UPDATE - The 5300 Hz setting in Sonar for the Freeze pad should be set as "High Shelving" - and not peaking EQ (everything else stays the same). I am seeing if I can fix the video in TH-cam editor now, but please take note of this. Otherwise the sound will be "close" but not the exact same as I intended it to be.
Hey and thanks for all the videos. Would you use the same settings for the wired version? And is there really a noticeable difference between the wicked cushion pads with and without the gel? Can currently only get the ones with gel for the wired headset, standard are "in development" so to say.

Just what I needed, I used your older sonar settings for my stock nova pro wireless. And like everyone else couldn't stand that piece inside the headsets that makes the uncomfortable contact with my ears. I went ahead and already placed my orders from Wicked Cushions for the black freeze gel series and was hoping you had any updated sonar settings for those. Luckily, I stumble across your video here. I mainly play fps games and listen to music as well. I just don't like the regular default flat sonar settings, so all your work is very much appreciated, thank you for those countless hours of work for people like me who don't understand how to adjust any of those sonar sound settings. The timing of this video couldn't have been better. I just ordered and tried out the Freeze pads and was immediately thrown off by the negative impact it had on my sound. I bought a pair and they were amazing. So soft so comfortable and even though I returned the nova 7, they made it 100 times better to wear. If you have the nova 7 or pro then you need these, they really are that good.

As it gives you access to the Headphone/speaker mode toggle, positioning, performance/immersion and distance settings) I recently upgraded from my Steelseries arctis pro wireless to the new Nova pro wireless X (with wicked cushion freeze pads). I use them everyday for call centre based work from home, gaming, music, movies etc and have no complaints👌
Thanks for the EQ settings for the WC Freeze I picked them up to avoid the rubbing issue with the ANC mic/speaker they are amazingly comfy but then I lost the bass and some of the high instrumental frequencies the headset hit with the stock pads. Used your sonar EQ settings and wow sounds really good now. I had sonar disabled and just used the smiley EQ preset and this sounds way better. Sonar is actually dope once you set up different presets for different needs/media. After a long gaming session its nice to simply switch inputs (gaming to media and get a totally different mood of sound.
Once again a truly fantastic review. My ears are not laboratory-calibrated like yours and I simply replaced the stock pads with teh freezegel and did nothing else and it did substatially improve the comfort for sure but that ANC nub still bothered me.

thanks for your great work measuring and tuning the nova's with the wicked pads :) for my ears the WC Pads felt a little bit too narrow (even tho they increase the distance to the driver) and just slightly (really slightly) mudded sounding and i took your sonar tune and just left the 150Hz base region to 0db and reduced the upper mids and highs for about 0.5 to 1 db cause the highs were sometimes a really tiny bit distorted for me in a couple of songs. at the moment i am pretty pleased with these wireless cans coming from a 5 years of service mmx 300 :)
Can anyone chime in and advise how each of these Cushion Pads also affect the ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) and sound leak? I noticed those were never mentioned, and I would like to know the details on that, as they are some of the most important features to me.
Great video. I also haven't been using the nova pro's in for a few months due the stock earpad getting to squishy and constant feeling the ANC bump. I purchased both WC ear pads. I could still feel that ANC bump sometimes even with the standard wicked cushions. The only one I can never feel the bump with is the cooling gel version. I had still been using your stock tune slightly changed with the WC since like thanksgiving when I got them and they still sounded great. Gonna try the new tune out and see if its better to my ears.
Great video man. I hope they add freq band eq’s to these programs so we could control certain sounds like airstrikes as they occupy similar frequencies as footsteps but are much, much louder.
Do any of these adjustments affect the bluetooth sound profile? I don't mean the pads obviously, but does the DAC tune save to the headset and carry over to say bluetooth on a phone?

love the channel huge fan - i did buy them for the nova 7p's However, even though the materials are better they did not cover what i was seeking. The artics 7p+ had a bigger ear pad size and opening and were supre comfortable to my ears which are big. Nova 7's are better in every way but not in comfort. I was hoping that wicked cushions would give the option for a bigger or XL sizes for the earpads for the Nova's ..

There's also the route of buying the 3D-printed adapter that allows you to use any 3rd party pad that fits the Arctis (non Nova) Pros/Cloud 2 etc. I'd be interested to see how these perform with different kind of pads like velour or microsuede.

I'm struggling with the same thing with my Astro A50's. I bought the freeze wicked cushions and it changed the sound profile to be much more darker sounding than I like. So I ended up going back to the stock earpads until I can come across comes an EQ tune that makes it better.
These settings are applicable to use with Spatial Audio turned on as well, correct? And also, do you prefer the Performance tuning slider or Immersion were you to use it? Thanks! I chose the FreeZe pads and while they're more comfortable than stock, the cooling aspect (they warm up pretty quick, anyway) doesn't seem to be the deal breaker to me. Might go Enhanced instead. Any help sites or anything for this? I have these with Sonar installed but when I test under Game, I don’t hear anything. When I go through windows device and test the chimes, I only hear it through the Headset choice and not the Sonar - Gaming one. Sorry if that doesn’t make sense, I’m not 100% sure what to do to make sure I’m getting the most out of the EQ-ing options.
Does the mid tier pads sounds better then the freeze ones then only eq’ing on the dac? I do mainly play Warzone but I still want to buy the best sounding pads out the two if I was to listen to music and other casual games too . Thanks
Hey GT, so i got both because im really bad at decision making and i always feel like im doing something wrong. Since i got my novas i was using ur Sonar Tune for them the normal one you posted in ur vide about this headset. Everything sounded perfect especially music. Now with the Freeze ones using ur Tune musik sounds really bland and distant. Are those tunes even for music or are they pure for Gaming? Im not a fan of the Pleather ones so i will either be using the Freeze's or the stock. But so far using The Freezes with your first tune sounds better than the Tune you gave for the Freezes. Help?
Bought the cooling version and it's a nice can save for me - Had the darn anc mic's touching the ears. Typical of a gaming gear company... make an otherwise great product then fck it up with stupidity like that. Cheers for sharing the eq settings, seems to be a good baseline for tweaking for personal taste.

God dammit. I was going to return my nova pro's because of the ANC bump caused too much pain. I did see the wicked cushions, but figured they were too expensive to order from the USA to EU. But seeing they have a German Amazon store, I had to try them out. Yay to spending more money! :P
The only issue I’m having with the pads is that they aren’t contoured, they are super thick that at the bottom portion of the pads I lose isolation. Could be that that fixes over time with use of the pad but still.
Since I’ve had the nova pro wireless since day one, the stock pads have been a lot more soft so I’ve been feeling the nub a lot more than usual, these are a huge upgrade either way.
@@Jord_45 the cooling effect doesn’t last long but it feel amazing for the second you put it on. Sounds sounds good still but I’ve added the eq settings that they recommended

After 2 years my normal Wicked Cushions got ripped on the seam. Know I´ve purchased the Freeze Pads. Is there any update to EQ tunings or are they still relevant? Steelseries has implemented a good way to export and import the settings. Maybe you can update the description if needed. Thanks for your work! Just for my information. I liked the Beyerdynamic curve of the DT990 Pro. Is there a way to transport that onto the Arctis Nova Pro?
Just bought the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless and they fixed the anc bump finally. When I removed my earpads I noticed that the ANC bump was very little and different from everybody else that reviewed them so I contacted SteelSeries to know if mine was broken. They contacted the product team and confirmed that these were a new design.
First off, thanks for the EQ and measurements! Secondly, for the Freeze pads EQ you have the Voice slider at 1.6 dB but unless I'm crazy I didn't see any mention of that in the video. Should the Voice slider be at 1.6dB to obtain your measurements or was that just accidental?

I always hated my smaller than average ears until I heard about how many people hated the noise canceling bump issue and owning a pair I can say I've never had that issue
I bougt the SOULWIT Red Storms for 22€ and they are so good, no pain and heat anymore. Here the WCs cost 38€, but you are absolut right. The Treble gets a little bit down, but nothing you can't balance at the EQ DAC. I have a lot of Headphones between 200 til 1000€, so i knew what was going to happen if you change the Pads. I have the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless only 2 weeks now dor PS5, but i'm disepointed that they don't have a App. If you use them on PC thwn it's not a real Problem but on Console it can getting annoying.
it sucks because ive yet to find a pair of headphones that give me the same punch as the turtle beach stealth 700s. i bought this headset, and while i liked it at first, its now basically a paperweight as i went back to my 700s. if sonar was available on the dac so i can use it with ps5, id switch back for sure

Based on your review I am considering exchanging for the Mid tier because I mostly play FPS game. I noticed in your Freeze EQ there is a large dip at around 13kHz, is that something that will sound really strange or noticeable especially in gaming or music?
Yeah I ordered both the leather upgrade pads and the FreeZe cushions and now don’t know which to use. I don’t want to constantly swap pads out based on whether I’m playing a competitive FPS or a story game I want more immersion for. I saw the massive drop there at that frequency as well and surprised he didnt mention anything in the video about it. I’m curious as to which of the pads sounds best after EQ-ing as well

But they still get sweaty so if thats a concern, def get the cooling gel ones and just make sure you follow the EQ guide for them to make them sound a bit better. The cooling gel ones don’t get as hot like the upgraded full pleather ones do, and they’re wayyy more comfortable

I got Wicked Pads for my Novus Pro Wireless and the difference was night and day. The default pads are super uncomfortable. You can feel that inner piece stabbing your ear. Or at least I could. I threw on the Wicked Pads and ohh my god. It's a 100% must have upgrade. Get the pads with the cooling gel and you're chilling. Dunno what Steelseries was thinking but those default pads belong in a dumpster.
i got my new sonar and i placved the wicked freeze red cushion its my first try using sonar and new cushions is this any good or not ? i previously ghot the beyerdynbamic headset and that sound was just oof but i dont like cables haha

I cant make 10 Points for adjustment in the equalizer, only 9. What did i make wrong?

If you could for a v2 version, contour the cushions like what’s on the beoplay portals. The bottom portion of the cushion loses isolation.

Holy smokes. The default cushions are too hot for me and uncomfortable even on AC. The Wicked cushions (freeze 90's Black) are perfect !!

Hi! amazing vids! I have new freeze pads for nova pro wireless. is this video still applicable to current SONAR version? Im trying to copy the EQ settings you suggested but I can only set-up 9 dots in my sonar ( you have 10 dots to yours). thanks in advance
I'm struggling with the same thing with my Astro A50's. I bought the freeze wicked cushions and it changed the sound profile to be much more darker sounding than I like. So I ended up going back to the stock earpads until I can come across comes an EQ tune that makes it better.

Is there a specific EQ setting for music on Upgraded and on freeze? Tried the freeze and music is horrible on it.
These settings are applicable to use with Spatial Audio turned on as well, correct? And also, do you prefer the Performance tuning slider or Immersion were you to use it? Thanks! I chose the FreeZe pads and while they're more comfortable than stock, the cooling aspect (they warm up pretty quick, anyway) doesn't seem to be the deal breaker to me. Might go Enhanced instead. Any help sites or anything for this? I have these with Sonar installed but when I test under Game, I don’t hear anything. When I go through windows device and test the chimes, I only hear it through the Headset choice and not the Sonar - Gaming one. Sorry if that doesn’t make sense, I’m not 100% sure what to do to make sure I’m getting the most out of the EQ-ing options.
Does the mid tier pads sounds better then the freeze ones then only eq’ing on the dac? I do mainly play Warzone but I still want to buy the best sounding pads out the two if I was to listen to music and other casual games too . Thanks
Hey GT, so i got both because im really bad at decision making and i always feel like im doing something wrong. Since i got my novas i was using ur Sonar Tune for them the normal one you posted in ur vide about this headset. Everything sounded perfect especially music. Now with the Freeze ones using ur Tune musik sounds really bland and distant. Are those tunes even for music or are they pure for Gaming? Im not a fan of the Pleather ones so i will either be using the Freeze's or the stock. But so far using The Freezes with your first tune sounds better than the Tune you gave for the Freezes. Help?
Bought the cooling version and it's a nice can save for me - Had the darn anc mic's touching the ears. Typical of a gaming gear company... make an otherwise great product then fck it up with stupidity like that. Cheers for sharing the eq settings, seems to be a good baseline for tweaking for personal taste.

God dammit. I was going to return my nova pro's because of the ANC bump caused too much pain. I did see the wicked cushions, but figured they were too expensive to order from the USA to EU. But seeing they have a German Amazon store, I had to try them out. Yay to spending more money! :P

The only issue I’m having with the pads is that they aren’t contoured, they are super thick that at the bottom portion of the pads I lose isolation. Could be that that fixes over time with use of the pad but still.
Since I’ve had the nova pro wireless since day one, the stock pads have been a lot more soft so I’ve been feeling the nub a lot more than usual, these are a huge upgrade either way.

@@Jord_45 the cooling effect doesn’t last long but it feel amazing for the second you put it on. Sounds sounds good still but I’ve added the eq settings that they recommended
will the mw2 settings also change with the wicked cushions ?
For me yes, the MWII EQ settings he covers in a previous video does not sound good with the cooling gel pads for me

@@succubuslily damn I did not see this for some reason, the EQ settings help bring it back to more of a balanced sound, it's much less punchy.
Just bought some Nova 7's and used your EQ settings. Sounds so much better. Can you do one with WC for them? Love the details in your videos.
Those cushions are very comfy, but definitely not durable, mine have a little over a year and they are already peeling, not worth the $25+ IMHO
After 2 years my normal Wicked Cushions got ripped on the seam.

Steelseries has implemented a good way to export and import the settings. Maybe you can update the description if needed.

Just bought the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless and they fixed the anc bump finally. When I removed my earpads I noticed that the ANC bump was very little and different from everybody else that reviewed them so I contacted SteelSeries to know if mine was broken. They contacted the product team and confirmed that these were a new design.

First off, thanks for the EQ and measurements! Secondly, for the Freeze pads EQ you have the Voice slider at 1.6 dB but unless I'm crazy I didn't see any mention of that in the video. Should the Voice slider be at 1.6dB to obtain your measurements or was that just accidental?
I ended up getting both variations for my pair and i much prefer the upgraded original over the Freeze one's. I feel that they are more comfortable.

I bought these pads for my nova pro wireless and it literally took the bass away , I suggest sticking with the ones that come with the headset

The Sonar software is just broken in the latest GG builds 29.1.x and 30.0.0.
I always hated my smaller than average ears until I heard about how many people hated the noise canceling bump issue and owning a pair I can say I've never had that issue

I bougt the SOULWIT Red Storms for 22€ and they are so good, no pain and heat anymore. Here the WCs cost 38€, but you are absolut right. The Treble gets a little bit down, but nothing you can't balance at the EQ DAC. I have a lot of Headphones between 200 til 1000€, so i knew what was going to happen if you change the Pads. I have the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless only 2 weeks now dor PS5, but i'm disepointed that they don't have a App. If you use them on PC thwn it's not a real Problem but on Console it can getting annoying.
it sucks because ive yet to find a pair of headphones that give me the same punch as the turtle beach stealth 700s. i bought this headset, and while i liked it at first, its now basically a paperweight as i went back to my 700s. if sonar was available on the dac so i can use it with ps5, id switch back for sure

Based on your review I am considering exchanging for the Mid tier because I mostly play FPS game. I noticed in your Freeze EQ there is a large dip at around 13kHz, is that something that will sound really strange or noticeable especially in gaming or music?
Yeah I ordered both the leather upgrade pads and the FreeZe cushions and now don’t know which to use. I don’t want to constantly swap pads out based on whether I’m playing a competitive FPS or a story game I want more immersion for.
I saw the massive drop there at that frequency as well and surprised he didnt mention anything in the video about it. I’m curious as to which of the pads sounds best after EQ-ing as well

@@Jord_45 I prefer the upgraded pads because the audio is noticeably better for me. But they still get sweaty so if thats a concern, def get the cooling gel ones and just make sure you follow the EQ guide for them to make them sound a bit better. The cooling gel ones don’t get as hot like the upgraded full pleather ones do, and they’re wayyy more comfortable

I want hybrid earpads for this headset (velour + leatherette)!
I got Wicked Pads for my Novus Pro Wireless and the difference was night and day. The default pads are super uncomfortable. You can feel that inner piece stabbing your ear. Or at least I could. I threw on the Wicked Pads and ohh my god. It's a 100% must have upgrade. Get the pads with the cooling gel and you're chilling. Dunno what Steelseries was thinking but those default pads belong in a dumpster.

Regarding ANC. Deadass the freeze pad does a better job at ANC than the stock pads. It blew my mind cause I expected the ANC to be worse.
i got my new sonar and i placved the wicked freeze red cushion its my first try using sonar and new cushions is this any good or not ? i previously ghot the beyerdynbamic headset and that sound was just oof but i dont like cables haha
