I respect estheticians but I feel that is is a bit out of your scope. She is a board certified derm. She informs her community how to be better educated consumers when navigating the skin care market. Teaching people how to spot products that use misleading terms/labels. Teaches what ingredients to look out for and which ingredients pair well with others. She teaches the science behind skin care. I highly recommend her to anyone trying to step up their skin care and who want to avoid nonsense products that wont do anything for their skin.

I hope Cassandra and other "skincare influencers" on TH-cam change their approach to clickbaity thumbnails honestly. While Cassandra is a licensed esthetician which is better than someone labeling themselves a skincare specialist without proper qualifications, I think many skincare youtubers sensationalize these reaction videos too much, which of course is not only a thing among skincare youtubers but reaction videos in general. However I think it would be good to take it down a notch especially in a video such as this one, because even though Cassandra claims not to know more than a dermatologist, the thumbnail does imply that to a certain extent.
While she's very respectful and informative in the way she talks about it, I much prefer the way Robert Welsh reacts to other professional makeup artists' videos, which he originally avoided but when he did it he opened it saying that he will likely not have anything to criticize but rather it will be more of a learning experience for him. I hope you take this sort of approach into consideration for future videos where you react to other dermatologists' skincare videos.

9/10 estheticians are going to care more about your face than a dermatologist. Have you seen Cassandra's skin transformation? She clearly knows what she's talking about. The thumbnail is clickbait but who cares? It's TH-cam and this is how they make their money. I have seen good dermatologists and bad dermatologists. The last one I saw barely looked at the issue I was having, didn't touch it, walked into the room without knocking while I was changing and sent me on my way in less than 4 minutes. An estheticians job is to care for your face so I have zero issues with one critiquing anyone's skincare routine. Furthermore, when I recently suffered from a serious boil, I decided to go to the ER rather than wait until my dermatologist appointment a few days later. They actually cared for me, treated it appropriately and talked to me. When I went to the dermatologist for the follow-up and concerns, he hardly looked at me, did not want to discuss options for healing quicker and didn't even ask me if I was taking medications. In fact, I have only seen one good dermatologist and this was for a more serious skin condition. She carefully reviewed my options, admitted that there was no easy answer, listened to me about what I had researched and came up with a treatment plan we both agreed on. Estheticians are trained specifically to care for you and your face: dermatologists are doctor's whose jobs are to diagnosis serious skin conditions.

I’ve been a big proponent of the “no fragrance ever” skincare movement, and have to say that I’m starting to go back on that belief. Not because I don’t think it’s harmful to our skin - because I do think so, regardless of whether you experience a reaction or not. But because I’m just starting to really see the value in enjoying one’s skincare “routine”. Just like I eat chocolate for the experience, though it’s arguably not good for me, I think it’s ok to do a little harm to enjoy it. If it gets you to use the products and just brings you joy in the process, I’d say it’s worth it (in moderation 😉).

The idea that breathing in a citrus fragranced cream is dangerous to you when say, smelling the aroma of actual lemons, is not when often the very same compounds are involved is patently stupid. It’s true that fragrant ingredients are often very sensitizing people’s skin, and thus should be treated with caution and maybe avoided all together if your skin is reactive to them. It’s also true that some people are quite sensitive to scents, and thus can’t be around air fresheners, perfumes, etc. Neither if those things are the same as fragrance being “toxic.”

As a chemist, seeing people mix actives to moisturizers makes me cringe so hard. Even us chemists and formulators in actual labs with proper equipment, have a hard time mixing products and making them homogenous and consistent throughout. *Mixing them on your hand is very risky!!* You can end up with patchy application or worse, "hot spots" where there are more actives in contact with your skin, that can burn. If you want to dial down an active, please *apply your moisturizer first* then *LAYER* the active on top!!!
