I think he's badmouthing his brother because he doesn't want to admit he misses him, and he's probably also trying to dull the sting, not only of his death but also the fact Viserys would probably never forgive him for this.

I also think its frustration of rejection too. For so long he'd always been talked badly about behind his back. I think he's always wanted to be accepted and respected by those around him, but they always saw him as an impulsive screw up. When he does something commendable and helpful, he always manages to do something negative as well which overshadows his accomplishments. He stood in the shadow of his brother sound judgements for so long while being regarded as the screw-up, and I think all he wanted was for people to commend him for his accomplishments.... that's why he forced his ways through situations more than he needed to and always took on the hardest, most difficult, and controversial challenges.
Then with this scene.... he did it again. He had a good plan to get recognized and seen as a great asset only for it to go all wrong and once again be branded with his mistakes. However, he at the same time refuses to believe that all these things in his past were mistakes because he wants to amount to be remembered to be great like his brother. However, Rhaynera not only threw his mistakes in his face... but also the past stigmas with his brother.....

"HE WAS NOT ADRAID OF YOU DAEMON! He could not trust YOU" it was very satisfying to say the least when she tells him this but this is the very reason Otto Hightower was able to take advantage of Viserys for so many years. Otto is an opportunist by all means. Daemon loved his brother no doubt and wanted his love and he wanted to rule with Viserys. He wanted to be his hand of the king. Daemon expected everything from Viserys yet he never gave him anything. Daemon was just not trustworthy. Rhaenyra trusted him and Daemon blew that into the worst possible thing he could do.

    • @kailanerman5090
      @kailanerman5090 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Otto didn't need to twist Viserys' perception much to know what was plain in front of him.
Sure, Otto was an opportunist, but he's not done anything another Lord wouldn't have. He led the Kingdom's while V played with legos. The simple fact is that Otto knew what Viserys tried to ignore until the "king for a day" incident.
Otto knew Daemon would have been a terrible king.
Did he want Rhaenyra as heir, yeah, because the only other option was Daemon.
The Law of succession was set the moment King Viserys was crowned, so Otto likely assumed that if Viserys didn't plan on remarriage or having a son, then he likely would have supported Rhaenyra to the end. But then he remarried, had not one, but three sons. While Rhaenyra went and had 3 obvious bastards and THEN married Daemon... meaning he'd be King Consourt.
Which as we've seen... he would have been just as dangerous as Consourt as he would have been as King. People would have looked to him even if Rhaenyra was Queen. Everyone would look to "the man" in this situation. Because let's face it... Westros is still in the Dark Ages, and men have always been seen as "higher" than women. So a King Consourt would have just been treated as the King.
It also doesn't help that he's also close to 20-30 years older, so people would assume he's the wiser and better ruler.
Rhaenyra set the stage for a troubled rule as soon as her brothers were born and she had bastards.
Peace went out the door when Rhaenyra had bastards at the same time as her true born brothers were. But war was guaranteed when she married Daemon...

I think a lot of people miss the fact that court intrigue (whether in fantasy worlds or in real life) is entertaining to watch, but there's never a right side, it's about power/opportunism. Some people might go on about legitimacy of who is the rightful heir, but in irl the 100 years war or the war that occurred because others would not recognize maria theresa's claim to the HRE's throne because she was a woman (even when all of those involved agreed that her ascendancy was legitimate before her father's death, they still waged war because it was opportune), it's all about power grabs and who cares about the justification. I guess people just enjoy picking sides, even though just watching the lunacy unfold wihtout picking a side is entertaining enough.

The book Fire & Blood is not canon as it is Maester's historical recollection of the events that happened. It is mired with inaccuracies and conflicting information and it is designed to mirror the inaccurate historical treaties of ancient and medieval historians. The fact that the information is presented from the viewpoint of multiple different conflicting sources is supposed to illustrate that the events that happened aren't supposed to taken at face value.

Nope. There are always consequences. Rhaenyra lost the support of the houses she needed because of this. Rhaenyra tried to sue for peace, and even the Greens were hesitant to escalate...before this.
War has never been about "anything goes." There has to be strategy, and even more so, PR. Losing valuable allies because someone like Daemon wanted their enemy to suffer, without even thinking of all of the possible ways it could have gone wrong (and did) might have just cost them the war.

@@kimkai.823 Alys wasn’t a prize of war. You’re acting like Daemon is a saint.

Viserys is mistake was not naming a male heir. Daemon and Aegon were more qualified to lead then Rhaenyra.

it's crazy how this dude has so many fans, he really borders on psychopathy, the only somewhat good character is Rhaenyra, somewhat, because Viserys was her role model, like Daemond is an absolute narcissist, it's the same as defending Daniel Day Lewis' character in There Will Be Blood, both intriguing protagonists but both absolutely insane and not admirable, but people do, it's crazy to me

He's more a sociopath than a psychopath otherwise he would killed his brother and taken his throne at some point. He had a dragon. His brother did not. Yet he loved him enough not to do that and at least atempt to protect him from his small council. I think the majority of Black fans no he's a monster of sorts but he does have limits and doesn't kill indiscriminately. Literally a dragon in human form. Much like the dragon he rides he doesn't kill for killings sake but only when slighted or provoked. It certainly doesn't make him very human but it doesn't make him evil either.

@@Not-Ap he literally murdered his wife in cold blood so he could get together with an underage Rhaenyra, who's his niece, yeah different times and shlt but cmon now, he's a villain but yall want to romanticize him, I could go on, having Heleanas son killed, turning on his allies when he sees fit, he's a villain through and through, like I said, it's an interesting character but I just don't get how you could admire him, and many do, and he knew he couldn't just kill Viserys, he would be exiled, you just can't go and kill the King and expect to get away with it and be named King afterwards as he wasn't the only one with a dragon, his best bet was staying somewhat loyal
