Thanks for the detailed video. I would out money on SS revising the Nova line to support the new app, mic and EQ features. It's odd they released the white version of the Nova Pro Wireless without these features.
It would have required an entirely new chipset design, which would likely also change the DAC module as well. I think whatever new flagship series comes next will have it though

@@Souneed that’s a common issue, whenever you change your brightness to low or medium, the headset will buzz in the right ear if you press the mute button. I’m just wondering how frequent is this problem
Not really, they kind of crapped on our faces and said "heres the app you been asking for, but you gotta buy this specific headset just to use it" they could have made this headset and also implemented the nova7s but instead they decided to be greedy.
@@GadgetryTech I just got it and so far so good, it's comfortable even on my big head, but less so than the Blackshark V2 Pro 2023 as I'm finding the N5X a little clampy, but that should loosen with use hopefully. The sound quality is okay out of the box but it's MUCH better with your EQ. I'm listening to some Disturbed FLAC and the difference is night and day between the default preset and yours, so thanks for that. Is your general EQ suitable for immersive games? Something like the The Last of Us, God of War, Diablo IV etc, or only for music? If not, would you be willing to make one for more solo campaign driven games? I'll be testing your FPS one later in CoD. Also, for the FPS EQ what you're showing on screen is different to what you have it set at in your own app, which is correct?
Im so glad i picked the 5x over the 7x, i did my research before picking it up today, the microphone test sold me, i needed a backup to my 700 gen 2 max but i actually believe I'll be using these more because the clamping force is nice and the microphone is better so im a fan of these for sure and these are my 1st from Steel series 👍👍👍
Great review and very in depth as always. I use your sonar settings on my nova pro wireless. The fact that they didn’t include an app for the nova pros is really disappointing. They don’t cover shipping cost for warranty issues, and their customer service is abysmal.

Great vid! I play on xbox and have the arctis nova pro wireless. Would you say it’s worth it to replace them with the nova 5, to get access to the PEQ-presets?
Thanks to this review i FINALLY found contentment wit going glitch free WIRELESS with NO Dongle issues like my Maxwell nightmares. BUT… will NOT work with my PS5. Period…. Can’t find any useful help either for this X version. If anyone had the same issue, PLEASE post the solution. Hey I’m a big fan of your channel you do amazing reviews and give so much info for us customers. I’d like to see if you would be willing to do EQ for games like Rainbow Six Siege due to that games more unique audio. Hope you see this!
Thanks for the in depth review! Still got my old trusty RIG 800 for my Xbox but this really seems to be a contender to change that.. Especially since the last season i have massive distortion problems with audio in CoD MP and Warzone, the EQ might help at least a little bit
What is benefit of this headset and How is it for footsteps And quiet sound Or Eq Please give some information about it i wanna buy it Soon Can u replay me at the closest time and keep going best TH-cam for reviews♥️
This headset looks pretty neat but I will stay with Nova Pro Wireless, even if I have 2 issues with it. 1st :The headband is loosing strecth very fast and is impossible to tighten up afterwards (about 4 months of usage) and Wicked Cushion's headband is made of rubber and pulling my hairs (in addition to not being comfortable on the long term). 2nd: Sonar still lacks the option to change the EQ based on the game launched (while we can change mouse and keyboard settings based on the game played)
A few reasons that stopped me from owning a SteelSeries product is the poor mic quality and no adjustable eq for console. You’re paying so much for something that doesn’t really offer many features and you’re stuck to one preset. But honestly excited for the new set of Turtle Beach headsets (especially the Atlas Air)! Can’t wait to hear a mic test on that!
I've had my Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen2's since they came out and love them, are these more of a sideways move or an upgrade? I like that $200-300 mark (AUD) in headphones and I'm looking to get something new, the 700's are showing their age. The stealth Pro's or the Maxwells are the dream but out of budget. Great video.
Hi, thanks for the in-depth review and professional comment. Will you happen to know when will the upgraded Nova Pro with parametric EQ released? Thanks.
Amazing review, you think that in the future the Nova Pro Wireless get that same companion app, is not the same to have a few eq options on the dac that 100 eq from the app, as an expert do you think that is posible for the mid-high end steelseries headset to get that same treatment
yo man love the channel! been looking for a decent mid-range wireless headset as I've been using a rig 500 for past 4 years and its seen better days. I recently purchased the rig 600 pro hs and my friends said I sounded horrible, so after returning I started branching out of the rig brand and have been doing tons of research which has happily led me to your channel. I game with my mates on ps5 so to have nice sound, comfortable and a mic that doesn't sound like a trashcan is all I need. What would you recommended? I've been thinking maybe the corsair hs80 maxs, razor blackshark, nova 7s and now the nova 5xs. Would love to hear your thoughts on any headset, as you are very knowledgeable and honest. Keep it up!
That microphone certainly isn't lmao I got the 5x today mainly after going on reddit and hearing that some steel series employees recommended the 5 over the 7 because of the newer chip in them which is what Joe explained, and with the app the 5 wins all day bro, I mean unless you care about simultaneous Bluetooth that much 🤷 that's basically the only advantage but the quick switch is pretty damn quick on the 5 and calls comes straight through I believe even if I'm on 2.4 and that's all I need
Interesting you mention Clamp Force. I got the Nova 7x for my daughter and she immediately complained that it wasn't tight enough. When she uses the wireless sound from the XBox combined with Bluetooth audio, she ends up looking down at her phone regularly... the headset would just slide down her head. The old Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen2 however sits super tight. The Nova 7x's sound is however much more detailed when compared to the TB headset, I find.
@@LennartC I have and it has helped at little. We also adjusted the cups but it's still a bit of an issue unfortunately... I have used them also and found them rather pleasant actually, but I would not be using Bluetooth phone audio and gaming audio at the same time. Not sure my brain can handle that...
Love the review! I was hoping you could clarify one thing for me. On the app when i switch the preset to warzone 2 (or what ever I want) does it automatically transer that preset to my playstation when I switch the headset to my playsation?!
Back when I used headsets and only on console, I requested this so much. SS got my respect and looks like this is going to help push for better audio control on the console in the future. Also, couldn't you buy a dongle and save an EQ to it if you really wanted EQ?
Hey Joe, hoping you see this!!! Do the 7X or 5X have a stronger clamping force? I love my 7X’s, but I find myself wanting a little extra. Nothing like the vice grip of Turtle Beach. Just a little more.
I have the 50 dollar steelseries and use a game dac with it I got on mercari for 20 bucks, it's the best headset I have ever had to hear footsteps in game
Joe, just to add a lil to the video, it would be great to see the measurements of the headset with your custom parametric EQ enabled on SquigLink. Especially if this is such a rare feature these days on wireless headsets. It would greatly help comparing this headsets sound profile to other ones in the Database (especially since the default profile does not look the greatest) Cheers! p.s. in the video is the blue measurement at 14:30 into the video your custom parametric EQ?
Given the same price would you pick these over the Beoplay Portals? The sound of the portals keep me coming back. Just not sure if they ironed out the connectivity issues with Xbox.
Hey Gadgetry Tech I’m a big fan and long time viewer, top notch video as always. I’m actually looking at headsets again because I’m a little baffled that my new nova pros are having severe mic issues if I’m not talking into the mic and talking loudly then it cuts out every time I start to talk normal or even barely softer than normal. Customer service is not timely in replying wondering if you have any tips? Or if Mr Gadgetry isn’t able to see this comment does anyone have any suggestions? It happens on discord and I play on Pc and use sonar. I even tried taking the AI noise canceling under mic settings off and tried noise gate and the slider on discord nothing helps it from cutting in and out.
Let me ask this to be sure, would you advice this model for the Ps5? Btw, i own a Astro A50 and amazing headset but also a bit older now. Im curious about other headsets and this one got my attention. Thank you for this information m8. Greetings from a 54 year young hardcore gamer from the Netherlands!
Hey, thanks for the video. Currently using a DT770 but want to return it for something wireless, and have my eye on the Audeze Maxwell. Looking for wireless, great sound quality (and onboard EQ to get something similar to Harman, and so it sounds the same at different PCs for LAN parties), and comfort is also super important. If you were in my position, would you jump to the Maxwell, or buy this Arctis Nova 5 wireless? I like how my 770 Pro X sound but have come to terms that I need wireless. Plus, I think I want to try the suspension headband design. Your input is appreciated! Love the videos and am a new sub.
The maxwell is a very heavy headset comfortable but it does weight significantly more. The Arctis Nova 5 is light and comfortable. The Nova has flat your own custom or a myriad of different games specific EQ's that you can use there phone app to access. Maxwell has just a few common EQ's. It will come down to what you really want you can EQ both to sound the way you like.
At 5:01 "even on the High Bandwidth mode. Which I'll talk about here soon" But it wasn't really addressed. Which I'm guessing you meant the "Extended Range Mode" it has. Also, between the WC FreeZe and the "upgraded" ones are they the same depth. I'm looking to hide elf ears. lol. The stock on my pro wireless touch the end a bit. I'm looking for deeper pads. I know the upgraded are big enough. But the Freeze sound nice. I'm just curious if they are the same side. Or maybe even bigger.
lol I love this channel. Fuck man I started watching headset stuff and audio stuff in general about like three or four months before joe here started really posting stuff basically the steel series 7P was my introduction into gaming headsets then after I got tired of hearing shit audio I switched to audeze because Joe told me to and yea the rest is history but this one dude has taught me libraries worth of information since I found him I can’t believe he isn’t more
Thanks for a very informative video. I'm about to buy my first ever headset and was gunning for Nova 7x. In your opinion due to the app that comes with that Nova 5x is it better?
I spent about two weeks messing around with wireless headets ranging from turtle beach stealth 700 Gen 2 and the razor blackshark v2 pro wireless. I came to the conclusion that wired is better all around. Wireless is just paying for convenience while decreasing mic/audio quality with a drastically increased price. Just stick with wired.
I’ve been using Turtle Beach headsets for a while. Every Turtle Beach headset I’ve used hasn’t lasted more than a year. The Stealth 700 gen2 Max and the Stealth Pro. I’m done with Turtle Beach. Their quality is garbage. And I baby my headsets. So now I’m deciding between these 3. Which one would you say is the better of the 3? Audeze Maxwell Xbox Arctis Nova Pro Xbox (wired) Arctis Nova 5x I’m open to better options. I’ll be using this for Xbox only.
Hi! So which one do you suggest for PS5? The Nova 5, 5P or 5X? Mainly asking about the game to chat mix. I understand that PS5 doesn't support chat mix on any of those, am I correct? But other than that, is there a difference between 5P and 5X? Is it better to get the 5X to have compatibility with more devices, or the 5X will have some disadvantages over the 5P for PS5? Thank you.
The x for xbox ( it has chat/game valoume rocker too ) and p for playstation as the colors suggest , the 5x has the xbox option so ps pc and xbox , the P is only pc and playstation so not xbox The valoume rocker even though dosent have it(except x version) (I have a arctic 7+ on my pc and the valoume rocker does not work on playstation unless it's playstation headset (playstationbeing playstation) which I hate it just overpriced bs ( I got the P5 anyway , I'm sure I can make it somehow work with the app on pc and on my phone if not still not a big loss becouse ps elite although it has the valoume rocker is but is dogshit
As per your recommendation, I went with Arctis Nova 7 from last couple of months, and am decently satisfied with it for fps/cs2 gaming. Can you please suggest an IEM which can replace Nova 7? Using full sized headphones in summer is quite a challenge.
Bro, can you update your links and include the Nova 5X Amazon one? I subscribed and wanted to support your work wherever. These are the reviews we need.
If I were to use your fps eq presets what audio profile should I use on my Xbox series s in warzone? Headphone bass boost? There are like 8 of them and I’m worried they will affect the overall eq you set up

Hi, just got the 5s after your recommendation (5X isn't available in my region). Are you planning to add Mic Tuning on Sonar for this the way you did for the Nova 7s? Thanks!
@A1finesse turtle beach sounds better than SS in my opinion, I would wait and see if you like them. I got the stealth pro and sent my ss 7x back, only reason I pre-ordered the atlas air is because they are wireless open backs. Oh I also would have spent a little more if you can for the 600 v3, they should be louder and better features. Also with TB you get an app to mess with EQ so don't feel like you are missing out not going with SS.

Just ordered this after your review, will be here tomorrow cant wait to try out my first ever decent wireless headset ! Thank you incredible review quality
can you change your led brightness to medium or low and mute your headset? And reply if you hear any buzzing sound in the right ear please?
@@Adam-rd4is hey i dont believe i hear any buzzing, maybe rarely some hissing but thats because of the sidetone and only when there is 0 sound in the headset and around me, for the led brightness i believe u can change it yes i ll have to check when im back home on my pc
@@Souneed that’s a common issue, whenever you change your brightness to low or medium, the headset will buzz in the right ear if you press the mute button. I’m just wondering how frequent is this problem
@@Adam-rd4is ah ok i never had it nor do i remember changing brightness coz idc about the led i dont mute that often
@@Souneed just a scientific experiment, do you have that issue? If you can try it out I'd appreciate that
The 60h battery is only if you use Bluetooth as an fyi. I think alot of reviewers are not mentioning this
Not really, they kind of crapped on our faces and said "heres the app you been asking for, but you gotta buy this specific headset just to use it" they could have made this headset and also implemented the nova7s but instead they decided to be greedy.
I've got one coming tomorrow, I can't wait to try it out.
Awesome! I hope you like it!
Turtle beach gen 3 or steel series 5p
Love my Nova 7 and it’s been 2 years. The 5 is compelling for its price point. 👍🏼
Nice review! It would be better if you included sound comparisons with other headsets in-game
Great review and very in depth as always. I use your sonar settings on my nova pro wireless. The fact that they didn’t include an app for the nova pros is really disappointing. They don’t cover shipping cost for warranty issues, and their customer service is abysmal.
Thank you very much, once again, for such an extensive and detailed review!
Otherwise i will be returning these and sticking with my 5 pairs of wired that work just fine. Thank you for the rime and effort in these reviews by the way!
Hey I’m a big fan of your channel you do amazing reviews and give so much info for us customers. I’d like to see if you would be willing to do EQ for games like Rainbow Six Siege due to that games more unique audio. Hope you see this!
Joe long time watcher. I just noticed the new shirt! Looks good.
Thanks haha! I had to eventually make some :)
Thanks for the in depth review! Still got my old trusty RIG 800 for my Xbox but this really seems to be a contender to change that.. Especially since the last season i have massive distortion problems with audio in CoD MP and Warzone, the EQ might help at least a little bit
Man, those 800s are SO comfortable though. One of the best
RIG makes some good headphones!
I just bought the Nova 7x yesterday but I’m a console gamer primarily. Should I return it and Get the 5x?
Return them and get anything other than steel series.
@airborne11b50 why do people always comment hate underneath a question but without any usefull alternative
What did you do?
Great review! The mic still sounds tinny in comparison to something like the Corsair Virtuoso.
Love the video and channel. Do Hunt Showdown EQ please.
Keep it up!
I play on PC so I'm sticking with the nova 7, best headset ever
That microphone certainly isn't lmao I got the 5x today mainly after going on reddit and hearing that some steel series employees recommended the 5 over the 7 because of the newer chip in them which is what Joe explained, and with the app the 5 wins all day bro, I mean unless you care about simultaneous Bluetooth that much 🤷 that's basically the only advantage but the quick switch is pretty damn quick on the 5 and calls comes straight through I believe even if I'm on 2.4 and that's all I need
Do you have a settings for steelseries nova 5 for warzone season 5 Xbox console
Cool headset. I got the nova pro and they’re amazing
Have you tried adjusting the size/position of the headband?
@@LennartC I have and it has helped at little. We also adjusted the cups but it's still a bit of an issue unfortunately...
I have used them also and found them rather pleasant actually, but I would not be using Bluetooth phone audio and gaming audio at the same time. Not sure my brain can handle that...
Great vid, will WC Cooling Earpads and Headbands work on this headset too?
Love the review! I was hoping you could clarify one thing for me. On the app when i switch the preset to warzone 2 (or what ever I want) does it automatically transer that preset to my playstation when I switch the headset to my playsation?!
Nova 4 wireless is only $70 😮 new on ebay now. Something to consider imo.
Great video! Just picked up a pair and it looks like they added two bands. What should they be set to? Thank you!
Back when I used headsets and only on console, I requested this so much. SS got my respect and looks like this is going to help push for better audio control on the console in the future. Also, couldn't you buy a dongle and save an EQ to it if you really wanted EQ?
The EQ U saved from GG(in PC) is saved to Ur phone. So U can access it anywhere any time on BT or 2.4G.
I got that little adapter for my pc, since there's no USB-C on the front, looks great!
What’s the adapter called?
One question the Nova 5X supports the 3D Audio on PS5? Sounds the same even the 5X is made for XBOX?
Joe, just to add a lil to the video, it would be great to see the measurements of the headset with your custom parametric EQ enabled on SquigLink. Especially if this is such a rare feature these days on wireless headsets. It would greatly help comparing this headsets sound profile to other ones in the Database (especially since the default profile does not look the greatest)
Cheers!
p.s. in the video is the blue measurement at 14:30 into the video your custom parametric EQ?
I've been with steelseris for about 5 years now
Given the same price would you pick these over the Beoplay Portals?
Hi what's the best headset for rainbow six siege for under £350.
Love the channel
My thought is this... If you're okay with the all plastic build, and do not need simultaneous EQ, then the 5X is an easy choice. Both are good though
Great review, but still so difficult. 7P vs 5P. To use with PC and/or PS5.
You are not saying anything that isn’t already known everyone knows this. This isn’t some new kind of find 😂
Audeze Maxwell Xbox
Arctis Nova Pro Xbox (wired)
Arctis Nova 5x
I’m open to better options. I’ll be using this for Xbox only.
What Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 in-game audio settings are you using for this headset please.
Thank you.
The x for xbox ( it has chat/game valoume rocker too ) and p for playstation as the colors suggest , the 5x has the xbox option so ps pc and xbox , the P is only pc and playstation so not xbox
The valoume rocker even though dosent have it(except x version) (I have a arctic 7+ on my pc and the valoume rocker does not work on playstation unless it's playstation headset (playstationbeing playstation) which I hate it just overpriced bs ( I got the P5 anyway , I'm sure I can make it somehow work with the app on pc and on my phone if not still not a big loss becouse ps elite although it has the valoume rocker is but is dogshit
The battry life and mic are just better by like 100 miles from elite pulse
Any news on expanding the mobile app to other headsets? The 7 deserves this
As per your recommendation, I went with Arctis Nova 7 from last couple of months, and am decently satisfied with it for fps/cs2 gaming. Can you please suggest an IEM which can replace Nova 7?
Using full sized headphones in summer is quite a challenge.
Hold off for a few weeks if you can, as some new stuff is coming. Right now I like the SIMGOT EM6L for gaming
the 5p doesnt have any additional functionality for ps5? so just buy the 5x no matter what? thanks!
Does the 5X support game-to-chat mix for PS5? I don’t think you specifically addressed this.
SONY have disabled the game-to-chat functionality, you have to use the mixer on the PS5 dashboard.
Bro, can you update your links and include the Nova 5X Amazon one? I subscribed and wanted to support your work wherever. These are the reviews we need.
I couldn’t find it on Amazon. Did they list it there?
@@GadgetryTech yes, it’s up. :)
If I were to use your fps eq presets what audio profile should I use on my Xbox series s in warzone? Headphone bass boost? There are like 8 of them and I’m worried they will affect the overall eq you set up
Hi joe thank you for the review but I just picked up the steel series nova pro wireless the white edition for my ps5 and joe there the best sounding headphones I've ever had and the day you get a ton of presets and you have the swappable battery and the comfort is second to none I've had every headphones on the planet astro a50x audeze maxwell pulse elite turtle beach stealth pro jbl quantum 910p razer barracuda pro and I found the best headphones on the market joe and there the steel series nova pro wireless I'm going to stick with the flag ship but these would be good for somebody that's on a budget I'm going to pass on these but thank you stay safe and happy gaming to all
Do you think the Nova 5p is a better purchase than the ps5 pulse 3d or elite? Exclusively for ps5
Any chance we could see an update for the nova pro wireless which brings this to it or more sonar for consoles?
Hi!
Just bought it for my Xbox X series.
Do you recommend any EQ for Warzone?
Thanks!
Hi, just got the 5s after your recommendation (5X isn't available in my region). Are you planning to add Mic Tuning on Sonar for this the way you did for the Nova 7s? Thanks!
The 5x is meant for Xbox and most other devices you don’t need it if you don’t have one
Well hopefully the Turtle Beach Atlas Air wireless open back is good, I pre-ordered them!
I pre ordered the new stealth 500s but thinking of just picking these up
@A1finesse turtle beach sounds better than SS in my opinion, I would wait and see if you like them.
I cannot wait to talk about it!! Next week :)
@@GadgetryTech I wanna talk about it now! But I know you can't boo
600 gen 3 too low on volume
I am really torn between this and the nova pro is there a huge difference in quality or is this better?
If I'm on PS5, would you recommend this over the Arctis Nova 7P?
I'm loving the new elites. I hated the 7ps mostly because the mic was absolutely awful for the cost of the headset.
Besides your music and fps custom eq, do you have one for more general gaming? 🙏
