Which means there’s a precedent for that as well even though the episode was called “the five doctors” logically there should be a precedent for ALL the doctors.
A nation of fans cried 😢when the curator spoke. He is so many people doctor. We got Tom Baker and the beautiful late John Hurt 😔 which makes this so special 😊😊😊😊😊
Younger generations cried, too. I started watching Doctor Who in 2012 and binged it. I had never seen any Classic Who, I'm just 39 years old now. But of course I knew who Tom Baker was. 😅 I have since seen at least the 7th Doctor's run, too. I found that German dubbed. It wasn't all that good. 😅 Classic Who is just not for me. Too cheap. I don't even watch Star Trek for that reason, although I know, it's apparently pretty cerebral.
@@alanbeaumont4848Patrick Troughton was AMAZING. 😅 Probably in my Top 3. At least Top 5. There was really only one Classic Doctor, I didn't dig. I didn't like. And you're gonna be surprised but it was actually the third Doctor. I just didn't like his energy. And old guy who does Kung-Fu? It seemed SO awkward. Also the way he speaks is a bit strange. Always SO commanding and it sounds like he had a slight lisp... I may be nitpicking because as I said, I never really watched whole Classic Who episodes. I'm basically drawing all this from clips or reviews. But maybe that just justifies it even more, the reasons why I don't like Doctor 3. They're pretty shallow. My reasons for not liking Doctor 13 could be a LOT more detailed... 😅🤭
@@chanceneck8072 I really wanted to like 13, but my word that was some of the worst writing 3 episodes was enough, I did watch the final season with Jody. Perhaps knowing it was over relaxed her character. But by then it was too late
@@mradriankool I only watched series 11 but then I couldn't take it anymore... 😅 The odd thing is, I know Jodie can act! I saw her in that one Black Mirror episode, she was pretty sexy and awesome. When I watched her in Doctor Who, it seemed all life had been drained. Of course it was also due to the godawful scripts (and I still can't forgive the retconning from her regenerations. I'm also not a fan of the bi-generation because it seemed like an asspull and panders to current day political agendas and identity politics, which I want to ESCAPE from when I watch the show. But that one I can accept a bit easier, probably. Oddly enough, I also saw The Fugitive Of The Judoon and quite liked it. It was only a few weeks after my mother died. Who was a huge Jack Harkness fan. You can imagine how furious I was, when I first saw the episode. 😅 bitter irony that my mom didn't get to experience it... But they still need to explain all that bs. Me personally, I would love it, if actually the MASTER was the Timeless child. And that made him go insane. He just wanted to trick the Doctor into believing that it was her. And maybe the Ruth Doctor was actually just an accomplice of his to help him make the trick work. I don't know, something like that. I would get easier sleep, if they explained it that way but unfortunately this isn't make a wish.... Hope they don't cancel the show again. It got a lot better again, but the internet is still angry because they can't look past a gay protagonist. They read and interpret "gender agenda" into EVERYTHING they see on screen these days and not even half of it is justified. I had a lot of fun with The Devil's Chord. Like, A LOT. Creepy episode, too at times. I like that they explore alternitive outcomes nowadays and that we can travel back in time and "fix" stuff and see the consequences. The show has never done that before as far as I know. They only say "that reality has never existed" but don't really show BOTH alternatives sequentially. I'm sorry, long rant. Conversation with you is inspiring. 😅 I only wanted to say why I don't like Doctor 13.
To be fair to Ecclestone, the BBC lied about him publicly when he left which is why Ecclestone was still unhappy years afterwards. I understood that Ecclestone was tempted to come back for the 50th because he liked Moffat and enjoyed working on his episodes in season one. Ultimately he decided not to do it. He hasn’t been blacklisted from the BBC, but the BBC’s lies when he left resulted in him being blacklisted from British tv for some time and he went and worked in the USA for a while. He’s talked about it in interviews before. He has ultimately played the 9th Doctor in extended media so even if he might not appear on screen again, he’s still involved in the franchise.
Yeah, much as I’d have loved for him to come back, I fully support his reasons for deciding not to. The statement they released without his prior knowledge was a proper nasty move, and I don’t blame him for still feeling slighted.
funny how being 'blacklisted' didn't prevent him from working in a BBC production in 2009 where he played John Lennon in a biopic, then a year later being one of the stars of thriller TV series The Shadowline also for the BBC. Also he was working in Hollywood before he got the role of The Doctor. Then came The Borrowers and Blackout for the BBC, and between those BBC productions he also worked for ITV in Perfect Parents and Lucan. That's lot of work between 2006 and 2013 for someone supposedly blacklisted from British TV.
My brother-in-law was always mad about the Elizabeth 1 mad outburst in 10s "The Shakespare Code" that never got a resolution, since he thought that 10's story ended. I've never seen anyone more content than him when 10 left Liz to go solve some Zygon drama. The Day just tied up everything for him 😂
@PowerSpirit50 Wierd thing, I was dealing with a research grant for a "Liz Shaw" not so long ago. Every time I saw it I had to do a double take. Felt like asking her if she still worked for UNIT.
now you know why Queen Elizabeth, in The Shakespear's Code, calls the Doctor her worst enemy: the tenth never got back to his wife after the marriage, probably he forgot about the marriage because he could not retain memories of the wedding, he was out of Sync... you know, wibbly wobbly
Uhm nope, he retains his memories. In "the end of Time" 10s last official Episode (because he regenerates in it) , 10 says to the Ood "I got married, Queen Beth...and i tell you, she is no longer called the ..."
@@thomasnieswandt8805 That is because Day Of The Doctor actually overlaps with The End Of Time. The Shakespear's Code episode is totally out of synch with the Doctor, because Elizabeth married him during the last two adventures in his era, and she sees him with Martha a very long time before those events happen.
Paul McGaan has done dozens and dozens of adventures as the eighth Doctor for Big Finish full-cast audio dramas, and has become quite a fan favourite in the role.
Big Finish did so much for the Doctors. Thats why my ranking would be 1. Tom Baker by lightyears.... if that man tells you he is an alien, you believe it, no doubt 2. Paul McGann/ Sir John Hurt , also both had only audio Series, but just wow. You can see the Doctor infront of you thats how good they are 3. Peter Capaldi, 4. Sylvester McCoy, 5. Christopher Eccleston the audios wow. To me "Girl deconstructed" is one of the best Doctor Who storys ever / Colin Baker, the Audios are awesome, he nails the part, they improved so much of the 6th Doctor, and show how good he is, given propper material. 6. Matt Smith, 7.William Hartnell 8. David Tannent, WAY to overrated, way to human 9. Jon Pertwee 10. Spoilers* 11. Patrick Troughton. havent seen much of him, maybe higher next time. You can flip this and 12...not sure yet. 12. Spoilers* 13. Peter Davison....he doesnt click for me, mostly because there is no good chemestry with companions, most of them are annoying tbh.
the first bit with the tardis being carried by a helicopter was done with a crane in trafalgar square and matt smith was really hanging from it mid air, it was filmed earlier in the year and i remember seeing a few news articles about it at the time.
that’s why I love this series so much. Back in the end of Time part two during the scene with the council of Timelords, they mention the doctor stealing the moment and it being the final day of the war.
So now Clara is teaching at the school where the Doctor's first two companions also taught (One of them, Ian Chesterton, has his name on the sign outside as one of the governors).
Tom Baker was the Doctor I grew up watching (well, late Pertwee and then Baker) - in the 'classic' Who era, most people had a fondness for the Doctor of their childhood.
I watched this in the theatre and let me tell you, that room was filled with more electricity than Endgame, and that's really saying something. The reaction when Tom Baker appeared was probably audible from the parking lot.
Tom Baker and Matt Smith. Ultimately, they are my doctors. Even in its low budget and humble state of the 70s, Baker has some AMAZING stories, and so much what we think of as "The Doctor" came from him.
If you guys want to find it - look for "The Night of the Doctor" - it's a minisode that comes right before this episode and it will address a point you raised in your wrap up. The Eighth Doctor (McGann) was, until the reboot in 2005, the Doctor with the most stories as he played the doctor in dozens of audio stories for Big Finish productions. He may have only appeared on screen once but he was a very beloved Doctor to fans and his "canon" is extensive.
Saw it at an odeon in central london. Will always be a core memory. Hundreds of fans cos-playing (1/3 in tom baker scarfs) and lots of cheering and tears....
I’d recommend two things to watch in conjunction with this: The official short “The Night of the Doctor” which shows the 8th Doctors regeneration into The War Doctor and the fan made short “Gallifrey Stands” by TheConfessionDial which shows that final battle from the perspective of the classic doctors cleverly using lots of classic footage.
Fun Fact: In the Spin Off series, the Sarah Jane Adventures, there was a cancelled Christmas Special between Seasons 4 and 5 that would've been inspired by a Christmas Carol. The story planned to have both Tom Baker and Matt Smith appear, with Smith having a cameo and Tok Baker having a more significant role. If it had gone ahead and Tom Baker agreed to return, it would've been his first role in the Whoniverse since a special in the 90s. This story didn't happen because of the untimely death of Elizabeth Sladen, the actress who played Sarah Jane Smith.
You’ve Also gotta remember: the events of the 10th doctors final episode are going on at the same time as this one. Whist the doctor has the moment, the head time lords are trying to invade earth. Whist the doctors are flying around doing their coordinates to send Gallifrey away: the master and Rassllon are throwing lighting return of the Jedi style. Also another Easter egg: the time lords say that the moment is hidden in the omega arsenal. Omega is a classic who bad guy: one of the founders of the time lords that went evil. He was the antagonist of the first ever Doctor crossover/anniversary episode, so they included a tribute to him here!
Rekkai asking why the War Doctor parks so far away... then the Moment asking the same, If you recall, the 10th Doctor talked about marrying Queen Elizabeth I, and how her nickname was no longer appropriate.. (The virgin queen) at the beginning of the End of Time, talking to the Ood I do love how the "big red button" on the Moment was also a "Rose"
The curator is played by 4th Doctor Tom Baker. He was absent from the 20th anniversary special (they used footage from an unfinished story in that one) so this really feels like unfinished business.
Such a fantastic Special, this one - completely worthy of a 50th celebration. So much that could have gone wrong in the execution, but it completely comes together.
I saw this in the theaters in Los Angeles when it premiered worldwide at the same time. That was a good day. And for the first time in a long time, I was a kid again. I revisit this episode multiple times a year. It was nice revisiting with you guys.
I love this episode. I think it was so well executed, paying off an old Tennant joke. Plus, John Hurt did well coming in as a new Doctor since they couldn't convince Eccleston to come back.
Something no one seems to notice, something I didn't until recently, is the war doctors decree. "No more". We've heard it before. In journeys end. Dalek Caan. "I traveled back into the time War and I decreed.... no more"
The opening credits for the 50th mirror the opening credits of the very first episode, even the policeman is from then. Coal Hill school is the school where the first two companions were from.
Tennant is between Waters of Mars, and End of Time here. Hence the floppy hair; this is Tennant 2, after his regeneration into himself in Journey's End. Just one of his many adventures while he was putting off going to Oodsphere.
It was great this era how they tie everything so neatly together. Liz 10 in The beast Below says to The Doctor “and so much for the virgin queen you bad bad boy” you see that play out!
I like how 10 and 11 were more respectful and kinder to each other than any of the first 3 were. They seem to recognize that they are the same person more so than 2 and 3 ever did.
Great multi-Doctor story and I always love 10 saying to 11 “it’s good to know my future is in safe hands” which is a line from the 25th anniversary special and the first Doctor says that to the fifth
There’s a reason why queen elizabeth 1 said “ off with his head “ in the episode shakespears code with tennant and Martha jones! THose evens took place after the 50 the anniversary!
Eccleston briefly considered returning, and Moffat began plotting the episode with his Doctor participating, but it wasn't to be. He played the Doctor again in some audios, but he's unlikely to return to the TV show.
Last year (pretty sure) Eccleston stated that he would only return to the show if RTD and Julie Gardner were gone, sooo yeah. Unfortunately, I don't think he'll be coming back anytime soon.
@jay-wiki He didn't come back during the 12 years the three of them were gone, so I don't know why fans are so convinced he would come back now, just because he had an angry outburst at a panel where he basically said "fuck those guys." He's never coming back to the show. Audios are the closest we'll ever get, unfortunately.
When it came out you could see it in the theater in 3d,hence all the fancy 3d shots in and out of scenes. It was properly done too so it was quite a nice addition.
Watching this in a sold out theater here in the States was the ultimate. When Tom Baker, my Doctor, showed up, there was not a dry eye in the house. Also, you need to watch the short with the classic companion, Leela.
Upon rewatching this the War doctor wouldn’t remember meeting ‘BadWolf’ but the Tardis took 9 to find Rose, allowing BadWolf to exist. Therefore does the doctor have free will?
The Doctor does have free will. It looks like it is wrong, because it is just that the TARDIS detects threats, and travels to them. The one thing it often does, is take him to the locations he wants to visit. Just at a point where the Doctor is needed at those locations.
One of the nifty things is that the beehive/circle wall decorations in the museum are identical to the beehive/circle interior of the Tardis. Which is an even bigger nod to Tom Baker being The Doctor again in this, and hints that the museum is just the interior of the Tardis.
an astonishing episode by Moffat. He had to write an epic story which honoured the past 50 years, worked as a standalone story and fitted into the current story arc. He even made the 3d element work as part of the plot and not just a gimmick - extraordinary and a great reaction - you both pay proper attention to the show - many reactors don't listen and watch closely- they end up competing with the stories - great job gentlemen
So happy that you both finally got to enjoy the 50th anniversary. I lovely bow put on a certain area of Doctor Who. Just a couple more steps until we get to a New World again. And can we all agree that 10 and 11 together are magic?
46:57 if you listen back you’ll hear him make a reference to the 9th doctor as he says “I do hope the ears are a bit less conspicuous this time.” But obviously referencing the joke of him looking in the mirror in season one.
@35:31 The bulletin board full of every previous companion from the '60s to the present is a fun easter egg. The way Clara's gaze lingers over Susan (the Doctor's granddaughter and his original companion in the first season of the classic series) was a nice touch. Love that the only other ones you can see clearly in that shot are the other two season 1 companions, Ian and Barbara (just below Susan's picture).
So amazing to see how far you have journeyed into the Whoniverse so far. As long as you keep making your reactions , I'm gonna keep watching. Keep up the amazing work both and thank you.
This special really is great! So many plot threads brought together, all the Easter Eggs, John Hurt's performance, Tom Baker showing up at the end. As well as Osgood's scarf, a lot of the objects and photos in the Black Archive are recognisable from Classic Who. Tom Baker has a very distinctive voice, you know it's him from the moment he starts speaking off screen.
Osgood, the UNIT scientific advisor, is (like Malcolm in Planet of the Dead), in universe, a fan of the Doctor. He's must be something of a legendary figure in UNIT. So she cosplays him a little with the scarf and some other costume elements.
and did you notice that when Osgood told Kate they had the Tardis, and she was sat on the bench talking about the Ravens, Kate said "Tell Malcolm the Ravens need new Batteries"
Derren Brown is a famous mentalist and illusionist. He popped up in the Sherlock series 3 ep 1 you guys watched when the fans were sharing theories of what really happened when Sherlock jumped off the building
This was kinda (long story) my very first episode! I saw it on the 50th anniversary and I didn’t know wtf was going on but I know I had to see more! I started and will NOT ever stop! I thought the same thing about the last fella in the show. There was something special about him so I also started from the beginning asap! They had a 24/7 channel on the Mobdro app on the firestick and I just hit it full speed! I started to watch and fell in DEEEEEP love. Ten years later, this is my all time favorite show! 11 is my first Doctor but My Doctor is Tom Baker! I love them all, though! They all have things that make them special! (I also love 2, 3, 5,6,7,8,9,10,12,13 😂😂😂😂The jury is still out on this one but… it always is until I watch them a few times. 🤷🏾♀️) The title of my favorite show belonged to Buffy and lawd knows I love Buffy Anne Summers but The Doctor is that dude!! ❤️🟦❤️ A few years ago I found out William Hartnell and I are birthday twins! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 ( Jan 8) my house is painted my favorite shade of the TARDIS. I have stuff all over the house. I have my sonic screwdrivers Im a fan fan! 😂 The chat told u all the lore so I’ll save my lil two cents on that! Thank you fellas for awesome reactions!! ❤❤❤
I just stumbled on your channel and binged most of it the last few weeks and I have been absolutely stoked for you guys to watch this, I can’t imagine how excited all your subscribers have been waiting to get here.
17:45 is also a nod to Tennant's nickname on set "David Ten-inch" Remember some of the previous episodes where Tennant would be getting hunted down by Queen Elizabeth the 1st? this explains why.
I love this episode, and I have to say that yours is the best reaction I've seen to it. No shade that you didn't know the 4th doctor, a lot of people haven't gone back to the original series. But he was epic, probably the defining doctor for a lot of us. I cried when he showed up out of the blue.
It was an absolute joy to watch your reaction, definitely worth the wait. I’m glad you enjoyed it so much. While the episode slightly may undermine the Doctor’s arc of growth post-Time War, it most defnitely doesn’t take away the value from and improtance of it; on top of that, by growing and learning from your past you can make better choice in the future-this is primarily what this show is about, hope.
One of the things I love is they take the opening shot of the original with the cop walking in black and white and it slowly transforms to color and Clara is now a teacher at the school that the doctors first 2 companions taught at
Seeing the 12th doctor's eyes was such an unexpected and amazing moment when this was released. 12 is my favourite doctor of all time (including classics) so on a re-watch it remains incredibly poignant for me 🙂

True, Eccleston did not agree to the 50th, and that's why there's only a hint in the regeneration and only some still imagery that BBC owned in the film. Also, the war doctor sparked a whole recount for a minute. lol
So weird when you remember John Hurt was also Ollivander the wand seller in the Harry Potter franchise. That role and the War Doctor are so different in appearance, though only a few years passed between his last appearance in the Deathly Hallows and this episode. My apologies if someone else has mentioned these easter eggs. The opening sequence showed us two links to the very first episode; a sign advertising I.M. Foreman Scrap Merchant, and the name on the Coal Hill School sign; Caiman of the Governors I. Chesterton, and Headmaster W Cockburn. Ian Chesterton was the first male companion, along with first female companion Barbara Wright, both of whom were teachers at Coal Hill. W. Cockburn is a reference to the first director, Warris Huseein (played by Sacha Dhawan in An Adventure in Time and Space) and Anthony Coburn, who wrote An Unearthly Child. Greyhound Leader was Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart's UNIT code name. I could go on but this will turn into an doctoral thesis, due to how packed with goodies this episode is.
Guys, as you so enjoyed the 50th, and you loved the 10th and 11th Doctors interacting with each other, please react to “The Three Doctors,” (10th anniversary story - 1973) and “The Five Doctors,” (20th anniversary story - 1983). In “The Three Doctors,” you will be seeing Doctors 1, 2 and 3 (William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and the then current main 3rd Doctor, Jon Pertwee) and in “The Five Doctors,” you’ll see the first 3 Doctors again (plus a little bit of Tom Baker (No. 4) as well as the then current main 5th Doctor, Peter Davison). In the 20th anniversary story the 1st Doctor is played by actor Richard Hurndall (as William Hartnell had passed in 1975) but you will see both Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee reprise their roles in this, as well as Nicholas Courtney who played Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart (and he was also in “The Three Doctors,” as the 3rd Doctor was working for UNIT at that time). Also in the 20th you’ll see Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Please give these stories a go. They’re fun and I think you’d enjoy them for the nostalgic pieces they are.
I SAW THIS IN THEATRES! I DRESSED IN MY COSPLAY! Oh my god, such good memories. And it was in 3D so we could actually see into the paintings. It was wild.
44:56 Technically The War Doctor is the Real 9th Doctor which make Matt the 12th (because pre meta-crisis ten isn’t present (he makes Matt the (13th at worst and 12.5th at best) by a technicality )
The meta crisis doctor doesn't count the 10 just used the regeneration energy to heal himself something he explains and 11 will explain in the next episode. We also see in the Angels Taka Manhattan the doctor can use regeneration energy at random

33:20 this whole segment with the music was so siiiiiiccccck.....if only there wasn't any bad blood, it could have been Christopher with Matt & David :( but i don't blame him on not coming back
Haven't read all the comments yet, but that intro with the camera effect and then the silhouette of the policeman walking past the sign for Foreman's scrapyard and then Coal Hill School was basically a spot-on recreation of the intro to the first ever episode, which the docudrama partly showed being filmed (and which Verity wanted repeated due to the JFK assassination taking justified precedence that weekend back in 1963) Also, when Clara rides her motorbike into the TARDIS, it's in the exact same spot as the "real" Police Box that William Hartnell stops by on the night he was told he was being replaced in that docudrama. Finally, I recommend the prequel minisode "Night of the Doctor", for reasons that will become apparent when you watch it!
The answer to the whole "all 13" situation follows after some spoiler space, since it involves information that was known behind the scenes at the time this aired, but not yet shown on camera. By the time this one aired Matt Smith had already retired and his replacement (Peter Capaldi) had been cast. So they were able to film a narrow view of 12's eyes. That's the meaning of the whole "all 13" that you guys puzzled over. That brief bit is a look ahead to what the the 12th Doctor will look like.
I love the choice of John Hurt as the war doctor. I know him best as the Emperor Caligula in I, Claudius. Love him. "Reverse the Polarity was a favorite line of the Third Doctor. I've got that on a T-shirt!
I was really captivated by this episode when I first saw it. I was later disappointed to realize there was never anything at stake. You can destroy Gallifrey all you want. Some writer in a later season will always bring it back.

Yeah, the General makes a dismissive reference to the Council having their own plans.
Yes! In that episode one of the council members mentions the Doctor had the Moment…and I never knew what that meant until this episode came out.
I'd love to see all relevant scenes spliced together
When Kate says there's a precedent for three Doctors meeting, she's referring to the 10th anniversary special, The Three Doctors.
Which also included a reference to Cromer which is where the Brigadier thought he'd been teleported to in that episode. And her gag about "1970s or 80s depending on the dating protocols" is because although the 3rd Doctor adventures were aired in the 1970s they were in-fiction supposed to take place in the 1980s and some episodes got it wrong.

Younger generations cried, too. I started watching Doctor Who in 2012 and binged it. I had never seen any Classic Who, I'm just 39 years old now. But of course I knew who Tom Baker was. 😅
I have since seen at least the 7th Doctor's run, too. I found that German dubbed. It wasn't all that good. 😅
Classic Who is just not for me. Too cheap. I don't even watch Star Trek for that reason, although I know, it's apparently pretty cerebral.
@@alanbeaumont4848Patrick Troughton was AMAZING. 😅
Probably in my Top 3.
I only wanted to say why I don't like Doctor 13.
How far you both have travelled, you can't know everything, but you FELT it. Whoavians in heart and soul.
The Big Finish audios staring Ecclestone are really enjoyable...
Eccleston, not Ecclestone.
He hates RTD and the producers.
Dont forget that when the Doctor meets Liz 10 and she mentions previous monarchs he's met she includes "Liz 1, you bad bad boy".
Also the 10th doctor mentions Elizebeth 1st in the “The waters of Mars”, indicating that she no longer had the nickname “virgin queen” 😂😂
My brother-in-law was always mad about the Elizabeth 1 mad outburst in 10s "The Shakespare Code" that never got a resolution, since he thought that 10's story ended. I've never seen anyone more content than him when 10 left Liz to go solve some Zygon drama. The Day just tied up everything for him 😂
I can't help but just thinking Liz Shaw when I see Liz.
@PowerSpirit50 Wierd thing, I was dealing with a research grant for a "Liz Shaw" not so long ago. Every time I saw it I had to do a double take. Felt like asking her if she still worked for UNIT.
@@simongiles9749 I miss her ):
now you know why Queen Elizabeth, in The Shakespear's Code, calls the Doctor her worst enemy: the tenth never got back to his wife after the marriage, probably he forgot about the marriage because he could not retain memories of the wedding, he was out of Sync... you know, wibbly wobbly
Dark eyes
Big Finish did so much for the Doctors. Thats why my ranking would be
1. Tom Baker by lightyears.... if that man tells you he is an alien, you believe it, no doubt
2. Paul McGann/ Sir John Hurt , also both had only audio Series, but just wow. You can see the Doctor infront of you thats how good they are
3. Peter Capaldi,
4. Sylvester McCoy,
5. Christopher Eccleston the audios wow. To me "Girl deconstructed" is one of the best Doctor Who storys ever / Colin Baker, the Audios are awesome, he nails the part, they improved so much of the 6th Doctor, and show how good he is, given propper material.
6. Matt Smith,
7.William Hartnell
8. David Tannent, WAY to overrated, way to human
9. Jon Pertwee
10. Spoilers*
11. Patrick Troughton. havent seen much of him, maybe higher next time. You can flip this and 12...not sure yet.
12. Spoilers*
13. Peter Davison....he doesnt click for me, mostly because there is no good chemestry with companions, most of them are annoying tbh.
@ Dark eyes 👍
the first bit with the tardis being carried by a helicopter was done with a crane in trafalgar square and matt smith was really hanging from it mid air, it was filmed earlier in the year and i remember seeing a few news articles about it at the time.
i edited the version they watched to ensure they could safely watch that part without spoilers by completely removing the guest names
Sir John Hurt is such great casting to represent the older classic Doctor Whos
He actually always wanted to play the Doctor, it's great that he got the chance before he passed.
that’s why I love this series so much.
Wasn't it so sweet to see Tom at the end - felt very final
I watched this in the theatre and let me tell you, that room was filled with more electricity than Endgame, and that's really saying something. The reaction when Tom Baker appeared was probably audible from the parking lot.
Tom Baker and Matt Smith. Ultimately, they are my doctors.
Even in its low budget and humble state of the 70s, Baker has some AMAZING stories, and so much what we think of as "The Doctor" came from him.
Leela: "Can I kill him now?" And Romana, who brought K9 to the Doctor.
He may have only appeared on screen once but he was a very beloved Doctor to fans and his "canon" is extensive.
they've watched all the minisodes and an assortment of bonus stuff like the eighth doctor's movie in prep
@@uhfrank Ah cool, I hadn't seen Night of the Doctor here (but of course that doesn't mean they didn't do it!)

The sign for "I M Foreman, Scrap Merchants" is the place where the Doctor originally parked his TARDIS in the very first story.
Saw this live on BBC1 after being at The Convention in London. Then several days later at a theatre in Chandler, Az in 3D...the highlight of my life.
Saw it at an odeon in central london. Will always be a core memory. Hundreds of fans cos-playing (1/3 in tom baker scarfs) and lots of cheering and tears....
Also, Tom Baker has one of the finest voices in history!
up there with James Earl Jones!!!
Absolutely. Even if you know where things are heading now, these are totally worth watching.
They put Night of the Doctor as a Patreon-only video.
@@somerandomguy2073thank you, I’m glad they saw it, it’s almost the highlight of the 50th.
Not to be that guy, but he was in dimensions in time lol
@quantumbanana I keep forgetting about the existence of that mess
@@quantumbanana does that really count though?
John Hurt starred as the War Doctor in a number of audios before his death.
Rekkai asking why the War Doctor parks so far away... then the Moment asking the same,
If you recall, the 10th Doctor talked about marrying Queen Elizabeth I, and how her nickname was no longer appropriate.. (The virgin queen) at the beginning of the End of Time, talking to the Ood
I do love how the "big red button" on the Moment was also a "Rose"
Absolutely brilliant 50th Anniversary Special to mark our incredible Dr Who 😍 🎆
The curator is played by 4th Doctor Tom Baker. He was absent from the 20th anniversary special (they used footage from an unfinished story in that one) so this really feels like unfinished business.
20:00 When Time Lords interact with their previous selves only the most recent one remembers, to not cause any paradoxes.
Watching this in a full house theater in 3D back in the day was life changing
I would call the 9th the shell-shocked Doctor. Still numb, hasn't really processed it yet.
@@Which-Craft "who are you coward or killer?" "Coward, everytime"
Such a fantastic Special, this one - completely worthy of a 50th celebration. So much that could have gone wrong in the execution, but it completely comes together.
I saw this in the theaters in Los Angeles when it premiered worldwide at the same time. That was a good day. And for the first time in a long time, I was a kid again. I revisit this episode multiple times a year. It was nice revisiting with you guys.
I love this episode. I think it was so well executed, paying off an old Tennant joke. Plus, John Hurt did well coming in as a new Doctor since they couldn't convince Eccleston to come back.
29:46 every time I hear Clara go “whoo-hoo!” I always think it’s Amy it sounds just like her
Ncuti Gatwa has been very vocal about his desire to do a multi-Doctor story with Matt Smith.
If Matt does come back, I hope it's as the Master
I can totally see Matt coming back, he loves the role. Him and Ncuti would be a riot together
Something no one seems to notice, something I didn't until recently, is the war doctors decree. "No more".
We've heard it before. In journeys end. Dalek Caan. "I traveled back into the time War and I decreed.... no more"
Not one comment about the attack eyebrows here.
Derren Brown is a famous British mentalist. You saw him in Sherlock season 3 opener when Anderson claimed he helped stage Sherlock’s death
Liz 10 in The beast Below says to The Doctor “and so much for the virgin queen you bad bad boy” you see that play out!
as someone who watched this live when it aired, nothing was more fun for me than having 4 doctors all interact with each other (4,8,10,11)
I like how 10 and 11 were more respectful and kinder to each other than any of the first 3 were. They seem to recognize that they are the same person more so than 2 and 3 ever did.
Great multi-Doctor story and I always love 10 saying to 11 “it’s good to know my future is in safe hands” which is a line from the 25th anniversary special and the first Doctor says that to the fifth
He says it to Clara : "It's good to know my future is in safe hands, keep a tight hold on it Clara!" 😂
@ errr no he doesn’t actually. He says he hopes he becomes half the man Clara is. Watch it again
There’s a reason why queen elizabeth 1 said “ off with his head “ in the episode shakespears code with tennant and Martha jones! THose evens took place after the 50 the anniversary!
There is a mini episode when the 8th doctor regenerates into the war doctor
Eccleston briefly considered returning, and Moffat began plotting the episode with his Doctor participating, but it wasn't to be. He played the Doctor again in some audios, but he's unlikely to return to the TV show.
Last year (pretty sure) Eccleston stated that he would only return to the show if RTD and Julie Gardner were gone, sooo yeah. Unfortunately, I don't think he'll be coming back anytime soon.
@@MJE-riffs good
I think he was also busy filming in Thor the Dark World at the time, which...in hindsight was a grievous misuse of his talents.
@ He thought so, too.
For me, this was the best writing for Clara. I wish they had kept writing her like this.
When Clara is looking at the pictures on the bulletin board toward the end, she see a picture of Susan, the Doctor's Granddaughter and 1st companion.
Upon rewatching this the War doctor wouldn’t remember meeting ‘BadWolf’ but the Tardis took 9 to find Rose, allowing BadWolf to exist.
Therefore does the doctor have free will?
Yes but so does the tardis. As they said in the doctors wife
"You never take me where I want to go!"
"No but I always take you ensure you NEED to go!"
I love that idea.
an astonishing episode by Moffat.
46:57 if you listen back you’ll hear him make a reference to the 9th doctor as he says “I do hope the ears are a bit less conspicuous this time.”
But obviously referencing the joke of him looking in the mirror in season one.
16:14 I just realized the painting in the background here is “The Wreck of the Medusa,” which is actually in Paris at the Louvre.
It was also released in the cinema in 3D. It worked really well
So amazing to see how far you have journeyed into the Whoniverse so far. As long as you keep making your reactions , I'm gonna keep watching. Keep up the amazing work both and thank you.
At 43:44, you can just about see Matt Smith's script lying on the TARDIS console.

Cameo from Capaldi was epic. Can't wait for the 12th Doctor, he's my favorite
UNIT's scientific adviser, Osgood, is wearing a scarf just like the one worn by the 4th Doctor.

33:20 this whole segment with the music was so siiiiiiccccck.....if only there wasn't any bad blood, it could have been Christopher with Matt & David :( but i don't blame him on not coming back
Haven't read all the comments yet, but that intro with the camera effect and then the silhouette of the policeman walking past the sign for Foreman's scrapyard and then Coal Hill School was basically a spot-on recreation of the intro to the first ever episode, which the docudrama partly showed being filmed (and which Verity wanted repeated due to the JFK assassination taking justified precedence that weekend back in 1963)
Also, when Clara rides her motorbike into the TARDIS, it's in the exact same spot as the "real" Police Box that William Hartnell stops by on the night he was told he was being replaced in that docudrama.
Finally, I recommend the prequel minisode "Night of the Doctor", for reasons that will become apparent when you watch it!

By the time this one aired Matt Smith had already retired and his replacement (Peter Capaldi) had been cast. So they were able to film a narrow view of 12's eyes. This Xmas episode is going to blow your minds. And change everything. I’m excited.
