I love that the Omnibus is itself a Planetary Guide

the superhero who gets killed by constantine/jack carter is supposed to be miracleman. Took me a few rereads to catch it. His origin story being changed and him becoming a darker character are the most obvious clues.

The old Timey astronaut issue is supposed to be Jules Verne Earth to the Moon and that early silent film with the Face of the Moon hit by the lunar module

Oh man, I never put it together that it was supposed to be an homage to the old silent film!

Glad I stumbled upon this. Man, Ellis is/was such an amazing creator. This story will stick with me forever. I'm so sad they didn't roll Elijah Snow into DC after the merger. C'mon Jim Lee!

Thanks for giving us a watch Andrew! And I agree- it would've been amazing to see Planetary pop up again in New 52, especially with all the new comic tropes they could've had a field day with, but it might be best to leave it untouched for fear of it getting tarnished and relaunched again, like most of the 52 titles...

Please do an extended version like the Invincible episodes. Start with the Stormwatch vs “Aliens”, then The Authority, Planetary. Warren Ellis constructed a masterpiece with this run. I’m a new fan/subscriber and I love your content. Drinking beers & talking about comics is awesome!

Thanks David- we've got potential plans to revisit Planetary- and I wouldn't mind giving Authority an episode sometime soon. The Stormwatch vs Aliens has always interested me- but I'm not sure if I could get Troy on board with it.

The Stormwatch arc is definitely a harder portion to swallow, but is Ellis’s admitted excuse to end/segue into the Authority. It gives insight into Bendix’s depravity and manipulation, which in turn, creates the second act of his Wildstorm trilogy. The century babies, along with a bazillion pop culture references, begin to sew the seams of his magnum opus together.

@Imperius Rex The Planetary issue with the story about the Victorian era Astronauts was a reference to Jules Verne's 1865 novel From the Earth to the Moon.

Damn. The FF bad personality traits to the eleven. They Four makes a great villain team. I hope Marvel use the FF ti their full potencial just like in Planetary The Four use all they have.

Love you guys. I'm years behind on this book, and this review, but dang it's great.
I picked up the omni a few weeks back from a library sale (Holy shit what a steal) and it's mine-blowing. I too, was very hesitant on this book at first, but I'm so glad I nabbed it.
I will reread this again and again. Well worth whatever price you need to pay for this book.

just finished all 27 issue and the 3 one shots last night. And to be honest I didn't like it.
Needlessly slow complex and contrived, this can definitely work for a series, but not this one in my view, it also has some particularly obvious historical lies in chapter 7 and 8, I wouldn't have minded if it were done a bit differently, but Ellis wanted to do it this way.
other than that the art was great and the characters were pretty cool.

Bummer you didn't like it. Not sure if it's any consolation, but when I FIRST read it, I didn't LOVE it. I actually preferred Authority, as I read them together. Looking back though, every time I read Planetary I enjoyed it more. Lots of tiny details I'd pick up. Eventually it became one of my all-time favorites. I'd say give it another go in a few years, see if you've changed your mind on it.
