NOTE: SteelSeries GG Engine version 25.0 changed Sonar's sample rate to 24 bit 96 kHz. Please note frequency response does not change with sample rate. So the EQ tuning would still apply in this case with the latest software updates. Sample rates and bit depths affect other aspects of sound with regards to clarity and dynamic range. Hopefully that clears up any hesitation!

For those who just want to quickly copy the settings at 9:47, add 5 dots to the screen by clicking on the line. For each of the ten dots, click the dot, then click the left box (Gain). eg. for +6dB 4.04kHz 3.715Q --> type: 6 --> Enter --> Tab --> 4040 --> Enter --> Tab --> 3.715 --> Enter --> click next dot
some of the dots at this timestamp say to enter in "4.04 kHz" but when i try to type that in it just goes to 20 Hz. kHz isnt even a frequency option that im seeing

After more than a year with this tune, I am still blown away. After updating to Windows 11, sonar bugged out super badly and I had to reinstall which--as others mentioned--removed this mapping for some reason. Words cannot describe how absolutely bummed I was until I saw this pop up in my youtube history search 🙏 Mad respect and much appreciation, this has been going strong with music, gaming, and everything else I do on my PC 🙌
@@bodhiyt6900No, only the EQ shown at 4:37 and only on Steelseries Nova Pro. It's a 10 band graphic equalizer, and they are inferior to a parametric equalizer, like the one in the Sonar software.
umm, i can't find the mic settings in the video. i swear i remember watching him talk about mic eq settings. he was setting the 31hz sub bass slider all the way down to -12db. where is it? am i going crazy?
lol i just went through the exact same thing xD checked through the other videos i watched, he did a custom mic EQ for the nova 7 and wired, but not for this one (yet) Edit: He wrote this as a reply to another comment tho: I'll have to send you a pic at some point. But reduce the lowest frequency to 0. Boost 100hz by 3-4 dB. Take like 3 dB out of 1khz and 2khz. Boost the last three bands incrementally. Try something like a +1 +2 +3 dB on the last three bands on the right and give that a shot for now

I am a huge music buff, and the headset was kind of mid when unboxed and no EQ tune, I did my own tune and loved it, but then wanted to compare what others had out there. This might sound incredibly dumb. But is this sound for everything? Media, games, voice chat? Id love some more help tbh considering I am quite bad at all this and really appriciate the help this has provided.
I don't really like this configuration. I ran with it and it sounds like there is too much air in the sound. That is the only way I can describe it. I'm guessing this is for sweaty gamers who want to hear footsteps 100 feet away. But for me who plays story games 3/4 of the time. This isn't ideal.

Question for you, since the Sonar EQ adjustments will not work for console, do you recommend any other software to make adjustments to the base station for Xbox Series X? Also, do you recommend using Dolby Atmos EQ through Xbox in conjunction with the Nova Pro EQ settings? Or should I just turn off Dolby Atmos on Xbox and simply run the the EQ settings you showed at the beginning of your video? i.e. the onboard EQ settings through the base station. Thank you very much!
Bro... Thanks. Content is high-quality information. Love the balance in the ranges. Just bought the headphones and adjusted the low range a little bit for my preferences in anime and movies. Sound quality is much better than stock settings. Just a quick tip for everybody, rest your hearing for time to time. These ranges are PERFECT for quality but long hours of gameplay or work, especially with the ANC on can cause effects on the long run.
Could you break down I have this for my ps5 but use the custom equalizer tuning am I using this correctly or I’m missing out the potential of this headset
Its pretty bad for me in Apex legends. The ending of sounds, specially voices are very screechy. Yeah, same thing is when watching TH-cam, all sound endings are distorted. I dunno why this Sonar EQ just doesnt work for me. The only solution is to tune Treble to max minus 12 dB and still feel the need to reduced it, but then sounds are muffled.
not sure whats wrong with this headset. The music setting is good enough but for games, it just sounds bad. I tried yours and another I found online and tweaked the presets but none seemed to work so far. The sounds are either harsh/sharp or distant and I cannot hear footsteps. I would expect a headset at this price range to work out of the box...
I also found the base to be very weak, at least using it on a Series X. In Destiny for example most sounds are ok, but using any of the guns that I have been use too for years sound very weak and hollow.
@@togashi3892 Yeah, it sounds quiet and lacking for some reason. I ended up using this YT setting in the end for apex with some tweaks on bass.Still it's pretty quiet if I don't want to increase volume to 80-90%.
So, i was wearing this headset while changing the EQ to your presets, I could literally start hearing the difference in your voice as I was doing this. Then when I was done, I continued to watch the video. I freaking heard your hands rubbing together! Thank you for this, as I just purchased these and used them in one game and was not impressed.
11 months later and i need to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Came back to this video, after my steelseries software bugged out and i needed to reinstall. EQ Settings were deleted smh. You are not the hero we deserve, but the hero we needed, sir!
It's on the video at around the 4:43 mark. He is doing it on the pc but the DAC has exactly the same EQ on it so just pause the video at that time and then adjust the DAC to match 👍

I'm curious if you have compared the Sonar EQ to the GG EQ + Dolby Atmos for Windows (what I'm currently using). I have tried a lot of the Sonar EQ settings people have recommended, but nothing could compare to the Dolby Atmos for Windows both for content viewing and gaming.
Excellent video again, really appreciate it! Your fine tuning did bring improvement over mine, however I did lift some of the base section more, as I listen to techno, but my treble was completely off, and this brought a ton of clearness. What I'm disappointed is, that this headset is advertised as the top shelf gaming headset with excellent sound quality, I wouldn't say the music sounds better than on my Sennheiser HD400S's without any tuning, which cost me €60.

Love this headset use the bluetooth with phone all the time I'm by my computer and music 24/7 and discord and all that! on mic just turn down sidetone to 0 and I use punchy music preset on everything! I have nova pro with noise cancelling, and ordered a couple gel aerbuds they are gonna be bigger and with shaved skull I must have on the thigtes on them so see if they gonna sit even better going tru two original now!! Have there Tkl pro nordic omnipoint and prime mini wireless everything just works good!

I just got this headset and what I do not understand is that I can make the EQ changes in engine/DAC and then ALSO in Sonar. All delivering different results, and frankly not delivering great results compared to the Arctis 7+. Where should I be making changes? The DAC only shows the presets I set in engine, not in Sonar.

Would you say that this EQ setting is overall really good for single-player gaming, FPS games, sports, and music? For several years I owned an Arctis Pro with the 96Khz Gamedac and loved it, also did a lot of tweaks and had several solid EQ settings with Peter's Equalizer which allowed for more expansion of bands. I just got a Nova Arctis Wireless Pro for my birthday and was inquiring if these EQ settings via Sonar would be a good overall choice with my new headphones. I really appreciate how in-depth your video is and my final question is, I've been trying to compare my old Arctis Pro's with the 96Khz Gamedac Hi-Def Audio with these new wireless 48Khz Nova's. I'm curious, what is your take on the difference in those and without being an audiophile, can one truly tell the difference? From my tests it is really hard for me to personally hear a difference, but I know the new V2 Gamedac hard-wired is supposed to produce the best audio on the market right now for 2024. I'm currently considering this headset, but I will use it together with my GoXLR mini, so the audio source will be the line in, coming from the headphone out on the goxlr. (has to be like that since I'm on a 2 pc setup and line out (goxlr) is connected to the second pc. My question though is, will Sonar settings affect the signal coming in on the line in?

Idk if my headset is broken or something but this EQ doesn't seem to do much for me, it still sounds like there's way too much mid range and the bass might as well be rolled off there is none, the highs could be brighter, it just sounds like an old 4inch tweeter on a speaker in my ear. Maybe I went more aggressive, I am curious why this sounds good to you and it sounds weak to me. Music side it sounds very weak, gameplay maybe sounds fine? but any type of music in it or articulated effects will sound very dry. I'm happy to give what I'm currently using, it's very bass and treble heavy and I rolled off the mids a lot mainly the 1khz it's at like -6 db, the rest is classic smiley from there. Just sounds a lot more vibrant and has more clarity, I'm still tweaking it though, was hoping this would solve the mid issue I'm still dealing with. It did teach me about the Q setting I was wondering how you got each notch to taper off on your overall review video. I might tweak a bit more with it later. I'll give current settings below if anyone has any advice for me. All Q are currently default to 0.707 as I haven't tweaked with them much. These also aren't tuned specifically I just kinda pulled the notch up and down until it sounded clean. 8.3 db 29.3 hz 10.3 db 58.3 hz 5.8 db 202.7hz -1.2 db 497.7hz -6.6 db 1.01khz 1.8db 2khz 7.7db 4khz 6.4 db 9.33 khz 12db 20khz the highs and lows are very aggressive especially that 20khz, but it really brings out the tiny symbol sounds in drums doing that. And the bass is massive. I also use spatial audio set all the way to performance and 100, with gain still figuring out, gonna try running 0 and just turning things up in the app manually, but currently it's set to 5db, smart volume off.

So I just bought this headset and when I’m using it to a play a game it’s pretty low. I have to crank the volume almost to the max. But then a Bluetooth call comes in and it’s deafening loud. Or if I watch a TH-cam video on Bluetooth it’s super loud. I have to turn the volume down to about half. What gives?
So I'm currently using the SteelSeries Nova Pro Wireless Headset and I tried to use this to tune my audio however when I tried to use it everything ended up muffled and barely audible, seeing all the comments I know I'm doing something wrong so I'm just wondering if there is anything I should be doing to fix this. the headset sounds good. But after getting mine and installing the GG software my base station is not working anymore. Besides that the base Station feels really cheap. As it's not just some USB stick it matters. I couldn't recommend these headsets as I find out they have tons of problems. Don't ask about fucked up firmware updates.
@@GadgetryTech I actually returned my nova pro’s and went back to A50’s. I owned my A50 Gen 3 for 6 years and it was just at the end of its life. The only reason I left to nova was for the added features but the bass was just a major dealbreaker upon hearing. That being said, thanks for all your reviews they were extremely helpful.
@@StarWarsInfinite yeah when i was younger i thought bass was everything but as i got older i realised that clarity is definitely more important. only thing i can fault with my nova's is the lack of the lows they hit but GT's tune helped with some of that, and a minor tweak to the bass DB itself helped a little. at the end of the day they're a gaming headset and in my opinion sound better than astro's, atleast we get what we pay for with these. if you want studio quality gear why dont you get beyerdynamic's or something?
Far out dude, I just bought these and could tell they had massive potential but felt really flat and muddy out of the box. I'm a bit of an audiophile simpleton so having this video and your tuning recommendations has really brought out the best of these headphones. I had the previous Arctis Pro Wireless for over 5 years and they actually sounded significantly better out of the box with the 3 Dolby presets. I ran it on the studio preset for just about all of those 5 years and they sounded magnificent. Thanks so much for your detailed explanation of everything. I have been playing around with spatial audio and feel you really don't need it. The soundscape is already immense.
I have the Nova Pro wired and this eq is really good. Make sure to just type in what he says if you have the Nova Pro wired and keep off spatial in Sonar and do not add Dolby Atmos in your windows audio settings.

Yes. On SteelSeries GG, once you make your DAC audio changes and click save, it's saved directly to the dac. Then when you connect it to your console you will benefit from it.

I'm totally impotent when it comes to tuning audio or understanding how it all works but I do know that places like RTings and other have reliable provided good tuning for different headsets and monitors and things so I'm very happy to have added you to the list with my new pair of Nova Pro! Upgraded from Arctis 7's to these Nova Pro's (Christmas gift from my wife) and this tuning is noticeably improved over factory! Thanks again bro.
Awesome review man. So glad I stumbled upon your channel. I looking to get a gaming headset and your channel provided an incredible info and detail on the different types of headsets. Currently I bought the Nova 7X and the Nova Pro Wireless. Trying to decide which one is the best as an overall, movies, gaming, music etc. One thing I noticed though is, after applying your custom EQs for both the 7X and the Pro wireless, while the Pro it is a bit loader than the 7X, the Bass on the 7X is more noticeable. I have the EQ in the engine set to Bass boost and the sonar EQs are your custom ones. Any idea why the difference in bass? Have you noticed anything on your end?
When I turn on my headset, I have to go into sonar and set all the outputs to the headset. Is there a way to make that default in the software or like a preset I can just click one button and they all go to the headset? They all default to the steam inputs when my computer boots up.

I just got the Nova Pro Wireless and use your tune in Equalizer APO with Peace addon. Sounds so much better than Sonar! To my ears there's some sort of limiting going on in Sonar (dynamic range is limited compared to the source). Your tune works perfectly in Equalizer APO. Thanx for sharing!

no matter how i do it it never lines up ilke its suppose to the dots and lines dont line up like yours id have to set the dbs different to get the lines where yours are anyone else have this problem
Can you please explain to why Tempest 3D audio sounds off to me? I’m using the Nova Pros. Footsteps and jumping in water sound awful. Example in Spider-Man 2. Although voice and guns shots sound great.
Little Advice from an audiophile. The headset itself is ok but lacking a lot in the midrange. Your configuration is basically pretty good but lacks a lot of dynamic in the midrange und lower highs. Try adjusting mids generally +3.5 and highs to +2.2. Lower base by -1 and the sound is great for what to expect in this pricerange & wireless.
I'm not sure, maybe I got a lemon... But after 2 Steelseries Wireless Headsets (the predecessor), followed by a Logitech Pro X Wireless, I was EXTREMELY disappointed with this headset and repacked it within the hour to return it: It had a very noticeable base hissing that started as soon as you turned on the power (no matter if connected/drivers and so on) and the Sound was utter shit compared to the Logitech, hard to say vs the old Steelseries, as I haven't worn that in years... Anyway: Base hissing + very unimpressive sound make this a 3/10 for me, AT BEST.

I dunno why this Sonar EQ just doesnt work for me. The only solution is to tune Treble to max minus 12 dB and still feel the need to reduced it, but then sounds are muffled.
not sure whats wrong with this headset. The music setting is good enough but for games, it just sounds bad. I tried yours and another I found online and tweaked the presets but none seemed to work so far. The sounds are either harsh/sharp or distant and I cannot hear footsteps. I would expect a headset at this price range to work out of the box...
I also found the base to be very weak, at least using it on a Series X. In Destiny for example most sounds are ok, but using any of the guns that I have been use too for years sound very weak and hollow.
@@togashi3892 Yeah, it sounds quiet and lacking for some reason. I ended up using this YT setting in the end for apex with some tweaks on bass.Still it's pretty quiet if I don't want to increase volume to 80-90%.
So, i was wearing this headset while changing the EQ to your presets, I could literally start hearing the difference in your voice as I was doing this. Then when I was done, I continued to watch the video. I freaking heard your hands rubbing together! Thank you for this, as I just purchased these and used them in one game and was not impressed.

11 months later and i need to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Came back to this video, after my steelseries software bugged out and i needed to reinstall. EQ Settings were deleted smh. You are not the hero we deserve, but the hero we needed, sir!

It's on the video at around the 4:43 mark. He is doing it on the pc but the DAC has exactly the same EQ on it so just pause the video at that time and then adjust the DAC to match 👍

I'm curious if you have compared the Sonar EQ to the GG EQ + Dolby Atmos for Windows (what I'm currently using). I have tried a lot of the Sonar EQ settings people have recommended, but nothing could compare to the Dolby Atmos for Windows both for content viewing and gaming.

Excellent video again, really appreciate it! Your fine tuning did bring improvement over mine, however I did lift some of the base section more, as I listen to techno, but my treble was completely off, and this brought a ton of clearness.
What I'm disappointed is, that this headset is advertised as the top shelf gaming headset with excellent sound quality, I wouldn't say the music sounds better than on my Sennheiser HD400S's without any tuning, which cost me €60.

Love this headset use the bluetooth with phone all the time I'm by my computer and music 24/7 and discord and all that! on mic just turn down sidetone to 0 and I use punchy music preset on everything! I have nova pro with noise cancelling, and ordered a couple gel aerbuds they are gonna be bigger and with shaved skull I must have on the thigtes on them so see if they gonna sit even better going tru two original now!! Have there Tkl pro nordic omnipoint and prime mini wireless everything just works good!

I just got this headset and what I do not understand is that I can make the EQ changes in engine/DAC and then ALSO in Sonar. All delivering different results, and frankly not delivering great results compared to the Arctis 7+. Where should I be making changes? The DAC only shows the presets I set in engine, not in Sonar.

Impressive video! I own this headset so I will definetely try your EQ. I got used to the COD Warzone preset with spatial though and positional audio helps a bunch, but you are the guru.
Would you say that this EQ setting is overall really good for single-player gaming, FPS games, sports, and music?
For several years I owned an Arctis Pro with the 96Khz Gamedac and loved it, also did a lot of tweaks and had several solid EQ settings with Peter's Equalizer which allowed for more expansion of bands.
I just got a Nova Arctis Wireless Pro for my birthday and was inquiring if these EQ settings via Sonar would be a good overall choice with my new headphones. I really appreciate how in-depth your video is and my final question is, I've been trying to compare my old Arctis Pro's with the 96Khz Gamedac Hi-Def Audio with these new wireless 48Khz Nova's. I'm curious, what is your take on the difference in those and without being an audiophile, can one truly tell the difference?
From my tests it is really hard for me to personally hear a difference, but I know the new V2 Gamedac hard-wired is supposed to produce the best audio on the market right now for 2024.

I'm currently considering this headset, but I will use it together with my GoXLR mini, so the audio source will be the line in, coming from the headphone out on the goxlr. (has to be like that since I'm on a 2 pc setup and line out (goxlr) is connected to the second pc.
My question though is, will Sonar settings affect the signal coming in on the line in?

Idk if my headset is broken or something but this EQ doesn't seem to do much for me, it still sounds like there's way too much mid range and the bass might as well be rolled off there is none, the highs could be brighter, it just sounds like an old 4inch tweeter on a speaker in my ear. Maybe I went more aggressive, I am curious why this sounds good to you and it sounds weak to me. Music side it sounds very weak, gameplay maybe sounds fine? but any type of music in it or articulated effects will sound very dry. I'm happy to give what I'm currently using, it's very bass and treble heavy and I rolled off the mids a lot mainly the 1khz it's at like -6 db, the rest is classic smiley from there. Just sounds a lot more vibrant and has more clarity, I'm still tweaking it though, was hoping this would solve the mid issue I'm still dealing with. It did teach me about the Q setting I was wondering how you got each notch to taper off on your overall review video. I might tweak a bit more with it later. I'll give current settings below if anyone has any advice for me. All Q are currently default to 0.707 as I haven't tweaked with them much. These also aren't tuned specifically I just kinda pulled the notch up and down until it sounded clean.

the highs and lows are very aggressive especially that 20khz, but it really brings out the tiny symbol sounds in drums doing that. And the bass is massive. I also use spatial audio set all the way to performance and 100, with gain still figuring out, gonna try running 0 and just turning things up in the app manually, but currently it's set to 5db, smart volume off.

Great video! I honestly don't understand much, but I copied the EQ. I speak Spanish and there are no videos like these in Spanish haha. I'll keep watching your videos and searching Reddit for more specific EQ's (for X genre of music, or for X game)
I'm curious, why turn off spatial audio and the volume boost in the games tab even with your given tunings. I play RPG and Adventure games so I don't if these tunning's would be best for FPS or RPG games too?

it doesnt say sub bass, bass, low mids etc anymore. Now the game EQ says immersion, footsteps, revive. Would that change anything?
So I just bought this headset and when I’m using it to a play a game it’s pretty low. I have to crank the volume almost to the max. But then a Bluetooth call comes in and it’s deafening loud. Or if I watch a TH-cam video on Bluetooth it’s super loud. I have to turn the volume down to about half. What gives?

So I'm currently using the SteelSeries Nova Pro Wireless Headset and I tried to use this to tune my audio however when I tried to use it everything ended up muffled and barely audible, seeing all the comments I know I'm doing something wrong so I'm just wondering if there is anything I should be doing to fix this. But after getting mine and installing the GG software my base station is not working anymore.
Besides that the base Station feels really cheap. As it's not just some USB stick it matters.
I couldn't recommend these headsets as I find out they have tons of problems. Don't ask about fucked up firmware updates.

@@GadgetryTech I actually returned my nova pro’s and went back to A50’s. I owned my A50 Gen 3 for 6 years and it was just at the end of its life. The only reason I left to nova was for the added features but the bass was just a major dealbreaker upon hearing. That being said, thanks for all your reviews they were extremely helpful.
@@StarWarsInfinite yeah when i was younger i thought bass was everything but as i got older i realised that clarity is definitely more important. only thing i can fault with my nova's is the lack of the lows they hit but GT's tune helped with some of that, and a minor tweak to the bass DB itself helped a little. at the end of the day they're a gaming headset and in my opinion sound better than astro's, atleast we get what we pay for with these. if you want studio quality gear why dont you get beyerdynamic's or something?

Far out dude, I just bought these and could tell they had massive potential but felt really flat and muddy out of the box. I'm a bit of an audiophile simpleton so having this video and your tuning recommendations has really brought out the best of these headphones. I had the previous Arctis Pro Wireless for over 5 years and they actually sounded significantly better out of the box with the 3 Dolby presets. I ran it on the studio preset for just about all of those 5 years and they sounded magnificent.

I have the Nova Pro wired and this eq is really good. Make sure to just type in what he says if you have the Nova Pro wired and keep off spatial in Sonar and do not add Dolby Atmos in your windows audio settings.

Yes. On SteelSeries GG, once you make your DAC audio changes and click save, it's saved directly to the dac. Then when you connect it to your console you will benefit from it.

I'm totally impotent when it comes to tuning audio or understanding how it all works but I do know that places like RTings and other have reliable provided good tuning for different headsets and monitors and things so I'm very happy to have added you to the list with my new pair of Nova Pro! Upgraded from Arctis 7's to these Nova Pro's (Christmas gift from my wife) and this tuning is noticeably improved over factory! Thanks again bro.

Awesome review man. So glad I stumbled upon your channel. I looking to get a gaming headset and your channel provided an incredible info and detail on the different types of headsets. Currently I bought the Nova 7X and the Nova Pro Wireless. Trying to decide which one is the best as an overall, movies, gaming, music etc. One thing I noticed though is, after applying your custom EQs for both the 7X and the Pro wireless, while the Pro it is a bit loader than the 7X, the Bass on the 7X is more noticeable. I have the EQ in the engine set to Bass boost and the sonar EQs are your custom ones. Any idea why the difference in bass? Have you noticed anything on your end?
Honestly i find this preset to sound muffled and muddy. The immersion preset is better and my go-to now

When I turn on my headset, I have to go into sonar and set all the outputs to the headset. Is there a way to make that default in the software or like a preset I can just click one button and they all go to the headset? They all default to the steam inputs when my computer boots up.
It may be a stupid question, but does this setting harm the Nova Pro drivers in the long run?

I just got the Nova Pro Wireless and use your tune in Equalizer APO with Peace addon. Sounds so much better than Sonar! To my ears there's some sort of limiting going on in Sonar (dynamic range is limited compared to the source). Your tune works perfectly in Equalizer APO. Thanx for sharing!

no matter how i do it it never lines up ilke its suppose to the dots and lines dont line up like yours id have to set the dbs different to get the lines where yours are anyone else have this problem

Can you please explain to why Tempest 3D audio sounds off to me? I’m using the Nova Pros. Footsteps and jumping in water sound awful. Example in Spider-Man 2. Although voice and guns shots sound great.
Little Advice from an audiophile. The headset itself is ok but lacking a lot in the midrange. Your configuration is basically pretty good but lacks a lot of dynamic in the midrange und lower highs. Try adjusting mids generally +3.5 and highs to +2.2. Lower base by -1 and the sound is great for what to expect in this pricerange & wireless.
So what would your ideal custom DAC EQ be for this headset as I would love to compare
I'm not sure, maybe I got a lemon... But after 2 Steelseries Wireless Headsets (the predecessor), followed by a Logitech Pro X Wireless, I was EXTREMELY disappointed with this headset and repacked it within the hour to return it:
It had a very noticeable base hissing that started as soon as you turned on the power (no matter if connected/drivers and so on) and the Sound was utter shit compared to the Logitech, hard to say vs the old Steelseries, as I haven't worn that in years...
Anyway: Base hissing + very unimpressive sound make this a 3/10 for me, AT BEST.
