Today, I'm taking a look at the new 2024 Kia EV6, and I'm going to try and answer the question, 'Should you buy it?' We'll go over everything from the design and performance to the tech and practicality to help you decide if this electric SUV is the right choice for you.

Battery vehicles are ok for those who can afford the depreciation, charge at home and live with the poor charging infrastructure.
The depreciation is much less of an issue if you *lease* rather than buy..... Most people who choose this car will do so because it's a motorway cruiser, not a city commuter. And as many motorway service stations now have plenty of chargers ( Hilton Park on the M6 has around 40) it won't be much of an issue....
@@Brian-om2hh but at the chargers you're paying 50-70p/kwh and you might as well get a diesel and pay half the price.
@dreamcrusher112 but a diesel has less refinement, more NVH, stinks, sounds clattery, is probably slower and nowhere near as smooth or effortless to drive, and has tailpipe emissions that aren't ideal in populated areas?
@@dreamcrusher112- not really. If you read the DailyMail or watch some TH-camrs, you would believe public charging is expensive.
However very few people are public charging at the displayed rates. All car makers offer discounts on these prices.
Porsche, Audi, Polestar Mercedes,BMW and some others all get cheap Ionity rates - usually about 35p kWh, on an advertised 80p kwh rate.
Tesla chargers are 30-40p, depending on the time of day

Ive had an EV6 for 2 years as a company car. I has been pretty much flawless, before I had this I was really an EV hater, but this car has completly changed my mind.
I have only TWO things I can complain about after 2 years, these are:
1. There is no way to get your spedometer in the middle of the screen, it always to one side, slightly annoying but you'll get over it.
2. The piano black on the doorcards, WHY? Stop it..
An advert paid for by Kia or an associated garage, Matt.? You say not.....hmmmm. You're better than this, sir.
I never liked it when Matt got a lot of stick for taking on sponsors. You're hardly selling out your principles by taking sponsorship money from shaving/VPN/vehicle history check companies.
Things are a bit different now he's shilled for big battery and dubious companies like betterhelp.

Great video, Matt. I have the mat grey AWD EV6 and I love it, best car I have ever owned. I have had it just over a year now and I entend to keep it for another 4 or 5 years. First time I have ever kept a car that long!

18 minutes to charge 70% and 90 minutes queueing for the one charger that actually works, doesn't sound so good now.
Charge it at home.
Yeah and if you charge at home (likely buyer demographic), you wake up to a full battery everyday that takes you precisely 0 minutes to refuel?
There are many charging sites with 30+ chargers now. If you turn up to a queue then you’re at the wrong place to charge.

5 minutes to get a full tank of diesel and 600 mile range. No EV comes close.

I remember people didn’t hate electric cars as much before governments were imposing the idea of replacing all internal combustion engine vehicles in the near future for EVs. Of course they are not all that eco friendly as some think, but for mostly city use EVs make so much sense, if you make short commutes and charge at home that is.
Nobody is imposing the idea of replacing *all* ICE vehicles. You can continue using any ICE vehicle you have after the ban on the sale of new ICE arrives. The transition to full EV is anticipated to take around 20 years. It won't be like switching a light off, like you appear to feel.

It seems a real pity that battery cars seem to have many gismo's fitted to try and compensate for the main thing that's missing.

Average uk wage is 35,800 according to the uk government website. Madness that what is touted as a family car is over 50k.
Heading into the quiet months on the second hand sales market . Gotta bank the cash to pay them bills.
Think I would go with the Chevy Equinox and save about 12 K over the EV6.

hmmm .... will be interesting, Matt, to see how the 'Kia promo' videos stack up against the rest in terms of views - something for the xmas wrap up (or should that be unwrap?). Personally, I prefer the less 'corporate' vids, but each to their own, and you can't please everyone all the time etc....
.... and as an EV owner (Mini Electric), I'm glad I got mine as a salary sacrifice work incentive, entering into a lease eyes open that it would not be replacing either my 10 year old Range Rover Sport (love it), or Mrs' 2017 5.0 Mustang (marmite).

i like the EV6 and wouln't mind owning one, but my wife cant handle the ride in ev's she gets motions sickness due to to regenerative breaking and fast starts.

As for the KIA EV6 It's refreshingly different from all those dare I say it large square boxes
On the downside the residual values of all Electric and Hybrid Vehicles in a word Crashing.
So probably better buy used.
I really want to get into this fierce debate about EV's. People are so divided over it. All I will say is that everyone I know who has bought an EV has since gone back to petrol or diesel. Enough said.

I looked at these a few years ago but I struggled with head height in the drivers seat , how did you find this ? I’m 6ft , but ! I have a family member that’s 6ft 5 and he wouldn’t have fitted in I don’t think ,have they improved this ? , I loved the styling and interior and think they’ve even improved it further , just that head height put me off

Hey Matt, got my work hat on but In my opinion, electric cars and the charging situation is not cost effective. When vat on home charging is 5% and 25% out. The government have set the bar high to be all electric by 2035! We’ll see 😗😊

a nice looking car, but the electric infrastructure just isn't there. cars take too long to charge and chargers are unreliable, plus theres no chargers near my house so if i was to have an electric car, i'd have quite a long walk since i can't have a charger fitted since i have no offstreet parking.

Do you travel over 700 miles one way on every journey ever day? Even using motorways the average speed for most cars is 45 mph so you'd take roughly 31 hours to cover 1400 miles without stopping for fuel/food/,toilet as a minimum.

I would still however recommend against this style of video. They're less distinctive than your usual "Should you buy" videos.
