Hey guys WA. state here. We have shortages but seems every other day is replenished. So not to bad but keeping 2 granddaughters busy wow I get tired just watching them. We are trying to cook 2 different countries meals. Monday was Mediterranean (Greek), Tuesday was of course Tacos, but Saturday (today)will be Italian homemade ravioli. They learn to cook and figuring fractions at the same time. Best thing this week was the oatmeal raisin cookies the girls made. Hope everyone stays safe have a great weekend.
What’s different in Indy? IN is on lockdown. Our 28 yr old son moved back in (he has a lung issue and our house is safer than his large apartment building). We are enjoying his energetic 1 year old puppy! Our family isn’t eating out, which I count as a good thing, healthier and cheaper too. My husband is still paying his employees at his small business even though they aren’t working. Feels like he’s the only one who didn’t lay off, but we feel responsible for those families so he’ll keep it up as long as he can. Going to bake some more bread today, my new normal! The local shops have been wonderful at adapting for our town.
Our butcher (who only supplies from local farms) is doing deliveries to the vulnerable, as are two of the general food shops.
The food market are delivering fresh fruit and vegetables, and we even have a very small dairy who bottle their own milk helping out as and when they can.
Other members of the community are picking up and delivering the odds pieces, such as medications to people in any of the high risk groups. It's a real team effort, and we're lucky to have such a community spirit.
I am blessed to have such strong roots to the town, and to live here, and these are main reasons why.

Hello Al Lumnah, live from the UK. I am an Disabled American Veteran living in the UK. My British wife and I both are Renal patients, who have been self isolated for the last 16 days. We are dialysing as I type this. I have watched nearly every one of your videos in the last 8 months. My wife gets jealous, because I want to do what you have done and are still doing. We finally had to run to the store yesterday to restock our shelves. The brits are limiting how much you can buy of each item. We are doing fine otherwise. We live on the English Channel coast line where not many people contracted Coronavirus. My brother-in-law contracted it 3 days ago in London. All we can do is pray for everyone. Keep the videos coming so we can keep up with your homestead. God bless you and your family.

If you lived near me in Pa you could have all the firewood you want from my homestead trying to get it cleared out some to get ready for spring planting. One option is to temporarily close off the front door of that side and put in a space heater to warm up the birthing stall, that you can seal the concrete, if you have to move Willow into it beforehand. If weather is iffy, and sometimes you have to do things to help it.

Al , good job replacing the seal. Thanks for allowing me to " help " , lol. That was an interesting assembly .
I will join the others in saying that you missed the opportunity to replace the torn boot while you mostly had it apart anyway. Now you still have a torn boot which still should be replaced. Except that now , it will be repeat work. I always tried to do work only once. As for the seal on the opposite side. Often if you have two parts and one fails the other is not far behind. On the other hand the opposite seal may never leak / fail . It's an executive decision to take the gamble.
In the far distant past , I once did my own work as you just did . At the time I was looking forward to NOT having to do it ! Now , I am 77 and my health does not allow me to do such things. And believe it or not , I miss doing my own work . Lol I watch you changing the seal and I wish that I could it also.
Because I may have to take it apart again, I usually sprayed the shaft with WD-40 and applied some grease or Never seize to the threads of the tie rod end. Being exposed to the elements , rust and corrosion make life difficult. A little grease ahead of time helps.
72 degrees F today and the blossoms of the sand cherries have exploded open from one day to the next !
You brought back some wonderful memories of watching my Dad working on a 1950 Oldsmobile engine in the shop behind our house. He took it completely apart down to the last cotter pins and o rings. Of course it worked...he was an airline mechanic. Thanks!!!
Good morning, Lumnahs! Day 15 of isolation for my 18 yr old granddaughter and me in B'ham, Alabama. Groceries are still being delivered, although it takes a day longer. No complaints, though. Flour, fresh meat and eggs are usually out of stock. I ordered almond flour as a substitute for wheat flour - lol. It's not a swap out. We are doing well, and strangely enough, are feeling more relaxed with day to day pressures relieved and more anxious knowing the entire world is engaged in this horrible disruption. I look forward to your videos, and thank you thank you for sharing.
With all the craziness going on all around us, I really enjoy watching your videos in the morning. Sometimes I watch them again in the PM. Your channel gives me a sense of calming of the soul. No joke, folks...I know I say this over and over, but...watching y'all just gives me so much encouragement and hope--and gives me energy to go out and do something around my home place. I grew up on a registered Jersey cattle farm in Starkville, MS (home of MS State University) and all us children had plenty of chores to do. But, now that I'm retired (still do consulting, writing, and speaking, though) and don't have the farm animals and property to contend with--I still get inspiration from watching y'all. So, I began watching this video this morning, but paused it when I saw y'all working so hard on your property, so I took my 72-year-old self out to the garage and got everything tuned up, then went out and ran the weed eater and cleaned out a few flower beds. By the time I finished, my yard looked so much better. And, I did all that directly because I got energy from watching y'all.

I only had to use my stove a few times this winter. Don't think I went through half a cord. But, I do prefer a colder house to a hotter one. I only lit a fire if it was in the 20ºs out and/or low 50ºs in the house. I order my supplies for my donkey on Tractor Supply and the guy that leases my pasture for his horses picks up my order every Friday for me. I went to the store once and my husband went once. No bread, TP, meats, everything else is hit or miss. I have a prepper bucket of Italian food coming today. The weathers been good so it is all good. Blessings to all.

You should have fixed that boot while you had everything apart - a good rule ; "fix what you know needs fixing".

Problem is they dont sell the boots anymore you have to buy the whole tie rod end... so its better to wait till it dies and then do it. He did the right thing.
Wishing everyone a very pleasant weekend. Get yourself pencil and paper and write out what you can use and try to interplant. We have been short breakfast breads like English muffins and some vegetables that we like to add into stews. My husband makes good homemade breads and biscuits and he getting to the point he had to make several trips to find yeast.
Glad to see your doing well. I started making our dogs food. By adding 1/2 pound or more meat to the grocery list, sweet potato, carrots and beans. With oil and herbs for skin and flea. It's by far cheaper and healthier than processed dog food. My husband's still working as the local butcher. I pray for him every day not to contract the virus. Prayers to you and our nation.

At our supermarket (Phoenix AZ area) we were limited to only 2 loafs of bread and 2 half-gals of almond milk, plus they were out of a number of items.. but we were grateful for what we could purchase.. and have delivered, since I'm in the vulnerable category when it comes to taking any chances. All in all, supplies are still available and the delivery (young) guy told us he had a lot of work during this quarantine. Blessings to all those serving others during our nations time of need.
Good morning fellow Phoenician. I'm in Ahwatukee and it's the same here. Panic buying continues to disrupt the supply chain. I was thinking it would settle down once everyone filled their freezers. Turns out people are just buying more freezers. Much like the empty TP aisle our local Spencers sent out a notice that they have no freezer units left in stock. Interesting times.
We just finished felling, limbing, and splitting 27 cords from our woods. Heating with firewood is a lot of work! If Olivia needs more gym time we need to stack that 27 cords in the woodshed 😜

LOL!! I like the homeschool gym assignment!! Nice work on the Kubota!! Maintaining your own equipment is essential!! The ole girl has certainly served you well! Lovin the chicks! We had a Polish rooster, Gina named him Popover because when he was a chick, his little puff ball on his head reminded her of a popover! He is gone now sadly...was a pet more than anything else...followed her around like a puppy! We sure do miss the little guy!
I've found that if I go into town early in the am when I need groceries, shortly after the two grocery stores in my hometown open (one at 6:00 am, the other at 6:30 am) I get not only a much better selection, but far fewer people too be breathing around. As an added bonus, I discovered by getting there so early yesterday, Friday, that one of those stores gets their weekly supply truck in after closing Thursday night, and many employees are in and stocking shelves Friday morning. All the tuna was gone, for example, but when I was leaving that isle, here came a young lady pulling a cart with several cases on it. I got her to get me four cans out. I don't need to be a pig and horde stuff, but I'm sure there are some that would have just asked her for the cases. While I was in that store also, one of the bread company trucks pulled in to deliver as well. Same thing, a loaf was nice to see for a change. I did get two but didn't make a hog of myself. I don't think people are eating more, or pooping more, it's just that so many have 0 regards for the rest of the people in their community. The early bird gets the worm, I guess. I need to figure out now when the other store gets their supply truck - Most of us farmers are good at early, I've been up, done my chores, had a pot of coffee, and watched Al, all before the sun came up. Another bonus of farming is that I too supply my own milk and eggs, and still have quite a bit of beef, deer and elk meat from last Fall left - my egg intake is way up, but I'll worry about my cholesterol when the virus is gone. I've never raised hogs, but I wish I had, and now think I will next year.👩🌾

Al, I watched you build a chick broader out of plywood and 1 bus when I first subscribed to Lumnah Acres. I ordered us some chicks yesterday, Friday, and they will ship on 4/21. We are excited and I am fixing to start building that brooder. I sure hope it turns out to be as good as yours. I thank you because you have taught me so much just by watching you. I'm disabled and can't maneuver like you do but I can build this brooder. My next project is to build me a small boat barn and then get me some goats.

Al, a lot of local farmers have gotten together and shared their crops with those in need. One of the great things about living on an island is that farmers get together and sell their produce at malls/shopping centers on certain days of the week to help small businesses. During this time of quarantine though, they have strategically planned to share what they have with their communities, whatever they have freely or even for $20 for a load of mixed groceries (eggs, fruits, vegetables, etc...) It's a blessing to see our communities in Hawaii come together and give to those who are struggling at this time.

Being retired teachers and still very healthy and active 60+ year olds, we haven't had much in our routine change. We usually have an extra of whatever we might run out of on hand and have just been making lists as we see things we may need in a week or so. We make one trip to the grocery store per week for those types of items and buy our meat and about 50% of our produce from the farmers market. It was a soggy rainy day today but the lines were properly spaced not that bad to get in to the market and get waited on by the vendors. It was not problem and everyone is quite cordial and helpful. Like some do at the drive-up window at Starbuck, at a egg and meat vendor I gave her enough money to pay for the next two folks in line requesting a dozen eggs. We get by with a little help from our friends. Peace to you and your family and keep own keeping on. Joy Giles
My wife and I now live in the high desert part of Central Oregon. We lived in Rehoboth, Ma. some years ago. Interesting to see we both bought our tractor at the same place. We brought it back here when we left New England to come back out west.
I have the same leaks on my old tractor figure I will get on it in the warmer months, it was good to get a preview of what I'm in for.
Good job on the bota. Time to get the birthing stall ready even if you have to temporarily heat it to get the sealer down. Glad to see your peep shack doing so well. I too am refilling my wood shed as the rain allows. I get mine by the triaxle load and cut and split and stack it.
Good morning, The next time you are in town, buy a pair of right angle snap ring pliers for your tool bag you could have used them on your seal job.
I'm sure you are happy to have the tractor fixed now, one less worry. The stir fry looks so yummy Gina, made my mouth water. I have not been down to my grocery store, so not sure what the shelves look like. But from what I've heard, they are pretty empty around here as well, with two counties close to me shut down on lock down, schools all around have been shut down for about two weeks now. In my county they are asking you to stay home to prevent the spread, but don't seem like many doing that. My son has been working from home for the past two weeks. He had to go into town for gas so we could mow the yard, and said that the roads were as busy as always. We are staying home though except for the gas thing. Had our groceries delivered and couldn't get any stick butter, only margarine. Chicken was in slim supply too. Got frozen vegies, but not much fresh. So that is how it looks in our new normal. I agree. Many seasoned mechanics don't know that simple trick. I did notice also that he had a boot destroyer, AKA pickle fork in his tool assortment but he didn't need it
Yea and he had a torn boot on that same tie rod that probably should have been replaced while he was that far into it.
While it came off without an issue here...have you ever tried on a car with 150k miles that's dailyed in winter conditions, rusted and road salted into place? I have. For those reading that haven't: if you're at the point where you're changing out the OTR's on your personal vehicle, expect absolutely nothing to be accomplished by whacking a **cast** part 3 times with a 2lb deadblow.

You are close to the virus centers. We are not that close. There have only been 2 cases confirmed in my county in Texas. And 2 in the county where I buy my groceries. So it is relatively safe in our neck of the woods. But we are still taking precautions to prevent the virus. My grandson is doing his college classes online. The large cities are the ones in Texas that have the most cases. We live 100 miles from most of them. You three take care and stay on the farm as much as possible. I love your vlogs.

Hi from Washington State. My state has been hit hard with CV but most people are working together to help each other. I'm a retired RN in my mid 60's (high risk) so I'm limited in what I can do to help people. But I know how to garden!! Yesterday I had 7 yards of fine compost delivered, and received a mail-order box full of seeds--vegetables, beans, corn, herbs, etc. I have fig trees, a variety of berries, and many well-established grapevines. My home is on a good size lot, in the city limits. I hope to grow a 'food forest' this summer, with plenty to share with family, friends, and neighbors. I watch Lumnah Acres every morning BEFORE I watch the news. : ) A good way to start the day!!

Al, it’s not the new normal, it’s the new now! We will get past this and get back to life! It’s to bad it has taken a nasty virus 🦠 to make people slow down. And to see what’s really important And learning new things! my wife and I have learned how to make bread. and today we will be grinding our own sausage! That should go well with the eggs from our chickens! Looking forward to planting our yearly garden soon.. Thanks to you Gina and Olivia for all you do, and blessing our very little homestead

Gulf coast of Florida here. We have been unable to get chicken, bread and paper products in our grocery store. We have had to go to Sam's for them. My husband has to work because his company makes safety equipment, including pumps for ventilators. I worry about him being exposed to so many people every day...and bringing that home. I will not miss that.
You went threw a lot of fire wood this winter. Al put some old 2x4's under the bucket to keep the cement from getting damaged, they will slid under the bucket. Put some cardboard down to keep oil off your nice floor. Good job Al !

It is great that you can do the repairs on the Kubota yourself. That has to be a money saver for sure. The little chicks are doing so well, I hope others that build their coops similar to yours, will put insulation in the floors also. That is making it very cozy for those babies. Seems to be plenty of produce here but scarce on a lot of other things. I'm doing my food orders on-line and picking it up when scheduled,working pretty good so far. Thankfully I have a decent supply of game meat in the chest freezer from friends. Elk cheeseburgers tonight !!! Stay Safe everyone.

Good job!! A piece of advice from an old mechanic with a bad back, when breaking loose bolts and you have a choice always use gravity assist. Push down using your weight never pull up. 6:06

WELD a HD Flat Washer on she end of a HD bar/rod to make a seal remover tool. Weld the thick class 8 washer on a tilt. You can now use the washer/bar to hook the edge of the seal to push/pull the seal out.

LOL I think Al met himself coming and going while stacking that wood. :-) The chicks are growing fast. Hope your snow melts fast. We cannot get many meats around this area of SW Virginia. Fresh produce seems to be available here too. TP and paper towels are still usually not available. Take care. Stay safe.
In Southwest Ohio, paper products are hard to come by fortunately I had just bought a two months supply (36 double rolls) before the virus hit. I raise Quail so eggs are not a problem. Keep safe and stay warm and God Bless.

My Grandfather used to tell me that everytime you install an oil ring or a small gasket, you should put a light film of oil on it. And like many others have said, replacing that tie rod boot would save you time in the log run. Thanks for sharing!
great video, love how you showed a little about everything around the property and your family as well. I am in need of replacing both the seals on my JD 755 and I can't find any videos on how to get it done. I imagine its all pretty much the same steps as both side are leaking from the same spot.
