    All the under ice ocean worlds in the Solar system should be priority #1 (+plus Titan), for exploration with everything we can throw at 'em.

    You need not pierce the ice crust to look for life. Life would have been deposited onto the surface from pressured vortices-from the interior to the exterior. Send surface probes to points on the surface where crustal upheavals that were caused by upwellings of water. Life will be in the debris field. Suggestion would be also one of the dirtier upwellings-would have come from a deeper part of Europa

    If I had an opportunity to ask a question here it would be if humans can transplant life from Earth into the Ocean(s) of Europa and if the flora and fauna would successfully live there. Thanks.

    I wish that signs of life will be found on Europa. Any multi-cellular life (probably some kind of European fish) would be very big indication of that the Universe is bursting with life and that we are certainly not alone

    Imagine sitting in your little research sub with the hull squeaking a hundred kilometers beneath surface of an ocean hundreds and thousands of kilometers from home. Claustrophobia, here I come.

    • @Chris.Davies

      The approximate pressure at the bottom of a 100km-deep ocean on Europa is ~19,500 lbs/inch^2 which compares favourably to the bottom of the Marianas Trench on Earth at 1,6000 lbs. So, we definitely CAN build a submarine capable of exploring the depths of Europa's ocean.
      The main issues would be:
      1) Getting it into the ocean.
      2) Powering it - only big RTGs could work.
      3) Command/control/communication back to orbit.
      Other than those things, it's dead easy!

    How will we reach the subsurface ocean? Perhaps a radioactive generator to slowly melt its way through?

    • @thepiper5522
      @thepiper5522 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That might be harmful to some of the life, if there is any. I think they're taking a sensible course at the moment.

    • @Rcdvst808
      @Rcdvst808 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Piper yes good point, but what else could we use that would produce enough heat? Solar may not be viable due to distance... it’s an engineering conundrum to be sure

    • @zapfanzapfan
      @zapfanzapfan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The probe probably needs an RTG anyway for electricity so might as well use the waste heat to melt through the ice. Seems the most practical way to me.

  • @chromebook1141
    @chromebook1141 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem is that we won't have the technology to dive into the subsurface ocean in Europa in at least 100 years. Human can never survive on the surface of Europa due to insanely high radiation. I think probably we should be focus on other moons of Jupiter like Callisto, which is big, full of water ice, and has low radiation. Callisto is a better place to colonialize.

    If I could only ask Americans to pronounce one word correctly, it is "Antarctica". Every letter is pronounced, and both Cs are hard. The word derives from the greek, which has a hard K twice. This is not a case of "you pronounce it your way". This is a case of people being taught incorrect pronunciation. It's not aluminum vs. aluminium.
    ἀνταρκτικός (antarktikós) is Antarctica in English. And no case can be made for dropping a letter in speech.
    You don't go to the "artic", you go to the "arctic".
    www.askdifference.com/arctic-vs-artic/
    Thank you, kind Americans. Once you understand, you can confidently assure your friends of the correct way to say the word.
