      Its not that bad - yes, fiddly and kinda a pain, but compared to some of the other stuff I've seen, it's relatively straight forward and doable without special tools. Trying changing the 'octopus' cooling hose on a Jaguar, now that's a pain. Or an alternator on an Alfa GTV6 - the factory put the bolts in backward (they hit the front cross member) so you have to lift the entire engine to remove it, which means disconnecting a ton of hoses.... Or even the lower timing chain tensioner on a mk6 GTI - the lower timing chain cover is glued on....

    Eric, when you took pictures of that connector, it reminded me of the very *first* car I had to fix *by myself* - my 1972 Olds Delta 88. It was my college transportation car, and one morning I walked to the garage and saw a puddle of antifreeze on the floor - the water pump had failed. I had a choice of fixing it myself, or quitting school 😁. I called my uncle, who was a brilliant man and could repair anything, and he walked me though the steps to replace the pump. The first thing I did before I removed a single bolt? I got out my trusty Polaroid camera (yeah, I'm that old) and snapped about ten pictures of where everything went. Three belts, untold bolts, and one gasket later, I had successfully replaced that pump, reassembled the car per my pictures, and it was perfect - except for one, lonely, solitary blue engine bolt. The car drove great for several more years, but I never did find out where that bolt belonged! 😀😀 Thanks for your great videos!

      @muttaburraaridi1309 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      One bolt left over? No worries, probably why you had a good run afterwards! I used to race speedway here in Aus and the blokes who did our engine builds had to go through a slab of beer while doing a build and had to have at least 1 bolt left over plus a few random washers. The only engine I ever watched them build and fit stone sober and with not a single left over bolt or washer was a dog that wouldn't run right no matter what we did. In frustration they stripped it back down over a slab and had a couple of random bolts left afterward and the thing ran beautifully and survived a full season without issue.
      Sometimes life just works that way no matter how logic says it shouldn't. ;-)

    What bothers me most about plastic is that automotive plastic is almost entirely NOT recyclable. Blue boxes are subsidized by non automotive manufacturers, the car industry does not participate. As plastic use continues to increase, we fill landfills with plastic vehicle carcasses that won't survive on the road nearly as long. I heard an interview with a researcher who was working on an entirely plastic vehicle. After several years, they plan to throw the whole thing away.

    • @Patrick94GSR
      @Patrick94GSR 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      nah it's all about the stupid design. My 2014 Mazda CX-5 has pretty much all the same shifter systems, and when I had to replace the switch that lets the car know when it's in park so the proximity key Start button will turn the car off (analogous to removing the key from the ignition shown here), it was about a 10 minute fix to remove the shifter panel, and remove/replace the switch assembly. Super easy.

    Did you check the manual gate???? Yes you can get the shifter in backwards it will work fine but won’t go over into the manual shift gate. Ask me how I know 😂 😂 and get 2 new retainer clips next time the keep them in stock as well. Those things turn into flying saucers and spaceship across the shop.

Back to the locksmith to get a $3 non-transponder key cut, then I took the column apart and zip tied the old transponder to the to the receiver. ran it like that for the next 5 years until i traded it.
