I Think why the role started to dry up was the change of the type of movie in the late 90's and early 2000's for black movie. The early 90's black culture movie was more gangster or urban type movies like Juice, Menace or boys in the hood. Then later it started to move toward more Couples style movies like Brown Sugar. More of the romantic drama. The "Think like a man" type movies.
Met dude back in 96-97 at Compton High School. We showed him love but was killing him. Like, bruh it's 80+ outside and you got on Tims and a leather jacket like you in New York. Cool dude.

I Think why the role started to dry up was the change of the type of movie in the late 90's and early 2000's for black movie. The early 90's black culture movie was more gangster or urban type movies like Juice, Menace or boys in the hood. Then later it started to move toward more Couples style movies like Brown Sugar. More of the romantic drama. The "Think like a man" type movies.

One of my favorite actors right here. But real talk, I gained a lot of respect for him as man after hearing him speak out of character for the first time, many years ago. He speaks clearly, eloquently, and expressively without changing his natural inflection and accent. He doesn't vocally neuter himself by speaking in that soft nasal tone so many of our brothers adopt to fit into the "industry".

From Strapped to Jason's Lyric, to Caught Up, Dead Presidents, and Ray Bokeem Woodbine been putting it down on the acting tip for years. He existed during the 90s Black TV and film renaissance when there wasn't just one or two Black film directors like today but there was the Hughes Brothers, John Singleton, Spike Lee, Malcolm D. Lee, and others. Even them we lacked representation but we seemed to access it in greater quantity back then. Who are some Black 90s directors I left out and who are they today other than Ava Duvernay and Ryan Coogler?
