    Great job Biff. For someone who works their tractor as hard as you do, there wasn't a spec of dirt on the inside of your rims when you took them off. Your tractor is always shiny and new looking. I can't find the time to wash mine, talk about a full detail cleaning like yours is. 👍👍👍

    I have been meaning to thank you for some time for posting this video. I have a BX2360 that I bought new in 2012. Last fall it developed a leak in the left front axle seal. I watched a few videos on replacing the front axle seals on BX tractors and found yours to be the best. A lot of the videos skip steps during the disassembly and reassembly process and I was a little apprehensive about doing the job. However yours showed every step and after watching your video multiple times I was able to do the job successfully early this past spring. Thanks again! Great job on the video.

      Awesome man I’m glad to hear it! I agree many people who make these types of videos always seem to leave out the biggest or most important steps and often they do it cuz it’s hard to record or maybe they are just unsure of how to do it properly themselves so they leave it out but I try to show every single step so anyone following along can do the same job themself. I appericate the comment 👍🏻

    Nice documentation. My machine isn't ready for this, but this is one of those things that eventually fails on them all. I feel better knowing what's involved. I really appreciate the balance you have between doing it right and not buying special tools that the book/pros tell you that you need. Most guys are willing to buy a $15 exhaust piece for a single job, but I imagine Kubota sells a special seal installation tool for $100 or so and that would deter a lot of folks. Nice job!

I feel the need seals are better than original now and with the fresh oil I hope it lasts a long time now. I pull the dipstick and very slowly fill from the knuckle all the way up while spinning the tire then top off at dipstick. This method pushes the air up and out of the knuckle minimizing trapped air bubbles.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great idea also.. the main thing is to get the final drives full first cuz your right those are def the hardest to get bled. I got 4.5 quarts in mine and then another 1/8th a quart after I drove it around a bit. Now I need to give it a good workout and check back in a week haha.

  • @wildbill23c
    @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That seems like a pretty easy repair, and from what I gather a quite common one at that.
    I need to check the fluid level in the final drives on my BX2680, I didn't realize I had to check those separate yikes and I have 17 hours on it and have never checked them, I've pulled the dipstick out of the axle and filled it up a bit as it was a little low after a couple of hours of use.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey William your fine the dipstick will tell you your entire front axle level and when the dipstick is level so are the final drives where they need to be. I was saying that when filling draining and refilling your axle and final drives it’s much faster and more effective to fill each final drive first before filling it at the dipstick spot because it allows the oil to get down into the final drives much much quicker.. if you didn’t fill the final drives first you would prolly only be able to get a couple quarts in it, I was able to get 4.5 quarts in it right away by filling the final drives first.. it’s not necessary but saves you lots of time and aggravation getting all of the air out of the front axle.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BiffsEquipment Thanks, I checked the final drives this morning one side was right at the top the other one I had to add probably about 1/2 of a cup of fluid to....I'd rather check and fill than have a failure because I had no clue about those final drives....
      Thanks for the video, looks like a pretty easy repair overall. Those snap rings are a pain no matter what you are working on LOL.

  • @rayanderson4119

    That's seal I'm replacing in a week. Both sides. Just a note here, these weren't the axle seals, these were the "bevel gear shaft" seals, what I would call a spindle. The axles have a different seal and we didn't actually see that. I'm replacing those also since I have it apart, as well as the pivot o-rings (since I had leaked some there previously). Never the less, I found this very helpful to set me up for success. Thank you!

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you are correct, there are like 3 different seals if I remember correctly, I think I replaced the final drive seals and the bevel gear shaft seals.. the actual axle seals usually last a very long time since they aren’t taking the brunt of the load.. the final drive seals were only replaced since i was in there.. once you’ve got the final drive apart you might as well jist swap the o-rings/seals for it while your in there for the extra $7 they cost or whatever. I’m glad my video helped and let me know how you make out! Trickiest part is prolly the fussy snap ring and having the perfect sized snap ring pliers to get it out and back in again 👍🏻

    • @rayanderson4119
      @rayanderson4119 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BiffsEquipment So mine is older than yours. Once we got it apart, we decided that we would leave the actual axle seals as they weren't leaking and there wasn't an obvious place to take them apart other than gear pullers. If I ever need it, I may just let the dealer do it. My final drive doesn't use an O-ring, it just uses Permatex, so we have to clean off those surfaces yet. And I have O-rings from the axle tube to the bevel gears above these spindle seals. I got those simply because I didn't quite understand how it all came apart. I also did both tie-rod ends and new O-ring and washers on the axle pivot. The pivot was easy. One end of the tie-rod was a real bear. 2 vice grips and a wrench to hold the cylinder shaft against the tie-rod screwed in the other end. Had to heat it a LOT and I hope the seal there didn't get fried. So, moving along, but not yet done. Even after watching your video, I wasn't prepared for that snap ring letting go of the whole hub casing like that.

      Hey thanks man, I would say If I wasn’t filming it prolly woulda took me 3 hours.. hard to tell now tho after the fact it coulda been a little less time or even a little more since I had to stop often and talk about what I was doing it’s hard to figure out just how much time I waisted when filming this. Id say to your average person, give yourself at least 4-8 hours specially if you don’t work on things regularly.. if your mechanically inclined like I am it could only take you 2-3 hours.. once you do one side and learn what all the steps are the other side goes quick 👍🏻

    Just doing this on a BX25D also did wheel hub seals but but can’t get the spindle up all the way to install the snap ring, doesn’t seem to be the gear timing it seems to be the bearing under the new seal, anyway would like to hear if anybody else has had this issue, great video thanks!

    • @BiffsEquipment

      Make sure the axle shaft is very clean that the bearing and seal are sliding up onto, sometimes you can take a rubber mallet and give it a few taps to get it in place. Your correct it prolly is the bearing that’s pinching on the shaft keeping you from going all the way up so just keep it really clean and use a bit of transmission oil around the bearing and shaft before trying again and give it a little bump with a rubber mallet and it should go right back up into place.

    • @joecorrie1

    I'm a bit late to the party here but I was wondering if it's OK to use the Lucas oil stabilizer with the Kubota UDT hydraulic oil in the gear case? My complements on the clear and complete video. Well done!

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  ปีที่แล้ว

      The ma Irvin I appericate it, as for your question I’m not sure, read the back of the bottle of Lucas and see if it says it’s ok to mix with hydraulic oil, that may be the one oil it won’t mix with nicely. I know the Lucas stabilizer is fully synthetic tho and I think on the back of the bottle it says something like “mixes with any oil” if it states that then you should be just fine.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  ปีที่แล้ว

      The hard part is it’s gonna be tough to know how thick your making it by adding that and how much to add, I used Lucas gear oil to add to my regular gear oil and added 1 bottle I Belive but the Lucas gear oil is gonna have a differnt consustancy than the oil stabilizer. Hope this helps

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No I don’t because even tho I have the 80 series loader I do not have the quick tach couplers on my machine. I have the standard pioneer couplers that the 70 series and lower tractors used and these don’t leak. If yours keeps leaking.. consider converting it back to the regular pioneer couplers cuz you are not alone in having that issue. It’s a well known issue that those newer flat face couplers on the new 80 series leak often. Best of luck!

    How long did the seals last before they leaked? I was just servicing my 2020 bx last night and noticed a little grease or leaks coming from my left front seal.. I have an 106 hours on mine..

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey bombidude how you been buddy! Your one of my original subscribers! I really appreciate that you stuck around and still watch my videos. My tractor had 850 hours on the original axle seals BUT they have been leaking for a long time.. prolly since the 400 mark cuz it def didn’t just happen yesterday.. I could tell it’s been leaking for years by the looks of it but only recently did it get much much worse. Let me know how you make out if you change them or not. I would first take the wheels off and clean your knuckles/axles up really good, make sure they are clean and dry then work the tractor hard for a few weeks or so and check back.. this is what I did to make sure mine were leaking, I cleaned them and a month later they were oil soaked again 👍🏻

      Yes they should.. as far as I know the axle on the 80 series are identical to the 70 series.. the only reason I’m not gonna say 100% for sure it’s the same is because Kubota (may) have made an update somewhere that’s small enough to affect the gaskets in some way but I highly doubt that’s the case. Thanks for doing a detailed video on this repair. I have an 18 year old BX2230D which is used weekly and it has just started leaking enough to warrant changing the seals so I will be doing this soon.
    I wonder if some of the jacking and beating, clamping, etc. I have read about is from trying to install both parts of the two part seal in the spindle in one operation without taking it apart first and installing the two parts separately as you showed.
    On my tractor, the seal number is the same as your tractor (as are most of the other part numbers), but the parts list does not show the large o-ring around the Front Axle (what you call the final drive, which would be a more correct name IMO) and the housing is shaped differently, so for others with various aged BX's, I would recommend using the parts lookup/order pages from Messicks to make sure that before ordering parts you get the correct parts are needed or just order the o-rings from the part number showing in the video knowing they may not be needed.
    Great video like always!

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome glad to hear it helped! I agree, always double check for the correct part numbers for your model. The part numbers I used will only work for a bx50 through bx 70 or 80 series.. anything older than a bx50 will likely require a few different part numbers as you stated. Thanks for the comment !
