      Talking of scammers, on a not unrelated matter perhaps, you might want to have a chat with youtube about the kind of adverts that both precede and pop up during your video. Those usual 'do you want to make money without investing your own money? etc' adverts.

    My grandfather (grandmother’s brother ) told me this before he passed away: “ If loneliness could kill a man I would have been found dead a long time ago”. I wish I could go back in time and actually find him company because even my visits were not enough. He couldn’t have children and his marriage didn’t work out. Friends can only do so much because they visit and go back home, but there comes a time when you are much older where the sound of your own thoughts rings the loudest. When you can no longer do as much as you could so you simply sit and time passes by slowly. We have been in isolation longer than we realize it and that surely can’t be good.

  • @medtown

    Medically speaking, digital devices have a huge impact on our mental health and this is video that people need in the pandemic. During quarantine, our lives migrated to the digital, classes are online and if you're doing social distancing, your social life migrated to your phone. Therefore, the use rate for those medias grew and mental health issues that come with it increased as well. After the pandemic, we need to implement digital minimalism more than ever

    • @chrisschmeitz1139
      @chrisschmeitz1139 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree, i've never had any problems and can easily live without but one of the drawbacks to this so called "crisis" (i don't agree but that's another story that takes way too long to explain) is that we are forced to be digital. Heck, i wouldn't be here if i had the chance, i'd be out doing what nate tells us. I never was so attached to my phone, it's six years old and not used much, but i see lots of people that are, and they are very withdrawn, more deperrssed, less social, and more aggressive (woke idiocy is all over the online world, not so much the real one) for no good reason. We should be a lot less digital, and go back to the way it always was. Not saying we should abandon all modern communication, but we should limit it a lot more

    This is a fantastic video and what you're talking about is 100% on point! Limiting screen time is also very beneficial to those struggling with anxiety/depression as it lowers dopamine spikes to a more natural level bringing overall balance in our brain chemistry. That in turn helps find more joy in things not involving constant connection to a smartphone or computer like marveling the sunrise or talking a walk in nature and those activities really help us to relax and get some perspective on our lives. Keep it up :)

    I'm a living example of this. I gave up all social media 10 years ago except to have a YT account to selectively watch videos. I'm happier, I sleep like a log every night, I have much less anxiety and my creativity has increased. I don't have many friends but I've never been one to have or even want many. I also put that down to the fact that most people out there are social media creatures which means I just don't vibe with them energetically. Hopefully I'll make more connections with like-minded people in the future.

    Very inspirational. Working from home this year - it's been challenging to stop from doom scrolling, so when I have a little free time during my work day I try to make myself do chores around the house, mindfulness breathing, or read a page from a book instead. I've relapsed a few times, but I feel that on the whole my life is improving. I realized that I was just opening my phone to stare at something and I didn't really care about what I saw. Your video makes me want to try even harder to free myself from social media and only check it once or twice a day at most.

    You are one of the few content I watch. I have decreased my SM usage and I have so much peace. Your videos give awareness and they are worth watching. Now, I think in my entire life I have comenta to less than 10 TH-cam videos, but I should not pass the opportunity to thank you for so much insights.

    I know exactly what you mean Nate, I deleted my socials 4 years ago, my mental health improved and I achieved so many goals, I attribute a lot of it to the internal clarity I got from focusing on myself rather than other people's opinions of myself. Of course I watch TH-cam, I don't really consider it a social media since I don't post anything, but I do try to limit it too. Too much of anything is bad. Keep up the good work, stay blessed!

    You're the wisest 22 year old I know. I'm 21 and you're such an inspiration for me because I can relate to this a lot. Before the pandemic, it wasn't that big of a problem, but through the pandemic, I really felt the impact of loneliness, social anxiety, phone addiction, etc. Keep pushing bro!

    You made some really good points, Nate. You’re so mature and responsible for your age! I’ve also realized that too much up close phone use can really worsen your eyesight. So I try to ‘actively focus’ on my vision improvement instead of too much social media and phone use. I wish I learned this lesson long before. 😅

    Deleting social media was the best decision of my life, never going back to it. I've been more at peace with myself since then. Also nice shots of my city bro. NYC 😍

    I’m glad you made this video. I’m a little older than you (28) and I think my generation was one of the last ones where most of us didn’t spend our childhoods looking at screens. I worry about the long term affects of this; studies have already shown that spending lots of time on the internet actually changes the way your brain functions. I worry about kids who are growing up now who have an iPad shoved in their faces.
    Anyway, I deleted my social media a few months ago and it has been great- I 100% agree with you that real life experiences and relationships are rich and fulfilling in a way that digital ones will never be. I hope people realize the value of living a real life before it is too late for them.

    This is such an important topic to be discussed these days, and also something I’ve been thinking about the last couple of days! Thanks for covering this, I really do feel we collectively need to spend more time in the real world having real experiences. Social media can really bring out the worst in us (just look at yt comments sections, quora and forums these days, haiz- I always feel disillusioned after reading them and I swear I get a physical headache sometimes.

    So much wisdom at 22! It's a struggle finding the right balance with social media...less time on it seems to always provide more peace/productivity.
