I agree with you 100% on the point of education versus common sense and knowledge I have never read a book in my life. I am highly dyslexic, but I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks and educated myself and all faces of knowledge while driving a semi down the road, I do that Peterson. I’ll have to check that out.

A friend of mine who is has published many books and is a world-renowned speaker in Christian evangelism and apologetics accesses almost all books by listening to them. He loves that format. As for listening while driving, my wife and I have shared many a book that way on trips.

@ I started writing a book about 1011 weeks ago. I reckon my wife will do the editing for me and put it all in correct order. She is probably the only person that can read my writing. I appreciate your message greatly.

Steve, great video today. I totally agree with your thoughts on schooling. I especially liked your analogy of the assembly line. The loss of the mentoring from parents/ father to son of his trade is very sad. I am mostly self educated by reading and learning and listening to others whether they are older or younger than myself. As for grandparents I always liked the phrase "if you spoil your children you will have to raise your grandchildren". Cheers Ron

That is a great line about spoiling children, and so accurate. As for mentoring, there is nothing better for the deep formation of a person.

My Son's a senior this year. Three sport student athlete and has had several scholarships for baseball already. He takes electrical half day at Vo Tech school, and has decided to continue the trade after graduation. School is a struggle with him. Comprehensive reading is tough for him. Hands on he's like a recording machine. Thanks for this video and I support my son 100%. My daughter was the exact opposite who now teaches which we have discussed in email. Have a blessed day!

It is a particular arrogance of the present age to value the university degree over the certificate from trade school. Both are needed. Good for your son and your daughter!

Apprenticing was how everything used to be done. That kind of close contact with the master of a skill is invaluable.
And if one more person says something about a Bones pipe, I am going to have get one! LOL!

Hi there, I was not expecting a direct response but thank you. I'll forgive your pronunciation of my surname, very few people outside of Yorkshire (England) or Scotland ever get it right 😂. In total agreement with your thoughts on this, "education" is vital. It is noteworthy that compulsory attendance at school, in the UK , arrived around the same time as the Industrial Revolution! I am an avid reader of all sorts of Literature and look forward to your next episode and details about your new book.

I am so sorry for the mispronunciation! Can you give me a word that rhymes with it?
It is interesting that compulsory attendance came into effect around the time of the Industrial Revolution. Yes, our citizens need a command of certain basic facts such as the ability to read and perform certain functions of arithmetic, but beyond that formal schooling should be a matter of choice. The compulsory nature has turned our schools into warehouses where parents can stow their offspring during the working hours of the day.

@@PerkinsPipes it's a hard one for Americans, but there's an old advert for a Scotch Whisky called Haig (same less the end H), that used the catch phrase " don't be vague ask for Haig" ,that should get you there!!!😂. A lot people at school used that one on me!!!
