How to do the Lancer coolant bypass mod - 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer

  • This is a How To video on the coolant bypass modification for your throttle body on the Mitsubishi Lancer.
    Mine's a 2002 manual OZ Rally edition but it should be the same for most Lancer's/cars.
    These are the coolant lines that run through the throttle body and heat up the air going into the combustion chamber. Doing this mod will cool the air going into your engine and result in a SLIGHT increase in HP and fuel milage.
    The reason these coolant lines are running through the throttle body in the first place is they act as a deicing agent in cold temps... historically this has not been an issue and thus I (and many others) have decided to do away with them. Proceed at your own risk
    Thanks for the interest :)

    The way I did mine was take the hose on the right side off completely from throttle body and hard line to heater core. And the hose on the left I looped to the nipple on the hard line to heater core. Removed a hose and 2 clamps from the system,cost nothing and still executed the coolant bypass on my Oz rally without buying fittings. It's good to go! Lol

    great video sir, but you should just remove one hose and use the other to reconnect the waterline, you don't need to buy anything. AND YOUR GOOD TO GO.
    You can do this to any EFI engine, it will not damage the engine at all.

      Thanks. The reason I did it this way was to have the option to return it back to factory if I ever chose to :)

    what are the sizes of the hoses that connect from the firewall to the throttle body ? 🤔

    Ummmmm.... you should have got some vacuum caps to block off the two bars on the actual throttle body. leaving them open and exposed like that is not good

    should the coolant be leaking out of those two barbs from the engine right after finishing??

    Nice tip sir! How about the other bigger hose that attached to the thermostat body? I noticed that it has a rubber inside with a tiny hole? Can i remove the rubber inside?

    With this part leaking, would it leak into your speed sensor? My transmission speed sensor is literally sitting in a puddle of anti freeze. All I've gotten is a blank look from both mechanics I've gone to as to whats doing this.

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jerome levardo Sorry for the late reply, I'm guessing that's your idle air control motor and harness. It sometimes burns up, I'd probably take it to a mechanic to repair because it's possible something caused it to fail in the first place.
      Otherwise I'd say your best bet is to buy a new idle air control and try to get the harness from a junkyard.

    your maf says it's for what looked like an 04 galant why did you put one of thoes on I have an 02 galant and if it's better should I put one on mine or is mine the same

    • @mci2727
      @mci2727  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good eye!
      It is from a Galant, I put it in because it's larger and allows more air to be pulled in... But it takes more than just replacing the MAF as the computer needs to know it's been replaced and needs a custom air/fuel curve installed to utilize the upgraded MAF
      So I had a custom rom programed and installed to benefit from the upgrade.

      Hey JADAR671 thanks for your comment.

      @mci2727  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I'm not sure. I've never worked on the 4g92 before.
      Should be fairly easy to look at and see if there are coolant lines that run through the throttle body or not. If there are coolant lines running through the throttle body, you can do a coolant bypass.
      Thanks so much!

    hmm delete the bypass, yank out everthing that adds weight. spare tire, seats, stereo. youll gain a lot doing that especially saving added centrifugal forces to your alternator from all of the neons.. frees up some ponies on the serp.
