    One of the best, ever. Everyone forgets about the great drummer Jim Keltner.

      Keltner was asked to become an "official" Wilbury. He declined. They gave him a Wilbury name anyway.

    Icons every one of them! Great song. Just think of the talent that was present there. Their song “End of the Line” pulls on the heart strings as it is dedicated to Roy Orbison who had passed away. Great request!

    2 British legends, 3 American legends, THE best supergroup of all time, it's not even close. Peace to Roy, George, and Tom, all gone way too soon.

    • @ahjaanhugh
      @ahjaanhugh 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think of them as a group of friends. Jeff offered to help George out on a side B of an EP over dinner, Roy ask to tag along, they had to stop by Tom's to pick up a guitar and they ended up a Dylan's because he had a studio in his house. The rest is history because the record executives said the song was too good to be a side B.

    The Traveling Wilburys is a rock supergroup from 1988 made up of Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, & Jeff Lynne. (Jim Keltner joined them & is one of the greatest session drummers). They had a lot of great songs such as "End Of The Line", "Heading For The Light", "Inside Out", "Tweeter & The Monkey Man", "Dirty World", "Last Night", "She's My Baby", "Rattled", "Nobody's Child", "Congratulations" etc. Sadly only 2 guys are now left from this group (Bob Dylan & Jeff Lynne).

  • @oldarpanet
    @oldarpanet 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    IIRC one of the Wilburys was being interviewed and when asked about they're being a "supergroup" replied something along the line of "Odd to think of five rhythm guitarists as a "supergroup."

  • @brianmccullough5764
    @brianmccullough5764 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

    They had a whole back story. They were the five sons of Charlie Wilbury by five different mothers. 😁
    Volume I gives them each a solo vocal, and there are extraordinary diets, like Last Night with Petty and Orbison.

    That unmistakable voice of Roy Orbison. First 45 inch single I ever owned was ‘Penny Arcade’ RIP Roy! 😔❤️ Loved the Travelling Wilburys. Nice reaction, guys! 👍❤️🇦🇺 10/10

  • @chrismaverick9828

    Every account of the group, including from themselves, was that egos were virtually non-existent. The way they came together, "who is one person you'd like to play with" created a natural backstop to ego as they had all worked with big names for years and knew how they all were. Orbison was the real one that they all looked up to, stopping whatever they were doing to listen to his recording sessions, basking in his incredible voice. They were all in it for the music.
    By far the greatest lineup of a group one could imagine.

  • @firefighterchick

    Thanks guys!😊
    They had to be the superist of Super Groups.
    They were some of best on either side of the pond.
    I wasn't sure if you two had heard them before.
    If one of you had my guess was going to be BP2.
    I wasn't sure which one to request because pretty much all of them on both albums were great.
    It revitalized Roy Orbison's career which was sadly so short-lived.
    It seems like there was very little egos which these phenom artists.
    They look like in all the videos like they had a great time performing together.
    Different songs were published to each of the ones who had their own record label but the writing credits were shared among them.
    In different songs each one took the lead as well.

    An original written by all the guys as they recorded the album. The idea for it was a shipping box with the words "Handle With Care" written on it sitting in the studio. All but Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne have passed away. Musical legends all.

      @firefighterchick 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@barryanderson3910 agree 💯.
      I think you'll just about love both albums.
      It's bittersweet though since Roy died so soon after and now Tom and George too.
      In the video of the song End of the Line he had already passed.
      He sings in the song but in the video it's just a chair with his guitar and his photo.

      @@firefighterchickIn my case, I knew of the group back then (when I was younger), but never listened to them. Of course, I didn't have access to everything via the internet back then, either. I probably was reminded of the group via a reaction video several years ago, and have since taken my time, listening to their stuff little by little over time, so I can enjoy it. The internet, TH-cam, and reaction videos - all of these help me find and enjoy stuff I've missed in my life. Younger folks will never understand how limited that access was to these things back in the day.

    Otis Wilbury (Lynne), Lefty Wilbury (Orbison), Charlie T. Wilbury Jr. (Petty), Lucky Wilbury (Dylan), Nelson Wilbury (George Harrison). The band members adopted tongue-in-cheek pseudonyms as half-brothers from the fictional Wilbury family of travelling musicians. Vol. 1 was a critical and commercial success, helping to revitalise Dylan's and Petty's careers. In 1990, the album won the Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group. BP1 they were HUGE here in the states. And the Album went platinum in the UK and US as well. Only thing that stopped them was the death of Orbison. Hope you both are well and have a great weekend. Enjoy your reaction as always!

    Older "supergroup" the 1956 Million Dollar Quartet. Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash. Recorded at Sun Records in Memphis. Carl was recording a album, Lewis was on Piano. Cash was just there listening, Elvis just happened to stop by. They started jamming together . Sam Phillips the head of Sun started recording at some point and wound up with over a hour of stuff

(the song where Roy is most featured is "Not alone anymore) appreciate your listen... (p.s. credit to drummer Jim Keltner.. who was offered a credit/position as a "Wilbury" but declined.. still, he is integral to the group)

    Jeff Lynne produced and performed on solo albums for each member with the Wilbury sound. Mystery Girl for Orbison, Full Moon Fever for Petty, Armchair Theater for himself. Return of Dark Horse for Harrison explored this sound previous to Vol. 1. Dylan's solo album was used for Vol. 3 due to contract obligation to finish the album. After Orbison's death, Del Shannon meant to fill his shoes but he died as well. Lynne had completed Del Shannon's solo album Rock On! Note, Del Shannon and his signature song was referenced in both Vol 1 and Full Moon Fever. The Wilbury's produced singles of Del Shannon songs as tributes. Vol. 2 was the Wilbury album with Del Shannon that was never recorded. These other albums are of interest to Wilbury fans because they feature the Wilbury sound. All of them were friends and contributed to each other's albums as writers or performers, so various albums have Wilbury collaborations with that rockabilly type sound.

      As far as I've read in interviews with the rest of the band they never intended to replace Roy Orbison.
      The press at the time speculated that they might ask Del Shannon or Roger McGuinn but they planned on just being a quartet girl on the second album.

      Easily the most charismatic, expressive and soulful voice of the group. But then again, there are some people (thankfully I don't know any of them) who'd rate the voices of Mariah Carey and Adele over the likes of Billie Holiday and Janis Joplin.
