Sunday got here early this weekend! 😺 I would say to have more than three questions ready, just in case one or two of your questions were answered prior to your opportunity to ask them.
I remember when I made my interview with MSC Cruise Line on video chat and at the end he asked me if i had any questions and I said yes I do, the question I made was; ¿If im selected for the job, what would be your recommendations for me to what should be my priority in my first month onboard, what should I focus all my attention? The officer smiled, like he wasnt expecting me to ask that question. He saw that I was already viewing myself working onboard. Everything went very well and I get the job, I'll be onboard this 1th of June 2024 as ITV Coordinator (Broadcast Technician) onboard MSC Seascape Is very important to prepare yourself before an interview and investigate the probable questions they may ask you
Hi Lucy, this is an excellent video about what you need to do for the interview. Especially venue for the zoom meeting, clothes, makeup, and some questions. All the best everyone from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks Lucy. The skills you mentioned are perfect for many public contact positions on and off ships. As a former Recruiter/Instructor/International Flijght Attendant at American Airlines, there are a few more things we look for. Unfortunately, these cannot be taught. There is a saying. "children live what they learn." What we look for are things an applicant brings with them and were learned begining in childhood. When recruiting I listen and watch for the qualities we are looking for or behaviors or words that tell us they may be bringing some qualities I see that they learned but are not acceptable. We cannot train the good ones in and cannot train the bad ones out of them. Also, I always approach a group or final one on one interview with the thought that everyone is hired or moved forward unless they talk me out of it. We are they to hire people. Unfortunately, some do not have what we are looking for.
Love your content but you repeat topics a lot…it’d be cool if you talked about the world cruise topic on TikTok or current events around cruises ( like when the cruise rerouted to Boston) just a suggestion!
Love your advice Lucy - it certainly does apply to any interview at sea or on land. The only thing I find annoying is that women 'should' wear make-up but of course, men, generally, do not. I've never worn make-up as I find it uncomfortable on my face. I have landed many (land) jobs without using it so I'm wondering whether ships apply different standards.
Lucy, nice video. I especially like your emphasis on interview skills, asking questions, etc. VERY important! As for English Skills, you made me smile. English is my first language, American English, so I do love your accent. But in some of your own videos (such as the most recent two from this past week) you speak very fast. Not a problem for me, but my 102-yr-old Mom cannot understand you, so perhaps others (who English is not their first language) may also wish that you slowed-down a bit? Think about your last video "How to Choose What Job...", instead of 12min04sec, if you spoke just a bit slower it might be 12min34sec long, and not only contained the same info, but may have been easier for some across the world to understand? Any way, thanks for reminding everyone of some oft over-looked skills that everyone can develop with just a bit of care. Looking forward to seeing you back out there filming on-board! Fair winds! 😀
@@sailorspills3025 Well I'm an American who has no problem understanding Lucy, or any other Brit. But, my 102 year old Mom's hearing isn't very good, even with her new hearing aides...and, it's no surprise that at over 102 years, her brain is slowing-down as well. And, I do know when I listen to Spanish, it's a bit difficult for me to grasp if the person is speaking quickly. Just saying I stand behind my polite suggestion for Lucy to speak a bit slower (like she did here in this video, as opposed to her last one) for those who may be struggling with English as their second language. 😀
Not sure i got much out of this video. What you're saying is in order to get a cruise ship job, I just need to be human and have common sense? That's it, really?? Is it that easy?
Hello!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for all your videos!!!! I am going to start to work as a crew netx may and I am very exited about it, but there is one think that its consuming my mind and its my age. I am 35 years old and it worries me because in all the vlogs that I have seen there is always young people, like in their 20´s. I would appreciate any word that you said about the age topic. Have a nice day and thanks for every tihing!!!!!!!!!
Hi, based on Lucy’s mentioned in previous times, there is not necessarily an age limit( probably not past 90?🤷🏻♀️😊). More emphasis is placed on good health, which would enable one to easily perform their respective daily tasks onboard. As often said by anyone who has worked or is working on cruise ships, “ the hours are looonng and there are NO days off!” All the best to you for your contract. Fair winds😊
Sgt., If you have a look, Lucy made a few videos on this subject. One is actually titled "How to Ace your Cruise Ship Job Interview" (from May of 2021), and the other is an interview with a cruise line recruiter, titled "Cruise Ship Recruiter tells us how to have a successful INTERVIEW for a job onboard cruise ships" (from Jan 2021). She also has her career guides on her website, waiting to the last minute to ask this advice, you might not have the time to actually prepare and be "natural" at it. Wishing you good luck!
Hey Lucy kindly what are questions asked by Harding retail...have received an email to do the introductory video as their first stage of recruitment.... please please please what questions do they ask
I believe the video is just you talking about yourself so your name, where you're from, why you want to work on cruise ships and in retail, your previous work experience, and why they should choose you for the job. Good luck babe. You'll do great!
Good luck on your new adventure! From what I've seen here, generally the answer is no. Of course, it depends on the ship/cruise line, such as on Virgin Voyages Lucy was allowed to eat in the restaurants, although this was only after passenger reservations were taken care of. But she could not use other "guest" services, such as pool, etc. And, on other cruise lines, it is even more restrictive. (of course, some higher-ranked crew do have access to more guest/passenger privileges, I doubt a new-hire shoppie will). I hope this helps? And again, good luck and fair winds!

Thank you for your wise advise. Could you share available positions at American Airlines for foreigner? I am Francis Wandera from Nairobi, 🇰🇪 Kenya.
Great tips, skills and information Lucy.

It’s only Americans who can’t understand British people in my experience.. 😂

Are women required to wear make-up when working on cruise ships?
Hey Lucy i got my Starboard Screening AI interview coming up this week , please give some tips to ace the interview.
