What I thought I would love, and I think many wheelies feel the same way, was walking again. Been on my feet the past 2 years and it was absolutely agony. Often I longed to get home so that I could get in my wheels again. Walking gave me so much nerve pain and it was so energy consuming. I'm done with walking. It's back in my wheels. Way less painful, a lot less energy consuming and it actually gives me more mobility instead of less, because the excruciating pain isn't limiting what I can and can't do (I always had to think of where I was gonna sit and if the chair wasn't that well designed it was very painful or I had to stand for however long something took.
i totally get that , thanks for sharing, Its society who tell us that walking is the best, and to stay away from wheelchairs. Even dr tell us that. But it goes to show you that wheelchairs can enable us, and help us access more.👍

I don't like mince pies but I will regularly buy and eat mini eggs before Easter.
I'm halfway through, but before I forget: my sister did hair and make up at college and is now at Brighton doing Hair & Make-up for Film & TV. But it's not just make up, think prosthetics, regency styles etc. The hair and make up person from Bridgerton is covering the wig styling part of the course and someone from Madam Tussauds wax works expert is teaching prosthetics. So if Daisy is interested, but not overly excited, remind her that hair and make up is a load broader when you get further down the line with Uni and genre of work she follows etc. 2) team Gem!!! 3) Love the Elton Marmite! I had a pink one the other day, the marmite wasn't pink tho :( 4) Worthing! My sister may come and say hello as a thank you from both of us for all your help over the years. ❤
I have a pair of proper off-road wheels. I can't say they've had much use this year, but I do find they're a vast improvement if you do go to muddier places. The only thing is that because the actual rims are smaller, you need a different sitting position if you're self-propelling - I got myself a new, thin cushion that does the trick but i know that's not ideal or possible for everyone. They're also better on snow, since they've got better grip. But again, that's from a propelling perspective rather than the Batec.
The zip ties is the reason I love my Reha Design pushrim covers - they wrap all the way around my pushrims (the only gap they leave is the thickness of the tabs that attach the pushrim to the wheel), and never once have they come close to falling off, even when going down long steep hills wearing Mechanix Boxcutter gloves (which have super strong grip all over the entire palm and fingers).
That's so weird - my Reha ones _don't_ fit well. They look like they do, but they ping off at the most inconvenient times. They're lovely and thick, and feel great on my hands, but they're so annoying. My summer rims (sky blue) were cheaper off Amazon, and they stay put beautifully, but don't feel quite as nice. And my rims aren't a weird size or anything - they're just standard. (That said, it's time to break the Rehas out again - summer is definitely over, time for the cheerful, warming red)
@@CharityAngelSpectrum Huh. I wonder if the different colors fit differently, or if the fit was improved/downgraded. When did you get your red ones? I got my blue ones Christmas '21.

I loved the video, Gem. You and your husband have such a wonderful relationship! Thank you for sharing! There are two things that I used to love, but now they are put in the closet until I really need them. The first is my shopping/utility kart. I have now upgraded to a foldable stroller type of shopping kart with adjustable straps to lock onto my leg arms and all four wheels that can swivel! I love that thing, makes shopping so much easier than struggling with a full-sized shopping kart that you can't reach the bottom of the basket. The second thing is that I switched from using my backpack to using a slim purse that holds my wallet and phone. I can hang it on the back of my chair or hang it from my seat between my legs. I had a friend who is a leathersmith and he designed and made this purse for me. I still take the backpack for long trips, but it usually stays under the backseat of the truck, and usually, I never touch it, but it is good to have in case of an accident. Also, I am team Shaun. I did buy some Christmas candy and three new red pinecone garlands for the tree! Lol! I am also stocking up on baking ingredients to start my holiday baking!! It is never too early for Christmas!! 😜🤭
ooh the folding shopping stroller sounds like it really works for you , and the purse 🙂, its great to have handy friends hehehe, shaun will be happy he has some people on his side ❤

Totally agreed on the sign language. In an ideal world, I'd love for every classroom to have an interpreter, or a teacher who can Sign, so kids just pick it up by osmosis. But, having been a teacher BW (Before Wheelchair), I know that's not exactly practical even if I wish it were. It's the reason I started learning myself - I'd love for D/deaf kids to be able to access mainstream education and thus have the same opportunities as abled kids. Also, it would mean that people who lose their hearing later in life won't end up isolated because of it. Or the people like me who lose their voice to stupid thyroid conditions (or other reasons) can get by more easily too. I might have a bit of BSL, but finding someone else who does is a nightmare. And it's not like I can afford classes any more either - they're really expensive.
Agreed. And I have a gif I shove on the family WhatsApp whenever anyone starts doing Christmas stuff, so that's quite a big thing for me. (I feel Gem would approve of the gif - it's Zazu, yelling "Not Yet", mid "I Just Can't Wait To Be King". It was always him I heard in my head, so now he's a gif)
My thoughts when I saw the slinger was that it looks heavy! Cross body straps for phones are pretty popular where I am, inexpensive too. It's typically a fairly thick cord with attachments that make it length adjustable... And it attaches to your phone via a little piece of plastic/foam thingy, with a small loop that sticks out of the charging port... Which you can then hook onto the strap. It doesn't retract and the small hooks are probably very difficult for someone with dexterity issues to put on and off, but it might be helpful for you if you want your phone on a sling!

have you considered trying migraine glasses? they're tinted a rose pink color and can help with light sensitivity. I'm on my 2nd pair of prescription lens with the darkest tint and I don't plan on ever looking back. I do have to get a 2nd pair without the tint, specifically for nighttime though (but I bought mine through Zenni and both pairs cost me less than $85USD). they don't cure my migraines, but they do make them easier to deal with, which some days is all I can really ask for lol
I have FL41s too, and I love them. They look terrible with my colouring, but they are amazing migraine-wise. I bought them for computer work, but I wear them on bad days too and they make such a difference I can't even begin to tell you. The only thing is that they're not cheap - they were about £150 on top of the standard costs, so it's quite the investment. I started out with some clip-on ones from Amazon, to see if they worked for me. I tried the FL41 and the green filters, since different people have different sensitivities. It's a much cheaper way to test them than forking out for prescription specs! Might be worth a shot?

When it's chilly and cold, it's never too early to have fruit mince pies and fresh cream on hand for dessert of an evening. 06:53 Kitchen shears to cut up a bacon rasher I have never seen that idea before. It's such a smart and simple idea. I need to get a pair for that! 09:47 Eye checkup I needed to get that done back in May. I was nearly 2 years overdue for the eye test and prescription update by then. I used to use my local Specsavers which was in Toombul, till the entire shopping centre was closed for demolition, in the aftermath of the February 2022 floods. Moving house in May 2022 due to mobility issues and not related to the floods, then slowly rebuilding my spare funds, made me put off getting my eyes checked till it was far later that it ought to have been. Having 8 pair of glasses though, does cost a fair bit to get done, even if in the majority of cases you're only getting them reglazed ( new lenses put in the existing frames ). 11:25 Bodysuits Been there done that with lingerie back in the mid 1990s, and the problems you described with the tshirt bodysuits, shows the problems have not changed one bit since then, nor have they been resolved. A nice idea in theory, but so awkward in practice. 19:00 Walking out of Specsavers without paying While my eye tests here in Australia are bulk billed, so I don't have to pay for them, simply walking out of Specsavers, without getting out my purse and my Medicare card and my bank ATM debit card, after such a test doesn't get to happen, as there's always at least one pair of frames I have to pay for. With this year's eye tests, I had 2 new frames to pay for. 20:30 Muddy conditions tyres You can get the Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres specifically for the Spinergy wheels, so you get the off road/muddy conditions grip and traction, with the advantages of the Spinergy wheels. wheelchair.spinergy.com/collections/wheelchair-tires/products/schwalbe-mpe I'd regard them as a not essential, but handy to have accessory.

But honestly if she is doing well on dry food I would stick to it. Hello Gem. I have a really good coffee maker. It puts the coffee in the cup, adds water and or milk and stirs. It's called meeeee. I use a kettle and cup and spoon. 14:35 I feel you on the zip ties! My left rim is currently being held on with some. It has been 3-4 months now and I'm no longer cutting my fingers thankfully, but it was happening a lot at the start. I really need to start the process of getting a new chair, but I just can't be bothered with the process.
My off-road rims are zip tied, and they're terrible on my hands, even though I've cut the ties as close as humanly possible. And I wear gloves with them. But I don't use the wheels often enough at the moment to justify the expense of a new set of rim covers. I'll be honest - the last time they were used was because one tyre had a bit of an accident and I had to go to a bike shop for help fixing it. And I needed a set of wheels so could actually _go_ to the bike shop... (That was Easter)
You need a bean to cup machine. Mine cost $270, but buying beans is less than 10p a cup! Best of all a single press of button delivers the coffee of your choice black or with frothy milk! Being tetraplegic, I need both simplicity and a low price… but more than anything, I NEED great coffee!!!

06:53 Kitchen shears to cut up a bacon rasher
I have never seen that idea before. It's such a smart and simple idea. I need to get a pair for that!
09:47 Eye checkup
I needed to get that done back in May.
11:25 Bodysuits
Been there done that with lingerie back in the mid 1990s, and the problems you described with the tshirt bodysuits, shows the problems have not changed one bit since then, nor have they been resolved.
A nice idea in theory, but so awkward in practice.
19:00 Walking out of Specsavers without paying
While my eye tests here in Australia are bulk billed, so I don't have to pay for them, simply walking out of Specsavers, without getting out my purse and my Medicare card and my bank ATM debit card, after such a test doesn't get to happen, as there's always at least one pair of frames I have to pay for. With this year's eye tests, I had 2 new frames to pay for.
20:30 Muddy conditions tyres
You can get the Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres specifically for the Spinergy wheels, so you get the off road/muddy conditions grip and traction, with the advantages of the Spinergy wheels.

I'd regard them as a not essential, but handy to have accessory.
thankyou so much for your comments , i didn't think it got cold in Brissy , Shaun always says the slogan is Beauuutifull one day ,perfect the next hahah im glad you like my bacon hack too and thankyou for the info and the link for the offload tyres ,,beautie🙂👍
@@Wheelsnoheels You'd laugh at what Brisbanites call cold, Gem.
To us, 8°C to 12°C (46.4°F to 53.6°F) is freezing cold mid winter. Below 5°C (41°F) is bitterly cold. We _never_ see 0°C (32°F) or lower.
I think the dog food company was butternut box? We used to feed it to our dog but the prices went up and the quality was not the best anymore. So we swapped to years dog food it is much better and doesn’t need to go in the freezer! I pretend my dog is bigger than he is so I get about 2months of food but technically it should only be 2 weeks worth it makes a big difference on price. But honestly if she is doing well on dry food I would stick to it. The only reason we switched to fresh was one of our dogs couldn’t keep any dry food down and of course then both dog had to be on it as it smelt to good! Though I have to say their costs are amazing. But it costs a fortune! 🙈🙉 (Our other dog Cuddles has different dog food as they do a kidney disease diet but unless you need that I wouldn’t recommend them)

Hello Gem. I have a really good coffee maker. It puts the coffee in the cup, adds water and or milk and stirs. It's called meeeee. I use a kettle and cup and spoon.
When it comes to pouring water into a mug, I put the mug in the sink. This way, I am not trying to lift the kettle higher than my seated self.
Good tip for musculoskeletal issues too!
hahahaaa and a great tip at the end there ,thanks for sharing🙂
Hello from Switzerland love your family 😊
14:35 I feel you on the zip ties! My left rim is currently being held on with some. It has been 3-4 months now and I'm no longer cutting my fingers thankfully, but it was happening a lot at the start. I really need to start the process of getting a new chair, but I just can't be bothered with the process.
What brand are yours?
My off-road rims are zip tied, and they're terrible on my hands, even though I've cut the ties as close as humanly possible. And I wear gloves with them. But I don't use the wheels often enough at the moment to justify the expense of a new set of rim covers.
I'll be honest - the last time they were used was because one tyre had a bit of an accident and I had to go to a bike shop for help fixing it. And I needed a set of wheels so could actually _go_ to the bike shop... (That was Easter)
it can be a long process thanks for sharing🙂

You need a bean to cup machine. Mine cost $270, but buying beans is less than 10p a cup! Best of all a single press of button delivers the coffee of your choice black or with frothy milk! Being tetraplegic, I need both simplicity and a low price… but more than anything, I NEED great coffee!!!
Cheers to that ☕🙂
How did you survive without a coffee machine :O 😱 ??? It's basically the only thing that gets me off the bed in the morning hahah
i knowwww😉
