I appreciate you creating this video. My son (16 years old) struggles a lot with getting off his game or his phone to do the things he truly wants to do. I am going to share this video with him. He is a smart and talented kid ( who just bought some books on investing) but needs help to the consent distractions that take him away from what he truly wants to do.
I’m 18, I’m also like your son. I had a nice streak but after my birthday I took a restday and I lost my discipline. After a week I’m building it up and right now I’m a better person.
So my advice is to tell your son to keep trying, watch motivational videos and don’t give up. Even when he is distracted he has to try it again until it becomes a habit!
@@nezumi3105 I’m 18 too and I’m the EXACT same boat my friend. Was racking up 10 productive hours per day for a few days, getting all I wanted to do, done. Then I was exhausted and took the end of my fourth day easy, play some video games and watched TH-cam. The next day I only worked for 5 hours and watched more TH-cam. I may even be watching these help TH-cam videos to distract myself from the grind, so imma head out, but I know we can do this. Stay focused, go after your goal and get it. FEAR MEDIOCRITY.
Best thing you can do for your son is let him go in the world. As soon as he can, he should leave parents house. Overprotecting might be a problem. Once I started living on my own at 17, I matured within few years. It isn’t the easiest process, but the surest and fastest way to make a boy a man. Good luck with your son :)
Imagine never playing video games, never watching tv, never watching social media, and never eating yummy snacks, and never listening to music, well, “your life will improve.”
I agree about short form content. I feel more accomplished after watching a 2 hour movie or documentary than I do spending 2 hours on Instagram I believe part of this is because long form content gives your brain time to process the ideas of the content where as short form content you “get” the concepts but never fully understand them enough to apply them.
Hi Nate!! You’re right about the reels it’s way too easy to spend so much time on mindless (but entertaining) content when we could be much more productive.
Nate is probably the best role model nearly any of us can have. He's young, financially stable, has built a media empire, and is traveling on his owns terms. My dream life in a nut shell. No attachments so that he can enjoy the real, important things in life.
I like that even though it is controversial in terms of a particular spot to be speaking from, it is the truth. You don’t conceal your real opinion and I, as your thorough viewer, would like to see that. Thank you, Nate!
I've also taken a day or some away from anything electronic, and it's honestly incredible how peaceful everything is. I love grinding TH-cam, but dang if it isn't nice to just do nothing out in nature once in a while.

I think a lot of people get it wrong when thinking about instant and delayed gratification. They think delayed gratifications means it can't be fun in the moment and so they think they're only being productive when doing work that isn't fun, when in reality, you can (and should) be doing work that not only has good pay off in the future, but is also fun in the moment. When you find the overlap between instant and delayed gratification, life becomes fun.

This is a well thought out and articulated video. I think this is one of the greatest challenges of our time. We can get instant gratification so easily now with no effort, and we micro-dose ourselves with cheap easy dopamine to get through the day...and we gradually and unknowingly make ourselves lazy and unwilling to earn our mega-shots of dopamine through actually earning and achieving something meaningful.
The first 40 seconds footage of this video is one thing I feel that everyone wants to experience. Just being secluded, hitting the empty road and see where it takes you.
“Stay away from those people who try to disparage your ambitions. Small minds will always do that, but great minds will give you a feeling that you can become great too.” If you reading this you will succeed it might be hard but keep glowing and growing
Really great video Nate. You gave us a lot to think about. I downloaded tiktok when it first became popular. I use to spend hours on there scrolling. My comments on video use to get a few thousand likes. It made me feel good for a while but then I realised it was taking over my life. I was putting off important tasks. I deleted it a long time ago. Honestly, I wish I had your wisdom when I was your age
I think you have explained quite well the point and I totally agree. If I could add something, I would suggest everyone looking for a little bit more of mental freedom, to use this Christmas time to detox from the "virtual reality" and enjoy the comfort of loved ones ... and a lot of chocolate too lol
I personally think your statement on avoiding short contents are relevant. I have experienced the guilt after finding myself drowning for hours on tiktok or reels. It feels like afterwards you just get bored more easily and less motivated to do your responsibilities. I highly relate to you on this one bro.. Really gotta avoid those short contents. Might seem harmless but when you think more of it, its taking away a lot of your time, motivation, and work ethic.

Yeah I also feel like when watching a lot of short form content makes me not feel the best. If I watch a little and get out of it I feel fine but If I sit there and scroll for 10, 20, 30, 50 minutes and beyond is when I feel crappy.

Thanks for sharing. Throwing in these types of videos is a nice touch. Kind of a more holistic take on investing and living well. Because after all, health and mental health are key to living well and I think these areas can suffer if you're just investing for the sake of making the most money possible (which tends to be a moving target). IMO it's important to check in with our "why" frequently along the wealth building journey.
Yes removing the thing completely is what has helped me. I used to just delete my social media apps off my phone and it would work for a few days but then I would redownload them and binge. It wasn't until I completely deleted my accounts and made it impossible for me to get the apps on my phone that I was able to get off Instagram and Facebook. I don't miss them at all.
I have a question. It is kind of personal so I'd understand if you don't want to answer. This has nothing to do with money but more with you as an individual. In one of you videos you said that in your teens you decided that you'd make sure you don't have to introduce yourself to all these people you wanted to get mentored by so you started working on your persona and your personal brand. What's kind of interesting and a little contradictory (I may be wrong) to me is that, at the same time, you seem to be someone who values his privacy and independence so here comes my question, were you ever hesitant about working on your personal brand (with your name and everything) because of the possibility of being so known that you might eventually lose your privacy and independence because of how popular/famous you'd become? I think you get what I'm saying.
