top signs of a covert narcissist you might not know about: they play the victim/hero, lack of accountability, they live two-faced lives, it's always about them, they like to brag, lack of empathy, and will emotionally abandon you in a time of need, no matter how much you did for them.
cheers from southern ontario, canada 🍁

'To add to what you said because I have over 30 years of experience with this, two big red flags to watch for early on - 1) Do they seem to see everything in a black and white way? In other words, do they use always and never a lot when complaining about something? 2) Do they make a lot of negative observations about others, about stupid stuff, about the people they work with? Does it seem like they never have a kind word to say about someone else's situation (lack of empathy showing)? There are bunch of others, but if you see this consistently while dating, don't marry this person. Learn from my misery and don't repeat my mistake.

I’m sorry you have so much experience with “it” .. I mean the demon. The other thing the coverts do is a very abstract method of manipulation in order to generate insecurity and questioning of oneself. Like say a very odd phrase (quickly .. just like an offhand comment) that they find someone you know attractive … they are secretly having conversations with that person like a good friend of yours .. maybe not a good friend but someone you know .. maybe an affair already , maybe not yet. Then “coincidentally” running into them at some random event you wouldn’t expect this 3rd person at but your narc said it may be a fun event to go to and your S.O. acts like they are best of friends and gets too cozy with them (accidentally on purpose) in full view of everyone .. the purpose of the whole setup is to have you have a negative reaction in front of many witnesses to create the premise of them discard you as “you are a jealous lunatic” and move in with that person later on … the entire situation was architected over months and months perhaps even years and was very deliberate … this also applies to stealing as much money before your money before the discard and divorce

There's a comedian named Brian Reagan who does a really funny bit about "The Me monster". Where no matter what you have to say, someone who is a Me Monster will always have to 1 up your situation. "Mee Meee Meeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!" lol

Coverts are a serious problem when it comes to detection. For example they can have narcissistic exs so you assume they must be an empath. Wrong. Key is what are the indicators. In my experience: 1. Loyal friend who can not be your friend too 2. You get the complaint that you don't waste enough time having lots of friends (ie. They need more supply besides you) 3. Everything is transactional and they have financial anxiety 4. You don't give them supply and eventually it turns to bouts of passive aggressiveness, 5. They live on this image that they are great and, if you don't play along, it's catastrophic 6. They have dysfunctional relationships with their family and children for no apparent reason 7. When they are exposed, the covertness comes out, lying stealing etc.

Thank you for informing me, being with a narc is extremely hard. I had the misfortune of spending some time with that kind of person. God saved me an I came across some narc videos and I ended that dead-end relationship immediately.

My family did this to me for years!
1 Example: My Appendix burst. I was on the couch around 7 p.m. sweating bullets in a ton of pain.
My mom comes out and says, "OH your appendix burst. You'll be dead before sun rise."
She comes back out about an hour later saying, "I've seen this dozens of times. You'll be dead before sunrise."
She came back out about every 1 or so and would tell me it's already burst and I am going to die."
My sisters friend the next morning came over and took me to the hospital...
Then years later, everyone in my family would get extremely angry at me because I almost died!
And how could I do that to my mom!!!!

Both my mother and grandmother are covert narcissists and I stopped talking to them years ago. Even then, it took me a while after to figure out that that's what they are, and that reconciliation was just never going to be possible.
