- You'd be hard pressed to find a nicer and more down-to-earth guy than Rob Thomas. Watch as Rob tells the story behind the Matchbox 20 hit
"3AM" and how the album cover was NOT a hit with the folks at the record company.
I was an expatriate living in England and met a woman in an "America Online!" chat room and we were chatting about music and she asked me if I'd ever heard Matchbox 20, and I said no. The internet was so new, when someone asked for your address you didn't think twice. She mailed me the CD and I listened to it day and night for 3 months. What a work of art.
I always wondered if English people ever heard about this band, now I know!
I wanted to hear a love connection, what happened to her?
@@batman1169It probably didn’t happen…what a shame.
This song, this whole album actually, was huge, just huge!
The vinyl re-issue is beautifully mastered. You'll feel like you have young ears again. :)
I just love Rob. He’ll always be my fave musician and songwriter. 💕
I been a matchbox 20 fan since the 1st album 1996. been a fan 23 years on. i got all the matchbox 20 cds and some of robs solo albums. this was awesome. i really enjoyed this video.

I was 18 and lived in Birmingham AL. When this album came.Push ,and 3AM was on the radio all the time!
I definitely felt it even though I thought it was about something else at first. I found out my mom had cancer, I heard the song and it became clear to me.
Love Matchbox 20 from 1997 till today, and even enjoy a few of Rob's solo works. Great stuff!
I have a tonne of concert DVD’s from over the years, Matchbox 20 at The Omni in Atlanta is the one that I always fall back on to rock out to.
One of the best albums ever!!
"Secret life we dont know about" oh you mean hanging out with Sinbad
This song is great, but the piano version of this song is one of the best songs ever.
Rob you have a unique voice and one of my favourite songs you sing is when your gone I play it to death👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
YOU have written the best, and I have this album
He just comes off as super nice guy and very humble. He’s awesome
He is a very nice guy. Not a racist, sexist, homophobic or xenophobic either. So down to earth, and funny! Not to mention just downright adorable in every way. He’s a wonderful husband too.
@@Angie821He’s the opposite of Biden.
@@Angie821Rob Thomas is cool.
I like him (love him) a lot!!! Ever since I heard him sing "Push"! What a great guy!
This album is excellent.
He looks like someone from whom a hug would mean a lot
This is my favorite human being
Rob's masterpiece,,,
Push is such a good song
I'm upset that I made myself miss out on the nineties because those who loved this kinda music tortured me.
2:45 Yeah, that would be an expensive name to remember, so I get it
And...boom!
Interesting video wow I lost my mom vassa when I was 16 back on October 16, 1988, she died in her sleep from a brain aneurysm at 38 years old
God love you. ❤️
@@theresajb6463 hello and good morning Theresa JB I'm Peter 48 years old from Hamilton Ontario Canada where are you

Okay, but *why* did they choose that album cover???
it was the 90s
I wonder what that first cover looked like?
great ending to that video. lol
good guy Rob
#13 Thumbs up
Britney spears and rob thomas should be together
Carlos Centeno why???? She's a dumpster fire
She’s mentally unhinged. She should get help.
Why dis Lionel Ritchie right out of the gate? Bad Lionel Ritchie love song? ...hard to listen after that statement.
I think Thomas meant that his own early songs were a poor attempt at a Lionel Ritchie love song. Thomas appears to mean that his own early songs were bad.
Uncle Stinky you may be right.... but he should say “a bad attempt at a Lionel Ritchie song”, instead he says “bad Lionel Ritchie love songs” so he may just be dissing the Commodores and whole bunch of 70s and 80s hits he should be happy to emulate.
He’s saying he wrote bad versions of Lionel’s (good songs). It was a compliment.
CHRIS G yes... but that’s not what he said.
I take it as Rob being self deprecating, not disparaging Lionel at all.
This guy's the poster boy for "overrated."
Nah, you're just jealous prick.
The guy has a great voice, his songs are catchy, and his lyrics are interesting. And he sounds as good live. Yeah, overrated.
meh, "overrated" is a judgement that means not to my liking and not much else.
Yah, 15 million copies of his debut album and millions more since then just screams overrated.
Yooooooooo Stephen Jenkins wants to talk to you
