This is so heartbreaking. Since seladon is the heir of All-Maudra, she was basically brainwashed that the skeksis are gods. Even when a lot of people rebelled, it was hard for her because she was too deep in the system, and believing the skeksis are bad means that everything she believed in was a complete lie. Here she was desperate for peace so she asked the skeksis to spare the gelflings, then those who still obey, then offered the volunteers, until the last she asked them to at least spare her sisters, tavra and brea. Seladon is the most compelling character in the show and i love her so much!
The funny thing is that it would've actually been better for the Skeksis too. Seladon was offering them a way to maintain control and harvest just enough gelflings to stop them from decaying, as opposed to just harvesting them all, which led them to where they were at the beginning of the movie. But the Emperor wouldn't go along with that because he's just that much of an asshole.
Yes, after quelling the court rebellion she's trying to appease them. But every concession just makes them more autocratic. In some ways the way she coveted power over the clans was understandable as her mother taught her the traditions, expected her to be responsible, and look out for the more feckless Brea , who just happened to find the truth because she was indulged enough to question. Seladon was trying to make the tough decisions and assume the power she'd been brought up to accede to, as the alternative war with the immortal skeksis was unthinkable.
The Scientist SkekSis made his punishment in the movie where Kira calls the Animals >:( and After the Crystal gets heal, the Garthim return as Grunak and Arathim :)

This scene annoyed me, she was offering a great deal to the emperor and he continued to refuse it. I wish Skeksil was in the room during this encounter because he may have been able to convince the other Skeksis to listen to her.
Given how far gone they are and the fact that Chamberlain even tried to get them to listen to reason at dinner only for him to be laughed at, I highly doubt it.

If the skeksis were smart they would have used Seladon who was more than willing to sacrifice her own kind to them. If they could have kept their appetite under control and only taken so many Gelflings are tributes for essence over time and allowing a proper breeding population to occur, theyd have had a never ending supply of essence, hell they could have fed the essence to Seladon herself to keep her young and strong so that they never lost their perfect gelfling queen who was oh too willing to accept their dark true nature and still worship them.
I kind of think that Emperor SkekSo repeatedly saying "No" should be a meme. XD
