trying to experiment adding some color to my drawings, and watercolors are perfect, so beautiful and delicate, it's like watching into a lake in constant movement

The first art supply/medium I tried out, (other than pencil as and charcoal as a kid) was acrylics & watercolour during school when I had art class. I never strayed from graphite, so it was fun to try a wet medium. I had experimented a lot with mixing both acrylics and watercolour, so I can’t really say that one or the other was the first proper medium I’ve used. But it’s where I started to be happy with what I could do and enjoyed art a lot more. I appreciated the way you could experiment with different mediums together and express oneself through art so easily. Mixed media isn’t something I do anymore since finishing school, which makes me a little sad and want to do a whole lot more again.
Also love your videos, and I always enjoy watching when people use watercolour, so relaxing to me. 🙂

My first art supply was some water color tubes I cherished those watercolors and wouldn't let anyone use them. I didn't care that my art was bad I still loved those watercolor . That was very strange to me because I had never tried using tubes watercolor

Probably my first medium were the acrylic paints I still remember my teacher screaming at me from the bad that was at first but now I only hear compliments I was an example for colleagues conveying the idea that with effort everything is possible and today I feel confident about my paintings.

My first set of professional art supplies were prisma color alcohol base markers. I found out very quickly how much i didn't like how permanent using markers were when drawing so when i was around 13 and with alot of research i bought my first mini set of Windsor newton water colors. I absolutely loved them ,they fired a wave of inspiration and motivation in me that i haven't had before

My dad is an artist and our house is full of his oil paintings, I had always loved art and his paintings inspired me to try and get better at art. So around two years ago when I was 11,I decided I wanted to try watercolor so we got a watercolor color pencil set (so you colored in the pencils then put water on it to activate them). It came with a little sketchbook and I was instantly addicted. I have been constantly working to get better and am so glad art is in my life.

My first art supply besides crayola crayons😂 was cheap watercolor pallet from Michaels. When I first got them I was so very excited but soon came to realization that the quality was not the best but I was grateful to have a watercolor set that I could use to better my skills. To keep it short and simple I would love to win this giveaway as a chance to motivate me to follow through with my passion in art. Thank you❤️btw I love your videos

My first watercolour set was a really cheap one that every kid in kindergarten got from their parents. I remember using them on cheap paper and always making holes into the paper because of that and because I used way too much water. Well... I also thought I'm a perfect artist (I was 10 or so) but than my older brother came and criticized everything. Everything. That was... hard haha
