This is great! As a travelling dancer I hunted high and low to find decent bags to protect my costumes. I have push handles so I found the best bags are actually nappy bags that are designed to go on the handles of a buggy. I have a really lovely black one that has been a life saver when travelling. No one would even know it was a nappy bag because the branding is so discreet.
@@littlepeaches9371 I have a baby bag too, for my bigger, non-valuable stuff. My mother instilled a paranoia in me about having a bag on my back (that I can't see people stealing stuff from), so my purse, keys etc go in a pouch under the seat. There's loads of "mum bags", and other buggy accessories that work well for wheelchairs. Etsy is a great place for bags, and Amazon/eBay are good for other accessories, even if it's always a bit of a gamble as to whether something will work out or not. Trying to find brackets that are practical for carrying my crutches on my active user chair is an ongoing challenge, though. (Had a set that worked great on my off-the-peg folding chair, but they need both the correct framework and the tip wheel brackets. Neither of which feature on my active chair)
Lovely Gem! So glad you are feeling better. 💖 How exciting to plan your big birthday. 🎂 I have a big birthday is next July. I love birthdays. Can’t wait! 💜 Side guards don’t need to have a lip to work fully. I found that having a lip over the wheel inhibited the optimum pushing position. I got wheelchair services to professionally trim these off. They were undamaged and looked like an original part. It proved to be worthwhile for my style of pushing. Fortunately my other chairs had flat side guards so no adjustments needed. Horses for courses though and appreciate this might not suit everyone xx
It has POCKETS!!!!! Love skirts with hidden pockets! I love the tropical print on it too! My three favourite things for my chair are the drink/phone holder, my hidden wallet that goes on my seat, between my legs and my new cane sheath that my son made for me. My canes fold up and they can be a bother to get out of the usual cane holders when you have your backpack on. This sheath my son made for me out of leather will hold both canes folded up while it is attached to my left leg support. He designed it so that there is a loop at the top to hook around my seat bar and then a side strap to tighten around the leg shaft. It is so easy to pull out a cane to use as support to reach for things where I need to stand, I told him he needs to patent the designs. It is wonderful! I am going to try to make it in a waterproof material, because of the leather tooling he has done on here, I don't want to get salt and crud on it, even though he did oil it really well. On the other side, I have my cup/phone holder. I'm ready to rock and roll! But I am still looking for that just right backpack, so far my husband has cursed at the last two I have. Lol! But I have found the neatest shopping cart! It is actually a pet carrier stroller with a parcel compartment underneath. A fellow wheelchair user had one in the store I was in, and it folds up like a stroller, about 10lbs in weight. The basket is not too high, you can put quite a bit of groceries in there and plenty of room in the basket underneath. He said he found it on Amazon and he wouldn't get rid of it for the world! It is my next big purchase! But at $179, I have to save up for it.
My current backup chair, I inherited it from my grandma, and it came with one of those $50 Ki Mobility pouches (don't know the exact name that they call it), so I attached that to the mounting hardware of my Java backrest, and that contains a toolkit, along with other necessities (library card, chapstick, etc. - things I would need if I went out without my backpack), and the little pocket on the outside is just big enough for my phone. I also have the Advantage Bag Down Under shelf (at least at the time, it was cheaper to order it from Sportaid than directly from Advantage Bag, in case anyone's wondering), which I use every time I go out in my chair, and it's the perfect size to fit my medical binder that I take to appointments (I would use a regular underseat bag, but I keep my feet tucked too far under me to be able to use that kind, so the shelf it is). I also have the guzzie+Guss cup holder, and that comes in handy all the time (most of the drink containers I use are straight-sided, for lack of a better term, so cup holders that are designed for things with slanted sides - like the Ffora one - wouldn't really work for me) - the one downside is that it doesn't quite fit the width of a full size nalgene, but it does get pretty close. I also have light blue spoke skins on the inner spokes of my wheels (TiLite Shadow wheels), which adds a pop of color, protection for the spokes, and gives my chair a slimmer look. For lights (strictly a safety feature, though they do look cool, too), I have blue bike wheel string lights on my back wheels, and small round red lights on the bottom back of my tubular armrests and white ones that go on the footrest tubing on either side of the footplate (the red and white lights are also technically bike lights - brand is Ascher, if anyone's wondering) - where I live, the sidewalks are sorely lacking, and the ones that are there, their accessibility is marginal at best, so I'm often stuck wheeling in the street, and there are very few streetlights, so the lights are primarily so that cars have zero excuse to not see me, and also so that I can see the ground in front of me, since some of the streets and sidewalks aren't in the best condition. Probably the thing that made the biggest difference for me, though, would have to be my Reha Design pushrim covers - they make 2 different styles, a smooth version (which is what I have) and a "groovy" version, which is treaded for extra grip (they don't have pics of the groovy ones on their website, so not sure whether they're closer to the Grippoz or closer to the RibGrips); I got the pushrims that I got precisely because I knew I was going to be getting pushrim covers; also, I live in a dry climate (American Rockies), and out here, for most grippy pushrims, the grippy part just dries out and flakes/breaks off (in more humid climates, they're generally just fine) - that was what made me decide to just get regular pushrims and get the pushrim covers separately. One advantage that the Reha Designs ones have over the Grippoz is that they wrap almost the entire way around the pushrim (on my pushrims, the only part of the pushrim they don't cover is the thickness of the tabs that attach the pushrim to the wheel), so the possibility of them falling off isn't a concern, even when flying (I've flown with them 13 times so far and they've never started coming loose en route). The other one that would have to be the one that made the biggest difference is my wheelchair backpack - it's an Embark adaptive backpack, which works perfectly for me as a part time wheelchair user, because I can use it however I need to: I can wear it when walking, and, when using my chair, I attach it to the top bars of my Java backrest with double ended snaps (the way my backrest is adjusted, I can't use either of the 2 normal ways of hanging a backpack on the back, despite my chair having push handles), which, even when packed to the max, still hangs high enough that it doesn't drag on my SmartDrive except when in a steep wheelie - it has a ton of different pockets, but also has a large interior pocket, so it's really easy to keep all my stuff organized, and it's big enough that I've taken it as my only piece of luggage on multiple 1-3 week trips (when I fly with just my backpack, I take my wheelie bars as well, since my chair flips all the way back when I stand up otherwise, since there's no suitcase on the front to balance the weight - I have luggage forks and a luggage strap to attach a suitcase). I don't mind that the shelf and pouch only come in black, because my chair's colors are black and blue, so they blend in perfectly, and my backpack, spoke skins, and pushrim covers are blue, so it works.
My friend made a fabric cup holder for my chair, it holds anything from waterbottles, to bottles to cups, or even snacks. And it's soft so it won't break if it gets cramed into a doorframe. Plus it's easy to wash and withstands weather. The perks of having friends who sew for a living. I have bag attachments on my power wheelchair, but they're in the back. The manufacurer even warns about reaching back with your arms because that can cause damage to your arm. Which I have experienced myself with my left arm being out of commission for a year and in constant pain, from bending it behind my back trying to reach stuff, or even putting stuff in the bag behind my back. I would love to have a what is basically a pram caddy or diaper bag for prams that I can attach to the frame under my legs. That way I have my necessities at an easy access, but I just can't find the right one that woud fit my type of chair. The issue with accessories is that they're massproduced and no wheelchair is alike. One item might work for one chair but not the other. Since my chair is designed to be assistant handled so it has the bar at the back, rather than handles, for attaching the joystick. Making it difficult to make any accessorie to fit my chair.
I have the Ffora essentials bag and cup holder and really like both of them if I'm going somewhere and I don't need to take a lot of stuff. If I'm going somewhere where I might need to take more, like snacks and medication, I have the adaptive crossbody from Jansport. I put it under my seat, and it hangs like the pickepack but attaches with straps instead of Velcro. I love that Jansport has come out with two adaptive bags, the crossbody and the backpack, and that they worked with members of the disabled community to design and market them. It's great to see a mainstream brand coming out with an adaptive line. I just found out that this year they've partnered with ArtLifting, an organization that works with artists affected by disabilities and housing insecurities, to bring out three different collections this year designed by artists with disabilities.
Cup holder that has a cup holder cellphone adapter from Marshall's is used daily. I also have a bag on the left side rail that is bolted on. It holds my wallet and other everyday carry items.
The FFORA equipment is amazing! They recently gifted me the full collection for my wedding along with a custom white leather bag that connects on for my wedding and it’s so gorgeous. They gave me such a huge gift and they are honestly amazing. I couldn’t have afforded £70-£80 for a bag at the moment but I can say having them now I would definitely recommend saving for one if you possibly can. They’re amazing!!
I actually made my own under-chair bag. There's a pair of carabineers on the webbing that clip the bag into them, and it just sits there, nice and safe so my valuables aren't easily nickable. I had ambitions of selling them on Etsy, but my health got the better of me, so all I've got is the prototypes so far. That said, I discovered that the longevity of the magnetic clasp isn't what I'd hoped over prolonged use, so maybe it's a good thing I couldn't launch last year. I had all these plans about contacting you, see if you'd give it a trial run... Even got a bright pink one cut and ready to sew! Part of it was that purpose made accessories are always so expensive, so I was trying to keep costs down - make something for £25 rather than 3x or more that. Never considered the humble bum bag, though - that's really clever. My spare inner tube and tools sit in a Molle pouch I got from Amazon for about a tenner. Poppers round the webbing and I've tucked it well back so it doesn't interfere with anything. I have a bike bottle cage that is removable, but it's a lot more bulky than the Ffora one, but was a fraction of the cost. Only problem is, because it is bigger, I don't always have it on me. But sometimes it's not always a bad thing to stop for a coffee, gather the spoons...
Do you know had grand plans of launching my wrap and roll too , sounds like your idea was a good one , there are always teething problems with an idea so dont give up , but the bum bag is a quick way of having an under chair bag , thanks for sharing with us 🙂
All of it looks really cool!! :) When it comes to bags, I have a bum bag that I ordered from the company that made my wheelchair. It's stripped under the seat and it can be disattached and put back when needed. Then I also have a random backpack that became my wheelchair backpack and does the job well, it's basically a notebook backpack and so it has the typical shape of the wheelchair backpacks etc., so I don't even think that people would be able to tell that it's not a backpack specicially for wheelchairs haha. And few hours ago I discovered that Panthera sells a wheelchair backpack and it looks really cool, it really sparked my interest haha!! :)
My hack is...i love wearing maxi dresses and skirts but my wheels dont always like them so i just have a claw hairclip and clip excess material behind my legs...you dont even notice it...or hijab pins are pretty and do the job too x
I've tried many things in my time (38 YO disabled since birth) and in the end I've gone for a large under chair bag. Pros: They're huge, you can fit so much in them. Cons: They're huge, you can lose so much in the disorganised mess of the single cavernous space they provide. But at least it can fit all of my equipment and spares etc, I even have a travel scope in there which I need as a birder.
One of my past wheelchairs came with a bumbag pouch attached to it and my previous wheelchair before that came with a bag I hung on the back of my chair. I still have and use it to this day. I could do with a new one lol.
My favorite bag is the adaptive backpack from Target! It's super nice because it has straps like a regular backpack but these can also tuck into the back and there are loops for your chair handles. It's also really low profile but can hold a TON of items!
I have a couple of bags from pyc mobility which I love. I have the large underseat bag which is great for shopping and the hook & loop underseat pouch which is similar to the pickepack. They also have several other styles including a couple of backpack style options. They're really strong and well made but what I love most is you can get them in many different colours your not stuck with everything being black!
I also have a beanbundle wheelchair organiser bag which I attach onto the back bar of my wheelchair to carry a bottle of water and crisps or other snacks for long days when I may not have access to food & drink.
Another fab video Gem 🫶 I second the pushrims they are great and I feel I have more control etc, not great in the wet but that goes with all pushrims. xx
I just ordered a few things that I think might come in handy as wheelchair accessories, including some little hooks that can be velcroed onto the handles or similar on a wheelchair. In theory perfect for hanging little bags or something on while out shopping. Looking forward to seeing how it works in practice.
Not gonna lie, haven't really tried the hooks yet. But the concept is damn promising. I just haven't been out and about and had a use for them. So I'll probably end up forgetting about them the one time I'll probably need them 😂😂
I found the Reha ones don't fit my rims perfectly - they pop off unexpectedly. I'll have to zip-tie them, which I was trying to avoid since I keep catching myself on the zips. Honestly, I got better fitting ones on Amazon for about 2/3 the price.
I recently changed my plastic cup holder. I kept catching it and have ended up breaking 2 of them 🙈 So I ended up getting a material one, that's meant for pushchairs, and its fab. I use it for bottles but I suppose it wouldn't be so good for hot drinks 😂 x
I have Carbolife-Gekkos (same as Gem, Carbolife-Curve but with a rubber insert to support pushing). I love them. SO much better for my hands and wrists than standard pushrims. Eventually I would go for Carbolife Curve only because I learned how to go downhill only on my big wheels and the rubber makes it more difficult to navigate (because there is also more grip and the pushrims not slide smooth to my hands while stopping a little bit). My favourite bag is a bycicle handlebar from Ortlieb. Waterproof, very durable, lots of space (gloves, keys, mobile phone, big wallet, waterbottle...). I stripped it under my seat. So my stuff is save. I'm always paranoid somebody take my backpack away 😮. And I don't like attach my backpack because the weight shifts my tipping point.
Hi Gem. Thanks for the recommendations. Unfortunately when trying to buy the FOfora cupholder and attachment system, the website tells me your discount code is not valid on those products. Do you know why please?
Gem my birthday is in November as yours but my birthday last year was my 50th! I have removed my side guards, I have a really good cup holder which was be great when we go to Florida,I’m saving my cookies for USA in August it will attach to side of my wheelchair, and I can roll freely 👨🏻🦽✈️🇺🇸
hey Gem love the video as always so helpful and looked like you had a good day out with your sister and dad. I'm guessing your big birthday is the same one I have in October. I think my wife has plans for me but she hasn't told me yet so could be anything.
Wondering what other bags would replace the piche pacha?(sorry I struggle with its name). I was thinking of using one of those bedside hangers that hangs off the side of the bed and is an organizer? Pockets aren’t covered but it’s like a barebones similarity to them?
When I go shopping, I view things from a kids height. Before my wheelchair I stood 6 ft and 1 in tall. I feel sorry for the kids because they really miss a lot of things.
Silly question from a non-wheelchair user: do you get splashes (water, mud etc) onto the lovely clip on bags on front of the wheels? Or do most of stuff come off from the back of the wheels rather than the front. I love little gadgets and things and it makes me happy to see all the accessories for wheelchairs even though I hope I will never need them! 😂
Had To Suggest Because You Like Chease Scones Have You Tried Pumpkin Scones Tell Shawn To Add A Can Of Pumpkin Soup To The Mix Before The Water So He Will Know How To Blend It In . It’s A Must Try Because They Are Awesome When Dun Right...
I'm really struggling to find someone who does this sort of content for powerchair users as a lot of these gadgets don't work on my chair, also I find that because I have to use a hoist some videos don't show whats possible for me... I think your content is great and I will continue watching but can you please let me know if you know of any other TH-camrs who may be in a similar situation to me xxx
As a wheelchair user myself I find the concept of under seat bags a difficult concept to grasp. I've always found that bending forward to reach down throws me off balance and, then, my legs get in the way. I'd much rather have a rucksack on the back of my chair that simply pulls off for me reach inside.
I hope you spoiled your dad well, greetings from Canada Jon and Rina. P.S. The rims and clothe protectorsyou showed I alreaddy have on my wheelchair for about 4 yesrs. I find the clothe protectors a little to big. I would like to hear your opinion about this, Jon.
well mine are only about and inch wide and they are very low to the wheel , so i dont feel like they hinder or get in the way , if they where wider or higher they probably would.

that's a couple of mentions for this bag it sounds great👍
Rehadesign also make push rim covers you can even get matching spoke skins (in really bright colours as well) - hope this helps someone x

i love my Ffora bag and cup holder , think the bags just look a little bit special for a night out, thx for sharing😚🙂
Happy Father's Day! To Your Dad.
Cup holder that has a cup holder cellphone adapter from Marshall's is used daily. I also have a bag on the left side rail that is bolted on. It holds my wallet and other everyday carry items.
sounds awesome 👍
The FFORA equipment is amazing! They recently gifted me the full collection for my wedding along with a custom white leather bag that connects on for my wedding and it’s so gorgeous. They gave me such a huge gift and they are honestly amazing. I couldn’t have afforded £70-£80 for a bag at the moment but I can say having them now I would definitely recommend saving for one if you possibly can. They’re amazing!!
I love my JanSport adaptive bag. I can attach it to my wheelchair, rollator or myself, and it holds all I need!
ooh will check out the backpack thx for sharing 🙂
Bought the Pickepacke when I saw it on your other video. I absolutely love it, best purchase ever
Love this ❤ really helpful
My hack is...i love wearing maxi dresses and skirts but my wheels dont always like them so i just have a claw hairclip and clip excess material behind my legs...you dont even notice it...or hijab pins are pretty and do the job too x
that's a great tip ,thx for sharing🙂
I've tried many things in my time (38 YO disabled since birth) and in the end I've gone for a large under chair bag. Pros: They're huge, you can fit so much in them. Cons: They're huge, you can lose so much in the disorganised mess of the single cavernous space they provide. But at least it can fit all of my equipment and spares etc, I even have a travel scope in there which I need as a birder.
Gorgeous dress! Love your videos!
That dress was beautifully 😍
How exciting for your big birthday
That restaurant was amazing!
It was very special. Perfect if your celebrating 🥳
It's also really low profile but can hold a TON of items!
sounds like an awesome bag ,wish we had target over here somebody has mentioned that backpack also , feel free to DM me a picture on instagram🙂
Gem I have rim grips for my wheelchair and they are great 👨🏻🦽
Another fab video Gem 🫶 I second the pushrims they are great and I feel I have more control etc, not great in the wet but that goes with all pushrims. xx
I just ordered a few things that I think might come in handy as wheelchair accessories, including some little hooks that can be velcroed onto the handles or similar on a wheelchair. In theory perfect for hanging little bags or something on while out shopping. Looking forward to seeing how it works in practice.
let me know we love a good hack 🙂
Not gonna lie, haven't really tried the hooks yet. But the concept is damn promising. I just haven't been out and about and had a use for them. So I'll probably end up forgetting about them the one time I'll probably need them 😂😂
Hello Gem. You look stunning in your dresses! Hope you have a lovely birthday holiday.
It is GREAT to see you back to yourself! Although you were still perfectly sweet even when you didn't feel your best.
thank you 🙂
@Wheelsnoheels You're very welcome, thank you for what you do!
COOL WHEELCHAIR BAGS
Reha Design has smooth silicone push rim covers. I’ve got some and they work great
I found the Reha ones don't fit my rims perfectly - they pop off unexpectedly. I'll have to zip-tie them, which I was trying to avoid since I keep catching myself on the zips.
Honestly, I got better fitting ones on Amazon for about 2/3 the price.
I use reha push rim cover, and spoke skins they are good but probably not fir the odd shape ones
I recently changed my plastic cup holder. I kept catching it and have ended up breaking 2 of them 🙈 So I ended up getting a material one, that's meant for pushchairs, and its fab. I use it for bottles but I suppose it wouldn't be so good for hot drinks 😂 x
Important and interesting video Gem.
Home made CF seat and side guards… though the freewheel comes in clutch as well.
I'm tempted to try the lap stacker.
I got a bag from Bundlebean for my armrest.
Sadly not much fits a powerchair with centre mounted footplates. 😞
Sad FFora doesn’t ship to me 😢 I like your bag 😊
And I don't like attach my backpack because the weight shifts my tipping point.
all true ,I've been looking at getting the rubber on my push rims but i can't decide , thx for sharing🙂
Hi Gem. Thanks for the recommendations. Unfortunately when trying to buy the FOfora cupholder and attachment system, the website tells me your discount code is not valid on those products. Do you know why please?
I'm really sorry i was told it was still valid from my video two weeks ago , i will try and look into it ❤
Gem my birthday is in November as yours but my birthday last year was my 50th! I have removed my side guards, I have a really good cup holder which was be great when we go to Florida,I’m saving my cookies for USA in August it will attach to side of my wheelchair, and I can roll freely 👨🏻🦽✈️🇺🇸
have a lovely time in Florida 🙂
@@Wheelsnoheels we will Gem, but Disney has made it so hard to get the DAS pass nowadays but I’m going to challenge it before we go 👨🏻🦽✈️🇺🇸❤️
@@richardholder8970 well dont give up on the first call you can always keep applying , sometimes it will depend on the cast member ,,good luck🙂
hey Gem love the video as always so helpful and looked like you had a good day out with your sister and dad. I'm guessing your big birthday is the same one I have in October. I think my wife has plans for me but she hasn't told me yet so could be anything.
i hope you get to do something great 🙂
Wondering what other bags would replace the piche pacha?(sorry I struggle with its name). I was thinking of using one of those bedside hangers that hangs off the side of the bed and is an organizer? Pockets aren’t covered but it’s like a barebones similarity to them?
interesting idea 🤔
Have you tried the kinetic balance bags? I'm thinking about getting one.
i dont think i have, let us know how you get on👍
When I go shopping, I view things from a kids height. Before my wheelchair I stood 6 ft and 1 in tall. I feel sorry for the kids because they really miss a lot of things.
It very pretty
Silly question from a non-wheelchair user: do you get splashes (water, mud etc) onto the lovely clip on bags on front of the wheels? Or do most of stuff come off from the back of the wheels rather than the front.
I love little gadgets and things and it makes me happy to see all the accessories for wheelchairs even though I hope I will never need them! 😂
i don't really get a lot of splash from the wheels , but it is mostly from the back wheels and not the front
@@Wheelsnoheels thanks for answering and satisfying my curiosity! ❤️
Disability horizons do great rim covers
I thought they’d dissolved their company, am I wrong?
@@wheelie26 I got push rim covers just this year
@@Jayleigh2796 maybe the shop carried on when the magazine finished.
@@wheelie26 maybe I got them online

will do thx for sharing that 😋
I'm really struggling to find someone who does this sort of content for powerchair users as a lot of these gadgets don't work on my chair, also I find that because I have to use a hoist some videos don't show whats possible for me...
Lovely itxx
I hope you spoiled your dad well, greetings from Canada Jon and Rina. P.S. The rims and clothe protectorsyou showed I alreaddy have on my wheelchair for about 4 yesrs. I find the clothe protectors a little to big. I would like to hear your opinion about this, Jon.
well mine are only about and inch wide and they are very low to the wheel , so i dont feel like they hinder or get in the way , if they where wider or higher they probably would.
❤
