Love your shows Chris. Grew up a Bruins fan but those Montreal teams of the late 70's that won four straight cups were the best I've ever seen. Jacques Lemaire was such a great player and he seemed to score so many clutch goals.
The earliest memory I have of Coco is seeing him crossing the Toronto Blue Line in full flight and letting a slapshot go that beat Johnny Bower to the far side. That was the late 60s, and I've been hooked on the Habs ever since.
One of my favorite Habs from the 70’s. So smart and so clutch. Always gave the team what they needed. I would be interested in Jacque’s thoughts on how he would beat the trap. He always was one step ahead.
The Canadiens really missed this man when he retired. Bowman, Dryden, Lemaire all left after the 79 cup win. He was a great playmaker and a great head coach.
I watched Jacques Lemaire, the player. 1971, game 7 against the Hawkes. Jacques steps over center ice and let's loose a bomb to the top corner on Tony Esposito. Turned the game around to let Henri get the next two, to win the most unlikely Cup of the 70s. I believe that goal started the dynasty. A torch was passed that night. Jacques picked it up and carried it. Absolute MVP for the 70s. Kenny and Guy are honorable mentions, but Jacques was the fireplug. Jacques was always up front.
I love listening to you and your past history with hockey and all these other Canadiens. The car ride is a great story, and it seemed like Chris, you were destined to be a Canadien. And when ever I watch old games from the 80's, I look for what you did in those games... Thanks Chris and all your guests for the entertainment.
Knuckles always has the best guests and I (along with all his fans) appreciate his awesome interviews, and his great comments, personal views and especially his stories. Jacques Lemaire may not have been the most popular of NHL head coaches because of his defence first systems but he was a heck of a player (his #25 must be retired and given his just appreciation Bell Centre ceremony...12seasons, all with the Habs and 8 Stanley Cups...what are you waiting for Montreal Canadiens?!). IMO, the Habs missed a huge opportunity taking advantage of these great ex-Hab players who know what it means to be a Montreal Canadien, and not keeping them in the organization in some capacity. I realize that there were a few ex-Habs that became GM or coach and it did not work out, however, let's be honest, some of the choices were very questionable for the position asked of them. I feel this lost opportunity explains this organizations downfall after 1993. Anyways, keep up the great work Chris!
Today is the boring days of the NHL. The 70's , 80's were great and the 90's were very good. Since then Bettman has destroyed the NHL over and over again. It stinks now.
Thank you Knuckles for having Lemaire on. Great podcast! I miss the nhl of old, it had such great players, fewer teams and it was a tough skilled sport and players played for each other and not so much for the money! The officiating was pretty even... Nowadays it's all about money and a league with too many teams, too watered down and now we have certain officials that like to deside games rather than have the players decide them
So deserving for Jacques Lemaire the New Jersey Devils The franchise's winningest head coach in history and bench For the 1995 Stanley Cup Championship team, will be Inducted into the Devils Ring of Honor presented by the Citizens During a pregame ceremony on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, When the team hosts the Boston Bruins. Today Jacques Lemaire Is a special assignment coach with the New York Islanders.
What Jacques Lemaire isn't saying: it's so much easier to implement this coaching style that he's discussing in the early part of the video when your team SCORES FIRST. And New Jersey scored first a lot !
As a kid I remember Jacques scoring a goal with a slap shot from center ice. Number 25 forever. Btw, how come that number isn't hanging from the rafters at the BC?
Jacques went 48-27-7 in '09/10 with the Devils, and retired. John MacLean took over the next season, started 9-22-2 and was promptly fired. Jacques came back unexpectedly to take over that mess without a training camp, and after dropping his first 3 games, went 29-14-3 the rest of the way. He won 12 out of 13 at one point. Same team.
Hey Knucks, you're from Boson. How about getting some more Bruins or ex-Whalers on! Us New Englanders would appreciate it! I wish you were drafted By the Whalers or Bruins instead of your beloved Habs. Otherwise, great show and I miss you on 690 AM out of Montreal and yes, we get that station in Vermont.
I had forgotten about the Devil's framed Neutral Zone Trap! 🪤 LaMaire and Lamorello were tough to beat and trying to get a puck part Martin Brodeur forget about it!!
Reinbacher vrs Michkov ,we will see years later when it matters most in the playoffs. Imagine Philly vrs Montreal in the semi-final . And Reinbacker shutting down Michkov . When it matters most . Montreal did all right . In Kent , We Trust . GO HABS GO !!! 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
Nothing like old school Hockey, Red line back in. Todays game Boring. Just because the game is fast, does not mean its better. not much skills at 25 second shift. The Game is so watered down its not funny.
Lemaire is the only player I ever seen score 2 goals from center ice with a slapshot. Today the Habs are afraid to slaps-hoot unless its on the PP. The coach they have is to blame.... he teaches his players to shoot ONLY WHEN inside the 15 foot area of the goal. Habs are very predictable playing 5 on 5 because of that.
Jacques as a player made his teammates so much better. His hockey sense was off the charts before there was hockey sense.
Love your shows Chris. Grew up a Bruins fan but those Montreal teams of the late 70's that won four straight cups were the best I've ever seen. Jacques Lemaire was such a great player and he seemed to score so many clutch goals.
Wow!
Jacques Lemaire!
Thanks Chris!
Second time he was on I like listening to them
Probably the best interview since the podcast started!
An absolutey tremendous show Chris. Jacques is an amazing interview!
I see Jacques Lemaire on the Pod and I clear my schedule till further notice.
Great interview with Lemaire.... Keep em coming!
How long have we Knuckles viewers been waiting for this one. Epic!!
Yes, you can play great hockey,Chris. Jacques has all our respect. Love your show!
The earliest memory I have of Coco is seeing him crossing the Toronto Blue Line in full flight and letting a slapshot go that beat Johnny Bower to the far side. That was the late 60s, and I've been hooked on the Habs ever since.
What a disgrace that Montreal still hasn't retired #25 and 22
One of my favorite Habs from the 70’s. So smart and so clutch. Always gave the team what they needed. I would be interested in Jacque’s thoughts on how he would beat the trap. He always was one step ahead.
A super interview!
One of the best in his day. He was smoooooooth and a winner.
The Canadiens really missed this man when he retired. Bowman, Dryden, Lemaire all left after the 79 cup win. He was a great playmaker and a great head coach.
Great guest Knuckles 👍 👌
Belle maison Coco. Thanks Chris and Jacques, enjoyed the interview.

I love listening to Cris Nilan. Smart hockey sense! Not to mention he was one of my favorite players back in the day!

It's true I've often thought the same things that you've mentioned.
Lemaire and Shutt should be in the rafters at the Bell Centre and their numbers retired . Merci Jacques et Steve .
Boston Bruins! Portland, Maine. Real fans respect these guys. So cool

Jacques house looks beautiful 😂
Love knucks, and now getting to c mr lemaire, love him too… Thxs for everything you’ve done for our game Jacques
As a kid I remember Jacques scoring a goal with a slap shot from center ice. Number 25 forever. Btw, how come that number isn't hanging from the rafters at the BC?
That was in Chicago in the 7th game against Tony Esposito....Montreal won the Cup
@@appletile2887 Yeees, I had forgotten the game. Thanks mate for the memory jog. Cheers.
one of my favourite players of all time
J Lemaire should be on tv all the time
What made ‘95 so special was the bounce back from the devastating loss to the Rangers the previous year.

On a side note, where is Stan Jonathan part 2 interview.
Lemaire merci beaucoup que de bon souvenir thank you C Niland

What happened to Chris' sidekick, Tim?

Say hello to Coco, thanks for your time guys
Your number should be retired. Loved to watch you play.
Was Jacques a better player or coach? Really close for me
The guy was a huge ASSET for hockey in both roles !
Can you ask the guests the one skill that really helped them in their career? Thanks.
Hey Chris where is Tim?????
😪 the ducks out trapped us in 2003 ...and my team forgot to score 😮💨
gohabsgo
From the center line to beat Tony O!!
Hockey is boring now. It’s all cycling. I miss the North /South game.
Nothing like old school Hockey, Red line back in. Todays game Boring. Just because the game is fast, does not mean its better. not much skills at 25 second shift. The Game is so watered down its not funny.
Totally disagree. The game is great today.

It's Canucks... NOT Canooks
Chris Nilan you should be a disciple of Jesus Christ not Jacques Lemaire.
